Reviewed 7 October 2013

We stayed here two nights in October 2013 and our experience was absolutely amazing! Pat and Brenda have an excellent place here-- Brenda is the sweetest woman and made us feel right at home! They were very friendly and easy to work with. Our room was cute, comfortable and clean, and everything we needed was provided. They even had a bonfire at night, with chairs looking out over the lake. The location is great, right along the main road and close to lots of wineries. We will definitely be back again and will recommend The Savannah House Inn to everyone!

5 Stars is not high enough. We were a group of 16 family members (ages 11 to 80 years old) divided into 7 units. Our rooms were exceptional. They were immaculately clean and decorated like I have never seen before, including a neat little simulated fireplace. We have never seen motels/hotels decorated so really homey, even 5 star places. The owners/managers (Pat and Brenda) really made us feel welcome and at home. They provided us with a place on the lawn for a 27 foot travel trailer that we use as a "chuck wagon" to cook and serve family breakfasts and dinners, which are a highlight of our time together as a family. Brenda had several tables for us already decorated with candles and table cloths, close to a large fire pit and charcoal grill for our use.(I might add that they also provided the wood and charcoal). The view from this setting was beautiful which included lake Seneca and the surrounding country side. Do we collectively recommend Savannah House.......ABSOLUTELY. Will we come back.......my group are already asking me what is the date for next year, they can't wait.

This was one of the most wonderful groups to ever stay with us. Everyone was great to deal with, and very appreciative of whatever we could do for them. They also contributed to the enjoyment of our other guests each evening. There stay was longer than most, which gave us the opportunity to get to know them much better. When they departed, they left quite a void - much like seeing family leave. We are looking forward to their return next fall. Thank you for a wonderful review.

We stayed in early September. The published photos of the refurbished rooms do them justice. It's an old property that Pat and Brenda have worked hard to update. There are windows at the front (toward the main road) and back toward Seneca Lake. There are lots of comfy chairs in which to relax and enjoy the view and the wine purchased that day. There was a small fridge and a microwave in the room.

The owners were, as other reviewers mention, very helpful. We arrived with our bicycles and Pat recommended a route around Lake Keuka, starting in Hammondsport, rather than the very busy US 14, even though it's advertised as a cycling route. He even printed a downloaded map for us He steered us to the two wineries near his property; they were the last wineries we visited in the area, and we enjoyed our tastings there far more than any of the others on Lake Seneca. . Brenda was equally friendly and helpful, loaning us a couple of wine glasses. Even though the inn is on the main route between Watkins Glen and Geneva, it was quite quiet through the night; only the odd truck making its way up the grade. The bed was comfortable, and we were very glad that the cooling unit had not yet been replaced with the heater, as th e daytime temperature exceeded 90 degrees F.

What makes this just an "average" in our estimation? 1. Location. We had a significant drive to anywhere. If you don't want to drive 10 minutes for breakfast, you might want to bring along some muffins and fruit. 2. Price. I would not have wanted to pay full price for this; the "third night free" on a mid-week special made it acceptable. The area, generally seems to be over-priced. 3. It's still an inn, not a B&B, even though the description and some reviews refer to the feel of a B&B.

This is an honest review despite the lower rating. We enjoyed having these guests stay with us. They were very enthused about the area and actively sought to enjoy what it has to offer. Judging from their final comments, cost was a major concern. Our rates happen to be somewhere in the middle for the area, which is reasonable, and many guests take advantage of our midweek special as these guests did - the end result being that for 3 days, the rate is substantially lower than the competition. Midweek is also a great time to visit because there are fewer people on the Wine Trail, and guests get a lot more attention at the places they visit. We explain to people that this is a motel with rooms that are designed and 'feel' like B&B type rooms - not the normal motel linens and decorations. At the same time they offer privacy with private entrances and private baths - the best of both worlds. We provide complementary fresh ground gourmet coffee and tea each morning, and many who want breakfast go to a nearby [8 minutes] diner, where cost is about $6 or $7 a person. Our guests rave about this diner - probably the best in the Finger Lakes. One of the attractions to this area is that it is a low cost of living area. There are a few places that are "expensive", but they are a small minority. As for traveling distances, one of the most common comments by our guests is that they chose us because we are so centrally located to the wineries, especially the best wineries, and the various towns and attractions they wish to explore. In order to help our guests save money, we provide a complementary Wine Trail Card - good for free wine tastings and discounts on wine and other purchases. On average, our guests save about $50 - $100/day. We appreciate this guest's comments.

