The service , the staff in new uniforms, the service and the cleanliness standards are much improved from my visit in Jan 2012, im so glad i took the time to visit the hotel during my holiday this year 2013 i could see how much effort has gone into improving the service in Palm Beach in the last year. I would be happy to stay there in future. Well done to the Management and staff keep up the good work.

After our third visit here, the beds have been renewed (memory foam) and the place has had a general tidy up. Had a great time although got fed up of having to sign friends into the hotel grounds when the staff/manager and security actually new our guests as they played drums their every week ! the prices have gone up slightly since last year for food and drinks but thats to be expected. No trouble from the beach sellers etc.... i think they remembered us ! word of advice to any newbies - don't say your going to buy from one of the shops/beach sellers later or the next day and then dont do it - they get most upset and why lie ? just say you don't want anything - its honest and doesnt get there hopes up (most of them have to live off the tips) all in all we had a great time, the staff were more than helpful and friendly, stayed in A14 overlooking the pool - quite noisy but we didnt go to stay in the room all fortnight ! Fantastic bonfire on the beach on Sunday nights with local band drumming - who don't get paid and rely on tips in the hat (so don't be tight ?) will be going back ASAP -

Room Tip: Your in The Gambia not Europe just remember this - basic but clean and VERY friendly

Ive stayed here twice now and will be staying again, its location is wonderful, the beach is great and the staff are excellent.

Ive worked all over the world and by african standards this is a fine hotel, some of the reviews here measure against european or american standards, if thats what you want stay at the senegambia and pay three times more thats what you pay for !!

Its clean, the plugs work, hot water is genrally plentiful, doors lock and new towels and bedding every day. Yes its not the most well repaired or painted but its location is fantastic.

If you want to go to the strip its a 40 minute walk along the most beautiful beach, stop at few of the bars, the Gambian stafff are always hospitable and more than friendly. If you want to bird watch then this is right on the Bolong, walk out of the front door and you are there.

Foods not as good at the beach restaurant as last time i stayed but its still okay for a curry.

beers not bad price for a hotel and taxis are available anywhere, walk up to the top of the road and a yellow cab is 25 dalasai to senegambia or serrukunda (50p)

I would recommend Bakau for a meal and an evening out becuase its quieter and personally im not one for the tourist thing but this is a happy medium.

If you get chance and a driver the snake park/sanctuary is a great day (1 hours drive) out very well educated staff and only a few quid donation to the upkeep and conservation, not european standards here you can get a grip with them all if you want. Senegal border only couple of miles further and the local villages are lovely

Room Tip: stay further away from the pool if you want peace, facing inwards gets evening sun on balcony mornin...

having been to goa i knew what t expect, but it was better, cannot fault the staff in any way, we were in a cheap room and it had a couple of defects which were sorted same day, very impressed. advice to first timers, if you drink outside of the hotel make sure the drinks come to your table unopened, ask for it to be so, they understand why you are being careful.if you are up for something exciting cross the river in a local boat, (pick a calm day) i am 72 and enjoyed it, make the return trip in a plastic speed boat ( 2 only )expect to pay about £7 not for faint hearted, we made the crossing in about 7 mins.A mention for 2 people thomas cook rep. very good, and Ibrahim Bah the money changer, if he can help you he will, a good man.

Room Tip: unless you are an african drum fanatic A8 is to be avoided (if you stay up late it is not a problem...

We have just returned from our 5th holiday at Palm beach. This holiday was as good as our first trip here,if not better. The hotel is all ways clean and tidy, the room is always cleaned to a high standard with fresh bed linen and towels every day. If you expect 4 or 5 star, then this hotel is not for you. As always the staff and the service they give is brilliant. But remember that G M T in this country stands for Gambian Maybe Time. Power cuts are a way of life here, although they do not last for long, so its a good idea to pack a torch in your luggage. Bumpsters were not a problem this January as the security guards now do an excellent job on the beach.
Talking of the beach,i had the oppertunatey to help the local fisherman to haul in their nets,to which they were very grateful. But was horrified by the holiday makers who forced them to return the only catch of the day, that being a turtle,ok i accept that it may of been a protected spiecies, but they live off of the sea,and have been doing this since time began, its how they survive. So they had nothing to take back to feed their children that day. Would have been nice if the crowd gave them i few delasse to buy them there dinner with that night.
On a lighter note,if you need a bird or wildlife guide then Aziz is your man, know locally as the Bill Oddie of Gambia.Keep an eye out for him at the hotel. Most other wildlife guides base themselves on him.Had a couple of trips with him again this year and he made the trips outstanding.
All in all another blinding holiday, and we will be returning once again in November.

Room Tip: block a if you want air handling

The hotel is tidy, the staff are brilliant and very helpful. Shower broke first day, was fixed straight away. Electricity cut out 3rd day but again was fixed straight after. What more could you ask for?

The hotel was reliable, beds and room fine, cleaned daily to a suitable standard.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to a friend, unless they understood the difference between hotels in Europe and Africa, but if they did then I definitely would as there were no major faults at all.

Any questions feel free to drop me a message!

We stayed at the Palm beach December 11th to 25th our room was adequate for our needs although we did hire a fridge and bought a few beers from the wholesaler on the strip, the room was cleaned every day to a high standard as were all the public areas in the hotel, for what we paid I think it was value for money and we would definitley go back. This hotel is in a great location and positioned well for all the local attractions.

Room Tip: Email the hotel to request a pool view room.
