This is our second visit to Rainbow Cove in the past six years. We came back because we enjoyed our first visit, and our second was just as good.

You do need to understand what this is - a quaint, simple, lakeside motel, kind of retro, but well priced, with a relaxing atmosphere. Rooms are small, with a small bathroom and simple beds, have a TV and cable, but no telephone. They are reasonably clean, but this is a lakeside motel with fishing and boating - a Marriott it is not! Still, there is a special atmosphere here - many of those staying come back year after year, and there is an intentional effort by the owners to create community (a nightly campfire, for example). The motel has an outdoor pool, a dock with seating overlooking the lake, and (my child's favorite) a game room, with ping pong, shuffleboard, and pool. Some of the rooms have a better lake view than others, but the lake is about 50 feet from the building, so all the of the rooms are close to the water.

The motel has a restaurant. The food is OK, not great, but there is little else within 20 miles. We enjoy the wineries in the area, so we have timed our winery visits with one or more meals in the day to take advantage of restaurants in Penn Yan, Watkins Glen, or other towns in the area.

The motel is a good base for exploring wineries in the area, heading down to Watkins Glen for racing or waterfalls, or even to Corning to the glass museum. Wherever, Rainbow Cove is a great place to which to return, especially with a pricing that is more than competative.

What a lovely spot to spend a night or two or three......Rainbow Cove is a quaint lakeside hotel that I have visited for the last 12 years for a weekend getaway......the older section has sidebyside rooms that have been remodeled. They are very simple but adequate and clean. You can sit outside on the chairs provided to visit with other vacationers and have a lovely view of he lake. The other building is newer and again very adequate for a lake stay. The motel is convenient for visits to the local wineries. There is a lovely pool. The restaurant has good hours and very good food and service. There is a large dock with comfortable swings, and chairs to sit and enjoy the lake from. Every night there is a camp fire and you can make samores!! Jeff the owner is very friendly and accommodating.....I would definitely reccomend a stay here!

Found this place by accident. Saw the vacancies sign on the main road and turned down to find motel right by the lake. Lucky to get a room as very popular with people who come year after year.
Nothing fancy - just really friendly. Discovered shuffleboard - new to us. Were going to join folks round campfire but there was a tremendous storm. Would happily go back if ever in same neck of the woods. Great place to just chill out or explore area.

We stumbled upon this place on our way down the western side of Seneca Lake. We were looking for someplace to eat and we saw a sign. Motel and Restaurant.
We took the short detour off of route 14 and pulled into a fantastic funky motel. Very clean and well kept. Also this place sits right on the lake. What a beautiful view. We went in to inquire about a room for the night. The owner (I assume) was very friendly and met us with a smile and our options for rooms. We were so excited as we love funky places like this over the standard hotel options out there. We checked into our room. and we were very pleased. It was extremely clean and in great order!
When we had paid for our room we were told that dinner was being served in the restaurant at 5pm. We took a look at the menu, very basic but we are a no frills couple. We ordered the chicken alfredo and a steak medium rare. The steak was grey when we got it, looked freezer burned, absolutely no flavor. I didn't finish it because it was the grossest steak I have ever had. The alfredo looked like it was out of can and then chicken on top was not desirable looking. All of the items on the salad bar looked like they came out of a can. We were very disappointed. For the quality we got the bill was quite high.

This place is still on a gold mine with the lake right there with a large dock, gazebo and a boat for rent! It was too bad that the food was so bad I hope that they can improve it. I really really liked this place. Such character! I advise anyone to stay here, what a great place, just find another place for dinner (which the closest place seems to be about 20 min away).

We will be back to stay at the motel if we are in the area.

We stayed just one night but would have stayed longer if we had other activities in the region. The Rainbow Cove is a little hard to find but not harder than most places right at the lake shore. It is literally a few feet away from the west side of Seneca Lake, south of Geneva and not far from Penn Yan. There are plenty of wineries very near by, and we visited a couple of them. We also went to a number of very special garden/plant supply centers. There is plenty of countryside activities if you plan ahead. The rolling hills, vineyards and the big beautiful lakes make this a special area to visit.
The amenities at Rainbow Cove are dated but very nicely so. It is beautifully situated on the Lake, with pretty landscaping, a nice restaurant that has just gotten its liquor license (after about 60 years as motel/resort.), a work out room, a game room, a pool (that we did not use since it is still a bit too cool for swimming.) In the evenings, they often light a fire by the lakeside. We could not eat dinner on the night we arrived but we did have breakfast, ordered off the fairly limited menu, which was pretty good.
Total cost was under $100. We would happily stay here again when traveling in the Finger Lakes.

Room Tip: We only stayed in a first floor room, so we do not have any experience with others. There were peop...

This past October was our 5th trip to Rainbow Cove, what a great time! The hosts, Jeff & Helen are always welcoming and warm, the place is tranquil and couldn't be happier as we descend down the winding road knowing we will soon be in a comfortable atmosphere, enjoyable food, great dock for boat & people watching and our home away from home for a few days!

My fiancé & I have stayed in quite a few different rooms, some on the older side, some on the newer two level side. Nothing fancy but for the most comfortable beds, some have fridges and always great staff whether they are cleaning your room, checking you in, serving you breakfast, doesn't matter, they are ALWAYS HELPFUL & FRIENDLY! We were fortunate to find this GEM over a year ago and enjoy our times here. The bonfire is great, you get to meet up with some friendly people (many have been coming here for years!) It is difficult most times to get a room but worth the try!

My fiancé, sister, brother-in-law & I have explored a few of the other lakes because of the easy access from Rainbow Cove. Lots of great wineries, trails, parks and many other interests to see. But spending an afternoon on the dock @ Cove is also relaxing and for a little while, takes your cares away!!

We will be back 2014, already looking forward to it! Another great time, thanks Jeff & Helen!

Room Tip: all rooms are great! one person did mention there is no coffee pot in the rooms, I always bring one...

This hotel is a little hard to rate. The family that runs it are very nice. We had a group go in Oct. of 2013. This is not a fancy hotel. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was new. The TV was not a flat screen but some rooms do have them. Our room had a full size bed and a twin. It needs updating. However , the restaurant was very good, They are located on the water, and have a great dock for sitting by the water. The manager went out of his way to make us all happy. It is a great location for wine trips or for summer by the water. There were no vacancys the weekend we were there, so they are always full. If you are looking for glitz and glammer this is not your hotel, if you are looking for a place to sleep that is clean, ( I think they even ironed the sheets) this is a good stop. I would stay here again. They do book in advance so if you want a room call early or check back for a cancelation. They do have a game room in an old barn that is great for rainy weather, and they do have an ingroud pool. Who needs more.

Room Tip: THey have remodeled some rooms so I would ask for one that has been updated. and has a view of the l...
