This was our fourth stay at this great hotel, it is located right on the beach at Cape Point, set in spacious and well kept grounds. We opted for a deluxe room which generally gives you more room and a better location than the standard ones. The rooms are well laid out and cleaned daily to a high standard. The hotel staff are friendly and do all they can to make your holiday a pleasant one.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis as there are numerous eateries within a short walking distance ranging from local restaurants to Chinese and Italian. We generally dined of fish which was fresh, varied and plentiful. The breakfast provided a great selection of hot and cold foods to a high standard. We did not try the hotels restaurant as we like eating out

There is an upmarket al a carte restaurant in the grounds which seems to be quite expensive so we gave it a miss, but speaking to those who went there said that the food and service were of a high standard.

The private beach, which is adjacent to the hotel, provides free sun beds and towels for guests and has a beach side bar for drinks and snacks.

Also on the beach are fruit juicers who will make you a freshly prepared fruit juice mix of your choice. Ask Soloman for his special coconut mix fruit juice.

If you require a fruit salad for lunch there are fruit sellers available at your service.

Also in this area there are licenced Bird Watcher guides who can also take you on guided tours at a fraction of those provided by the tour operators. These guides are trained and licensed by the Government and have great local knowledge. Ask Mamou to take you out bird watching, he also took us on a tour of Banul and Albert Market and showed us things that tourist normally do not get to see, highly recommended.

Further along the beach opposite the Calypso bar is a fresh water pool that has at least two young crocodiles in it and if you go for a walk early in the morning you may see them basking on the shore line.

In summary, this is a fine hotel right on the beach and is highly recommended

The hotel is clean and comfortable with nice grounds but it is more like a 3/4 star than a 5 star hotel. We stayed at this hotel on a bed and breakfast basis which we would recommend as there are a number of good local restaurants within walking distance, we particularly enjoyed the meals we had at Sunshine Coast, Surf & Turf and Italian Connection. Breakfast in the hotel was good with plenty of variety. If you would like to do some trips we suggest that you use the official tourist guides found opposite the hotel. Falilu took us out & about and we would highly recommend him, he even took us to his house to meet his family!

We had a very good experience, the weather, the hotel and even the bumsters were a joy. All the restaurants served really good food, we particually liked the food and the ambience at the calypso . I also had a really enjoyable night at Mr Bass, the house wine was very good as was the band. If you stay at the Ocean Bay hotel the ask for Abdou at the tourist guide at the front of the hotel he really looked after us well and was a real help. Also the juice boys (my juice maker was Abdou who knows the chelsea celery chant) to the right by the fishing rod hire are really friendly and love to sit and chat football and politics. The bird guides sitting with the the juice boys really know their stuff and my short trip with them was well worth the effort.
All in all this was a great holiday and was over far to soon. We are going back again next year. The flights were a cramped 6hr pain in the aris though.

Having just returned from my 8th visit to this hotel the general standards are still very good. Staff are fantastic, rooms very clean, gardens lovely and breakfasts superb.

However, the hotel must be feeling the pinch as they have cut back on the number of bell-boys as on some evenings there weren't any. They've built a new terrace area by the beach bar but I much preferred the tables on the grass. The roof terrace is undergoing refurbishment (not for the first time).

Ocean Bay is a great base for your holiday. Spend your afternoons lazing by the large pool, wonder in the lovely garden, read in the library. But you must go out and explore the area. Away from the busy tourist area but there are lots of great restaurant's with fab food and very reason, within short walk. Also small tourist market selling local crafts.
The local people are so friendly they really want to make your holiday special. Outside of the hotel are your local official guides. The staff in the hotel will offer be your guide after their shift but they are not trained or official guides and they already have a job so please use the lads outside who's job it is to show you the real Gambia.... they are great. We met Falilu Kassama and what I can Say he is honesty polite intelligent and will make your holiday. Lemon Grass cocktail in hotel great but when on the beach have a fruit drink from juice men.......Just go over take a seat and have a chat with the locals...you will learn so much about The Gamia from them. ML walked with us to see crocodiles. We saw so much of the local life and ML introduced us to so many people. Everyone knows ML. Go with an official guide or a tourist taxi to the monkey park. Our taxi driver bought us peanuts for the monkeys, they really do want you to have a good time. The local school, your official guide can walk there. We had such a great time we are going back for New Year. Lots of revies about bumsters....well if you dont want what they are offering just say a polite no and walk on. Beware they will remember you if you say you will come back later. Relax and enjoy
