“Second time around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

Just got back from Ngala Lodge and it was even better than ever. Jenny has spoilt us by adding in some extras like nice cushioned wicker type basket chairs for reading, swimming aids by the pool for whimps like me, a non-smoking outside restaurant with a lounge area for drinks and especially for the smokers, a separate comfy lounge where they can indulge in peace. It was a treat too to see all the twinkling Christmas lights have been kept as a permanent feature.
Now we have orange lanterns down on the beach deck which can be seen from the cliff top.
I was hoping to return for Christmas and the New Year but sadly my favourite suite has
already been taken so I shall have to get in early for 2014. Another lovely time with fellow guests, happy staff, not forgetting Jonathon, the Chef who forgot to buy my petit pois and
Jenny, the Matriach who keeps everything ticking over. Keep up the good work you two.
Next time I hope to have a colourful Nasturtium salad!!

Room Tip: Don't want to put down my favourite room as I will have even more trouble in securing it but al...

The Ngala Lodge is an amazing hotel to stay at. The attention to detail was second to none. The staff was friendly and polite and catered to all my needs. I ate at the hotel and the food was very good. The portion size was good.

The rooms were impeccable. The decor, the cleanliness was perfect. This hotel fully deserves its star status. The staff was amazing, thinking of every need before I could even think of them, Well done to all those who work there!

The service and beautiful rooms set this hotel apart from the others.

The only fault is you cannot book direct and have to go through a third party.

Due to its location, it's not really a hotel for kids.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you will come back and see us again. The hotel is, in fact, a child free hotel - we do not accept reservations for accommodation for guests under the age of 16.

Arrived home a week ago from Ngala Lodge after our second holiday in this stunning hotel ,as in all the previous reviews we could not fault any aspect of our stay, from the hard working gardeners who keep the grounds immaculate, the ever polite & attentive breakfast waitresses & waiters,& the seemless dinner service with a particular thank you Johnathan the chief who never fails to deliver exquisite cuisine every time, also a special thanks to Dembo & Malick for there kind attention during our stay,& finally but not least we are so glad to have meet & made a friend in Jenny the hotel manager, what an great asset & contribution she has made to this truly outstanding hotel ,her professionalism & seemless way of making everything happen here for us the guests is priceless.TTFN for now & hope to see you all soon.

Room Tip: Think all the suites are spacious & unique ,but we particularly like the first floor for the stu...

Ngala gets better and better - 2nd time here and fifth or sixth in Gambia. Simply can't be beaten as it is head and shoulders above all of the other hotels in the area. Great atmosphere, private, peaceful, beautiful, spacious rooms (we stayed in the Atlantic suites), good food and fabulous attentive staff within the Hotel and combined with the grittiness and culture of West Africa sprinkled with guaranteed sunshine it makes the perfect winter break! We will be back. Thanks to Jenny and her team!

Ngala is a little bit of heaven - incredibly beautiful setting and gardens overlooking the Atlantic, stunning suite, wonderful food and total relaxation. With only 18 rooms, it never feels crowded; privacy is easy to find when it's wanted. The friendliness of the other guests meant that we felt at home and welcome from the moment we arrived. But Ngala's biggest asset is its staff - from Jenny and Jonathan through the restaurant and room staff to the gardeners and behind-the-scenes people, we have never known service like it.

We did practically nothing except read, swim, walk up and down the glorious beach, and eat and drink. Apart, that is, from a brilliant day's fishing out with Richard Sheard of World Sport Fishing and Omar, his captain - starting looking for tarpon in the river mouth, then moving to fish out on the Banjul Barra and coming home with a thoroughly respectable catch. Highly recommended, but perhaps not for beginners as you might hook into something pretty serious.

We will definitely be back and for ten days rather than a week. Just can't wait.

Thanks for this review - we are delighted that you had such a good time! It was great to meet you both and next time you come I just might come fishing with you! (I knew nothing about Tarpon before and had no idea they were so big (size of a sofa!) or so interesting!) I look forward to welcoming you back!

What can I say about Ngala Lodge ... unfortunately we only had a week to play with, and having been to other resorts in Gambia and done many fantastic trips, we thought we would just like to relax this time ...... my goodness me did we relax. The suites, be it standard or one of the fantastic atlantic suites are all superb, Jenny (Manager) very kindly showed us around quite a few and we loved them all. Beds are vast and so very comfortable, I have not slept so well in a long time. Staff, restaurant, food, gardens, sun deck on the beach, bird life, breakfast, wonjo and baobab juice, library books, pool towels, pool, even Rasta the cat ..... all fantastic. Sooo good in fact we came home and booked for next year (10 day's ) straight away . Nothing is too much trouble for any of the fantastic staff ....... my advise is to go, it is a truly little bubble of perfection.

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic ...... we stayed in room 8. Viewed many of the others, could not find fault...

Fantastic suites and rooms, wonderful garden, really quiet at night, wonderful birds during the day, great restaurant with supernice and inventive food, absolutely fantastic staff and a guide that took you where you wanted to go. A local man that knew about the culture, the way people lived etc. Unfortunately we have already booked a trip to Okavango next year but will definitely be back the following year - and we can't wait!
Tanji fishmarket in the morning is a must; visit to a family's compound was heartwarming, Paradise Beach was lovely but would have been even better if I had not left my swimmers at the hotel....Great lobsters, though. My family went on other excursions, like the slave Island and Serecunda Market. Being an old softy the Slave Island was out of the question and Serekunda in the afternoon would have been too hot for me but they enjoyed it a lot.

Wow!! What a fabulous review! Thank you very much for this. We really enjoyed having you to stay and thank you so much for picking up the whale bones on the beach for us. They are spectacular! I particularly like the tail bone which will soon be on display for all to see. I look forward to welcoming you back to Ngala Lodge!
