our 3rd visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it once again. The Staff as friendly and welcoming as usual. Beach lovely (if you ignore the fruit sellers) pool area lovely and pizza from Geckos at lunchtime was very nice indeed. We did B&B again. Sailors bar up the beach do a lovely lunch. We visited the Clay Oven again (3 times), the best curry house EVER. Also tried Luigi's by Palma Rima this time and the food was delicious. Sea Breeze bar on the highway do a cracking steak and kidney pie, and nice sunday roasts too. The internet has improved massively in the hotel, it was almost non-existant last year. Livs have a great selection of sports channels too. Enjoyed a round of golf up at Fajara Golf club, great fun and also 2 days creek fishing.
We came home totally relaxed and will be back again.......

Room Tip: 1st block nearest the pool gets noisy till midnight, but its ok after that. Suites are very nice, I...

My 6th visit to the Gambia, and my first holiday at the Kombo Beach Hotel,i was impressed when we arrived with the cool face cloths and keys left on the reception table, porters took our cases to our rooms, and we checked in later. Our superior room was on the top floor in the furthest block (4) overlooking the tennis courts, the Sunset Beach Hotel and with a view of the sea and palms which was lovely. The room had everything needed as complimentary-free air con, kettle with tea/coffee replenished daily, fridge,tv and safe. The room and curtains/bedspreads was a bit dated but a good size with the best bathroom ive had in the Gambia-fully tiled and very clean, the room had a chair and coffee table, metal chaise longue and twin beds, though i did keep banging my head on the lighting unit over the bed !!! And the balcony with a lovely sunny open aspect, strangely with an air con unit on the floor at one end.The hotel grounds are kept beautifully manicured and litter free by the friendly gardeners, the breakfast choice was fantastic, the lounges and bars all had very friendly staff and there is plenty of facilities scattered around the hotel grounds and places to relax. The pool area is very clean and attractive, and the beach outside is a beautiful stretch of white sand, shaded by palms with wooden sunbeds with mattresses and free beach towels, with flat access to the sea, unlike the unattractive eroded beach down in the Kololi/Senegambia area that needs Government attention to restore and protect it. My friends had a Premium Room which was larger and had a beautiful large sunny garden terrace with wooden loungers which was lovely. There is a range of entertainment daily and evenings, all good quality, and a good range of activities available- one of my Gambian friends gave interesting kora lessons in the gardens. Everywhere the staff are very friendly, and a couple of room maintainance problems soon dealt with. As a travel agent i will highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: even number rooms have the sunshine for much of the day

My first experience of Africa and it was excellent. My friend and I booked a week 30th Nov until 7th Dec 2012. We stayed at the Kombo Beach Hotel and so glad we did. The staff were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and polite. Everyone there wanted to say good morning and smile which makes you feel good. The room was adequate for us, the decor was a bit tired, but I wouldn't have wanted anymore in such a poor country. We did have a sea view and was 2 minutes away from the Baracuda bar which led onto the wonderful beach. The entertainment staff, especially Ashley Cole, was very helpful and such a good laugh. The breakfast was average and we didn't stay and eat in evening so cannot comment on it. The Gecko bar food was excellent in taste and value for money. We brought many refreshments from the Baracuda bar because the staff were so friendy. We made some very good friends that week. Can't wait to return again next year - Thank you to all the staff at Kombo Beach Hotel - see you next year

Room Tip: sea view near the Baracuda bar as it is quiet but well placed

Have been a visitor to the Kombo since 2005, wonderful location 50metres from the beach, but unfortunately nothing has been changed in the rooms, rooms needs some urgent refurbishment.Phone did not work in 2011 and that is in the same position as 2012, I would have thought that with the fire experience of Xmas 2011 lessons should have been learnt .Reported the fault but two weeks later still not rectified. Quite good for bodyboarding, boards can be hired with tuition if required from "Rodney's Surfboard Hire" on the beach in front of Sunset Beach Hotel

Had a great holiday booked at the last minute through Gambia experience. Hotel was good, had a room on the 3rd floor at the beach end so got good views of the sea.
Very good breakfasts. Meals in brasserie rather slow in the evenings.
Our holiday was made by the excellent bird watching in Gambia. We met a local bird watching guide, Foday, at Kotu bridge near the hotel and were so impressed with him went out on 3 occasions with him and during the week were able to identify 125 differenr species.
He can be contacted via bojangfoday@yahoo.co.uk

Room Tip: £rd floor at beach end of the block

Over 15 years since I last came to the Kombo: my return was due to the Senegambia being full. Both the hotel and the area have changed quite a bit in that time.

The room was a good size with plenty of storage, and the bed was quite comfortable. The fridge didn't work and nor did many of the lights, but you expect that sort of thing in the Gambia. There is a safe but you have to pay extra for it; I improvised my own security using a chain and padlock. A/c is provided free, but I never used it (you only need it in the wet season). The first couple of nights I had a problem with insects in the room, but got around this by spraying the room each evening and blocking the gap under the door with a spare towel.

There is a good pool area and the hotel is right alongside the beach, so plenty of room for sunbathing. There are also plenty of both natural and artificial shade areas for when the sun gets to be too much.

Breakfast was adequate, though the range is not nearly as good as that in the Senegambia.
When it comes to dinner, Kotu is not quite like the Senegambia Strip, but it has improved greatly in recent years and there are now at least 8 restaurants (not counting hotels) within easy walking distance of the Kombo. There is a small supermarket opposite.

The best I can say about the gym is that it is better than the Sengambia's, which frankly isn't saying much. There are a few aged and somewhat suspect looking machines; one of the upright bikes is just about useable. Probably the most useful bits are the two barbells (though one of them lacks anything to retain the weights) and a couple of spinlock type dumbbells.

It is a very short walk from the Kombo to Kotu Bridge; this is an excellent birdwatching site, and a prime meeting place for birders and guides. The golf course is also very close by.
