was there with boyfriend 12-19 of murch. weather was cool!hot at day and fresh at night. on the territory oh hotel bars, restorane, shop with suvenirs. big territory and good service om the beach. abour room-very good room with conditioner, minibar, big bed. minus only about-leaking shower and sink in the bathroom and towels had the smell of damp.
we had BB-only breakfast. more comfortable coz nearly several restorans and kafes. cool place during the beach-Calipso.
every morning -aquaaerobiks, every evening some shows near with sweemingpool.
turists from different countris-germany, niderlands, czech respublik, swees, englang ets.
else no so far from hotel Pool with crokodiled (+museum of Bakau)-super interesting, and Botanik Garden-boring.
so, im total hotel good for quite rest and relax!!

Room Tip: good choos.

We have just got back from our first trip to Gambia, we stayed for a week and really enjoyed ourselves! The hotel was clean and comfortable, we had a deluxe room overlooking the beach which was very nice. The staff were very friendly, much like all the Gambians we met outside the hotel. We were B&B which I think was the best decision as I can highly recommend the Taj India restaurant, Bella's Hungarian and the Calypso Bar for lunch/dinner, all of which are a short walk from the hotel. There was plenty of choice for breakfast although the tea wasn't the best! We also enjoyed Happy Hour at the pool and beach bars each evening!

I can also highly recommend making use of a local guide from outside the hotel, Muhammed Jaw took us into Bakau to the croc pool, the market and also the fish market (go here at 5/6pm to see all the fishing boats coming back in!), it allows you to see the Gambians day-to-day life. We also did 3 trips through The Gambia Experience, and I would recommend 'waking up with the birds' although it's a 5:15am start, it gives you the chance to see baboons and plenty of birds at dawn.

This is my second review of the Ocean Bay Hotel and what a diference.
Last time i was in block seven facing a horrible wall covered in black mould(see my last review)
This time i was in sea facing block five and boy what a diference thirty steps your on the beach,it is a deluxe room which i recomend every one to have .
Even the staff seemed more alert and a lot smarter (not sure if they had new uniforms) breakfast was good even got coffee which last time as a joke.
The staff are without exception the most friendly you could ever wish to meet, too many to name in person .
I used Gambia experience who are fantastic last time i used Thomas Cook who where ok (just)
So i have already booked again for later in the year .
So my advice upgrade to deluxe,go b/b as the half board or light inclusive is not value for money as there ate plenty of places to eat within a stones throw of the hotel and all very good(see my review of Frank's Hungarian Restuarant)

Room Tip: Ask for block five sea facing ,or any duluxe room ,do not go in block seven

Relaxing and quiet holiday. The hotel is not luxurious but it is clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and keen to ensure you have a good holiday. This is the second time at the hotel and we have loved it both times and intend to return again. We stayed for 7 days, this is not quite long enough to completely unwind and next time we will do 10 days. We hired a guide for an afternoon and had a very interesting insight into the local area and were not bothered by the locas at all. The pool is fabulous as is the beach, the sea however can be a bit rough so care is needed if you intend to swin.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, there are some that look out to sea so you can request this.

just returned from 1 week at the Ocean Bay and had a lovely time. Nice hotel, friendly staff, excellent service from everyone. Rooms cleaned every day and cleaned very well. We stayed bed and breakfast, which was great (plenty of choice), had lunch at the hotel which was also very good and reasonably priced. We ate out every night, which is a must. You must go out and experience these places and the food is excellent. As you walk out the hotel the offical guides are there, we met a lovely man called Bob, he showed us around. You have to go out with them to experience the real 'The Gambia'. The weather was excellent, both pool and the beach area were keep tidy. Try the fruit from the ladies on the beach, number 12 is very nice and friendly (they all are) and also the juice guys. Just remember where you are and you will have a lovely time, already looking to go back later in the year. This was our first time in The Gambia.

Having stayed here before, we were not disappointed to stay here again.
This hotel has the best breakfast in The Gambia, with traditional local teas (mbor mbor), local juices (baobab & wonjo) and local jams (cherry & baobab, pineapple & ginger, etc). Of course there is also the typical cooked breakfast and continental options too.
Their speciality is their lemon grass cocktails, simply delightful and refreshing! The staff are incredibly well presented and polite and extremely helpful without being pushy!
We will definitely go back and stay here again!

Room Tip: Suites are rooms in the 800's, 900's,1000's and 2000's. Room 101 is best for disab...

Location - a few minutes walk from several local restaurants and right on the beach. Taxi ride away from the main tourist 'strip' for night life and more restaurants.

Rooms - not brand new/ five star but clean and confortable.

Grounds - nice setting, trees, flowers and pool area.

Breakfast - excellent choice, eggs made to order, waffles, bacon, fruit, pastries etc etc.

Staff - genuinely very helpful and friendly.

I would recommend not going for all inclusive as there are some great local places to eat - we tried Sunshine bar, Calypso, Mr Bass, Smiling Coast and Surf and Turf. All were excellent. Staying in hotel for a whole week eating a buffet wouldn't have been nearly as fun as getting out to eat in different places! Also, you may wish to avoid the evening entertainment at the hotel! There is a pizza oven pool side which is handy for a lunchtime snack.

You do get approached by the official guides who operate outside of the hotel every time you step out the door but this is part of the course in Gambia! There are all friendly and not intimidating but can be a bit annoying! We decided to use one guide to show us around Bakau and he did an excellent job. We were pleased we did as they really try to make sure you enjoy yourself and its nice to spend money outside of the hotel.

You don't get any hassle whilst using the hotels sunbeds on the beach as there are supervisors around to prevent this.
