Just returned from our 7th visit to this wonderful little hotel. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Rooms are basic but spacious and clean. Staff could not be more friendly and helpful. Our mosquito netting on the window had a tear and, as soon as we reported, it was replaced. Food is delicious. Lots of good eating places within easy walking distance, JDs,Paradise Beach Bar and Ninki Nanka are just a few. People will always want to talk and shake hands but a kind word and gentle,'No thank you' and you will be left in peace. The juice boys on the beach, especially Aladin, will make you a delicious fresh fruit drink-try one. Weather is superb. Cannot wait to return.
Just be prepared to smile a lot. Enjoy.

I have stayed here as a single for the past three years and can't wait to return. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and the staff so friendly and kind. The room windows are well netted against mosquito's. You are guaranteed a good full English breakfast plus fruit, good bread, cheese, tomato, cucumber, porridge, cereals and juices. There are several good restaurants in the resort, Boss Lady serves tasty African dishes, The Captain's Table, Ninky Nando's and Sailors are very good for a variety of dishes including tender, juicy steaks and fish dishes.

The hotel is situated in an attractive location with well tendered gardens and the tidal creek running in front of the breakfast veranda; an ideal spot to watch the Pied kingfishers diving for their meal. There is day time entertainment e.g. table tennis tournaments and darts. The pool is small but rarely full. Evening entertainment is chiefly African. There is a good BBQ each Saturday night.
It is an ideal place to stay for Bird Watching as the highly experienced Bird Guides have their office just outside the hotel driveway, if you require their assistance.. Even a non birder could get hooked here!

Walking the beach is great, cross the creek at low tide close to the sea edge, or by small boat at high tide, continue for about 50 minutes to the Senegambia Hotel in time for their daily Vulture feed at 11-30am, it's very entertaining. The grounds are also good for birds, monitor lizards and green vervet monkeys. After the feed, you can take an extra ten minute walk to Bijilo forest Park which is full of green vervet's and keep a lookout for the rather shyer Red Colobus Monkey.
Walking the opposite way from the hotel is a shorter walk, passing Domino's bar and Paradise bar. The beach ends at some large boulders, but you can get up onto the road up some steps by the craft market or the Leybato Hotel beforehand, I you wish to carry on up to Cape point, which takes about 1hour 15 minutes from the hotel. Alternatively there are plenty of taxi's to reach these places.

Room Tip: Rooms and bungalows away from the pool and kitchen area are quieter.

We have just come back from two weeks at the Sunset Beach complex in Gambia .
It was simply great .The staff were so friendly and couldnt do enough for us .
We stayed in Mango Lane a row of bungalows from where we could hear the ocean .
We went out of the complex and although there was a little hassle form persons trying to sell things for the most part it was great ,We met a few characters and made friends with them and indeed have started to contact them by e-mail ..We visited a school which was basic and we intend to send them donations to help them .
Some of the numerous taxi drivers are very persistent but we met one named Sir Sheffiff who was fantastic .So much so we kept his telephone number for when we hopefully return His iobile number on mobile in Gambia is 9911291 .You must go to Sunset Beach .We also went to many of the restaurants offsite as well as the one onsite .The food was lovely There is no need to leave the complex but one must take in the ambiance of the surrounding area ,This was or first time in Gambia and it will certainly not be our last

Room Tip: Try to choose a bungalow away from the bar area quieter

this was our 3rd visit to the sunset out of 6 to The Gambia. we had a lovely time again, nice to see Margaret restuarant/bar manager still there as helpful as ever, and Bobby ,entertainments, just a pity not more people joined in with the activities. rooms were cleaned daily, fresh towels & clean sheets every 3/4 days. ALL STAFF were very friendly ,not rude & yes although english is spoken well, they will speak in their native tongue. food was fine nice choice on the menu & buffet 3 course evening meal for 550 dalasi. taxis fixed prices to differrent places, but there are plenty of places to eat on the doorstep, paradise bar for cheap african meals to chicken & chips. captains or ninka nanki's for some lovely fish/steaks/chicken cuisine. tandor for a curry. looking for a relaxing/culture holiday then look now further .

Room Tip: a6 end bungalow noisy sunday nights due to disco from hotel next door,& boys drumming sometimes...

This was our 7th visit to the Gambia and the 2nd to this hotel. Had to be moved to one of the bungalow blocks the first year as the ground floor room had zero sound proofing and we could hear our neighbours breathing!. Made sure we got a bungalow room this year, but had to be moved again straight away as the toilet leaked over the floor and the aircon remote did not work. As usual though, the staff were great and friendly and very fast to react to any problems. My wife and I have dietary issues and can't eat gluten or dairy - would definitely recommend the chefs here as they have catered wonderfully to our needs and neither of us have had a reaction.Unlike the Kombo next door, which is why we swapped. Would also recommend Rama for a massage in their spa. We slept really well and didn't see a mosquito all week, probably because they spray regularly in the grounds. A solid 3 star hotel, good value for money and all extra charges are explained clearly at the outset, so no misunderstandings.

Room Tip: Get a bungalow room away from the pool - A to C blocks. Unless you like to have the entertainment in...