We booked the wildflower ,but not anything that we expected! The TRAILER, was clean well equipped kitchen. That was about it, they didn't say it sits behind a 200 yr old abandoned home with broken windows. The trailer had over grown brushes , rotted railing , the sun porch light disconnected ,so no light to see to get into Trailer. Which by the way has a lean to it ! The kitchen had burned out lights and ants in the sink. The main bedroom was decorated nicely ,but the mattress was old and sunk in the middle. The dehumidifier was vented out the wall ,which you could see outside thru the cut out. The bedroom door did not close because it was split. The second bedroom had a double bed that was a mattress on a spring that fell in the center . Only way to get in was climb on bed . Not suitable for even kids. The bathroom was clean but old. The shower head had rust on it , and someone's used shower gel hanging , the shower door had rust on it and could use some clean caulk. The exterior doors are not secure, one push and you could easily push in. So after a sleepless night we packed up and found somewhere else to stay. When calling the owner they said sorry, but NEVER offered to refund any part of our $520. Think twice if you want to stay here !

This guest's comments came as a bit of a surprise. To begin with, at the time of reservation he was advised that the cottage shared a large property with our 200 yr old historic mansion, which is also on the National Historic Register, and a home we plan to restore and live in. Recently a tornado touched down about 100yds from this home and caused a couple of windows to break. Of 52 windows, 2 had a few panes broken. People routinely ask if we will sell the house, or they assk for tours. The cottage sits on a magnificent property overlooking the lake, with much privacy and beauty. It was completely redone and updated 2 years ago. It has a modern eat in kitchen with new appliances - and a modern full bath. All the doors lock and have new door locks. When they are closed and locked, they do not open. There are quite a few photos of the cottage, in and out, including the master bedroom and the bathroom. This cottage has rented nearly every week the past 2 years, and rountinely receives rave reviews - written and oral. A couple of guests have felt otherwise, and it was obvious that this was not their type of place. If there are some concerns in the bath, we will gladly address them. We agree that one large shrub by the sun porch needs to be trimmed a bit. It has been allowed to grow to a point that it provides shade from the sun on the south side in summer, and privacy year around.

I read lots of reviews before booking our rooms. The Savannah House was a wonderful choice. Don't let the outside motel look fool you. When you see the lovely rooms, slip into the comfy bed or dry off on the incredibly soft towels you will be so happy you chose to stay here. The outside property has such a warm homey feel, I loved all the special touches that Brenda added throughout the property. We had a bonfire each night when we got back to the house and each room had a welcoming candle glowing out front. The location made getting around very convenient. We drove the track at Watkins Glen in our C5 Vette, went riding at the Painted Bar stables, ate at several local spots Pat recommended and tasted at several vineyards. What a great three days!

Having at one time lived near where our guests are from, we were very pleased to have guests from that area - and what great guests they were. We appreciate your comments - especially sharing with others the places and things you enjoyed. Very helpful to others considering the area in the future. Thanks for taking the time to write. We were heading to the Finger Lakes area for our son's wedding and decided to spend the week following the event winding down with friends... after looking at quite a few rentals, we decided on the Seneca St cottage. From initial contact to arrival, Pat responded to all queries promptly. As for the cottage, I did read several reviews here on TA... from good to bad... from our perspective, the cottage was very nice. Keep in mind that it is a rental cottage, it's not a Hilton or W hotel... go in with the correct expectations (like we did) and you will certainly enjoy the stay. The cottage was clean, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the view was awesome. The central location made it very easy to hit the wineries - there are several in the area. There is a Navy operation right next door, with activity early in the morning (7am - 8am) when they would head out to their facility on the lake and then again late afternoon when they returned. This wasn't a problem for us as we were usually up then anyways (my wife and I had the bedroom on the side of the house facing the facility).

If you don't need luxury... and you're looking for a relaxing stay on Seneca Lake, I would not hesitate to recommend the Seneca St cottage... for the 4 of us it was just what we needed.

In the future, any time we are planning to rent on Seneca Lake we will certainly look at one of Pat's rentals before any others.

We appreciate the depth of your review. It was also nice to have guests from another 'hometown' of ours. We do our best to maintain our cottages and motel at a high level, and it's heartening to read your review. Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to more visits in the future.

My girlfriend decided to take me to Seneca Lake for my birthday, over labor day weekend. We rented the suite from Friday-Monday. The Savannah house exemplifies the beauty of the Finger Lakes.

The suite is amazing. There is a whirlpool tub and a big bathroom. The bedroom area features a tv and comfortable bed. We felt like we were sleeping in our memory foam bed at home.We loved the kitchen area, because we were able to eat breakfast every day before we went exploring.

We really enjoyed sitting outside on the swing overlooking the lake, and the bonfires every night were a great way to unwind.

The best part about this place, are the two amazing people who made this place so wonderful. Pat and Brenda are special people who go out of their way to make sure their guests are enjoying their stay. If you need anything, just ask them. Getting to know them through our stay there, it is obvious that The Savannah House Inn is a rare gem.

The location on the lake is perfect. 15 minutes to Watkins Glen, and within 25 minutes of at least 25 wineries.

Overall, if you are looking for a great experience, make sure you stay here!

Room Tip: The suite is worth every penny!
