“The best of the Finger Lakes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

We visited six wineries during our stay at Finger Lakes, and Dr. Frank's was the best of them. We were amazed that the tasting was free, as the pours were generous and the quality of the wines excellent. Our server was very knowledgable about the wines. A number of bottles left with us, and we would definitely return.

“Great wines, great tasting, reasonably priced”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

We've been to Dr. Frank before, and we return, in part because of some of the more unique wine offerings. This visit we had to wait to do the tasting, mainly because they were quite busy. The staff apologized and worked to create extra space for us and a few others who had arrived about the same time.

Our tasting hostess was excellent, really explaining the wines and some of the nuances of wine making (such as the influence of the soil in the tastes in the grapes), but doing so in a less than technical way.

The wines themselves are excellent. The Dr. Frank label covers estate wines; the Salmon Run label, a bit cheaper, uses grapes from other growers. Either way, the wines are reasonably priced for the quality of the wine.

Dr. Frank has several more unique wine offerings, including a couple of Russian grapes and a wine from Austria. More than the usual Chardonnay - Riesling - Merlot fare, though they have those too!

By the way, more and more wineries have a tasting fee - Dr. Frank does not.

“Disappointing experience.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

After several trips to the Finger Lakes, I was looking forward to Dr Frank's. I was disappointed with my visit there. The server seemed very rushed and didn't seem to take the time to talk to us. I believe there may have been" club members" at the other end of the bar who he was focussing on. Had the server been more friendly or personable, I would have enjoyed it more and probably bought some wine. Not sure I will go back.

“Great Riesling”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

We really enjoyed the tasting at this location. We tried 6 or so wines and there was no charge. The semi dry Riesling is wonderful and we enjoyed the view!

“A terrific tasting experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

We found the wines...Rieslings, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, and Sparkling Rose...delightful. New York State wines are excellent, and Dr. Frank's are among the best. There is no charge for tastings here, and we sampled 8 or so wines. The tasting guide, Coleen, was most knowledgeable and personable as we tasted, discussed, and tasted. She offered us tastings of several Reserve wines, perhaps because she saw, correctly, that we were prospects for their wine club. All-in-all we had a delightful time, learned a lot, and bought more than a case of our favorites.

The views from the tasting veranda over the vineyards to Keuka Lake and the mountainous hills beyond are glorious. Dr. Frank's cellars, production buildings, and tasting room are all straightforward, with none of the oversize, bombastic architecture that some of the wineries had.
