After searching the world for the perfect holiday destination i believe we have finally found it.
The hotel; huge spotless, comfortable rooms with air con, massive comfortable beds with extra pillows upon request at no extra cost, quiet, peaceful balcony.
The grounds; very well kept gardens with an abundance of bird life, vultures circle above all day long, which was a little alarming at first, (watched to many films) sunbeds galore, no need to get up at stupid oclock to get the towel on the bed, can get full around the pool but it's to hot there anyway, lie on a bed on the new decking and watch the tide come in beneath you.
Food; perfect, simply perfect, we went half board, breakfast and evening meal, both superb in quality and choice, i personally recommend the pancakes with honey, we had snacks at dinner time with coffee, in the evening we tried the cocktails and more coffee, before we went home we settled up our bill which came to an astonishing £170 we had taken £1000 in preparation, the chef makes a point of talking to all the guests during the week and is very open to any and all ideas you may have.
Staff; my favourite part, i have travelled the world and have never met staff so eager to please their guests, nothing and i mean nothing is to much trouble, a waiter was quite upset when my wife poured her own glass of water at the evening meal, after my wife retired to read in bed i would go and sit with the security down on the beach or at the main gates and just chat with the staff, i ended up surrounded by a huge group of staff sat talking into the small hours, i asked what time they finished work and the said 12 midnight, it was already way past midnight, they said that the guests don't usually take the time to really talk and i was an exception, we had many midnight chats and i feel privileged to be included in them, thanks Jamma.
Trips; did not take any official trips, ask for Habibe, a huge gentle giant that will take you anywhere you want or ask any of the staff for an unofficial tour of Bakou, an eye opener i will not soon forget, it all depends on what you want really, organised tour with a tour operator where everything is set out and planned which feels set up in some way or a local person showing you around a Gambian town, i guarantee an emotional experience.
Tipping; A trip out with a member of staff will cost 500 delasi which is approx £10 but you will be walking, not to far though, Habibe obviously costs more as you go in his vehicle which costs 700 delasi, the three envelope system does go to the staff, which was nice to find out having heard differing views on trip advisor.
Bumsters; had no issues at all but this could be down to my appearance so i don't feel qualified to comment.
I would say that if you are lucky enough to spend any time at this hotel please spend a little time talking with the staff and please try to explain snow better than i can.
special thanks to Jamma, Rainbow and Habibe for making a great holiday fabulous.
