We spent a week here as part of a medical mission trip 1-14. The rooms were very large but the A/C was barely able to keep up in the face of 100F daytime heat. Ceiling fan could really be cranked up to make the difference. Internet bandwidth was very limited and necessitated trips to Vodafone Cafe for good access. Mattresses were a firm foam block but most of us were too tired to care. Restaurant was adequate, tho a short cab ride away gave access to 'Luxury' and 'Tacorabama'. Hotel fronts onto a dusty, dry road. Maybe next time the dust levels will be down and there will be water in the pool! I gave a 'poor' rating on cleanliness only because of the dust that this dry region is noted for. Our room and bathroom were otherwise very clean. Front desk staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating and really added to the quality of our stay. would look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Hotel is on three levels w/o elevator, so consider how all of those steps will look at the end of th...

During my recent visit to Tamale, I stayed at Modern City Lodge for the 1st night. The rooms are very spacious and individually air conditioned. Toilets are spacious with hot water facility. WiFi is available. The restaurant is OK, the food is palatable. The building is still to be finished, rubble and dust is a nuisance. Don't have great expectations.

Room Tip: Don't have many expectations to avoid disappointment, avoid walking outside at nights.

+ The rooms are big and spacious. Airconditioned.
- Breakfast so bad i didn't bother
+- Wireless internet, but depends on your room.
+ Restaurant quite ok for region
- No hot water in my room ("solar"). They did nothing about it.
- The building is half finished, and building rubble everywhere. Even in the empty pool.
It's the lack of willingness of the front desk staff to help that was disappointing. Eventually on my last day they allowed me to take a shower in another room. As far as they were concerned most people don't care about hot water.

There was no great expectation of the kind of hotels which would be available at this location, so this was a surprise. The hotel is relatively new, with large rooms (though I had a level higher than a basic room). The hotel has facilities for large meetings and workshops, so this is a definite advantage. Breakfast is very, very basic, food is generally OK. Service is average, with no major reason for complaints. It is quiet, as the work site next door (the hotel is expanding) was not taking place. The price is comparable to large cities, so it is slightly on the expensive side.

Very poor service for the price, noisy hotel - internet connection did not work for the whole week and no one seems to care much. Breakfast is poor and the attitude of the staff is not very friendly. More importantly - if you are obliged to stay there avoid walking at night in the road leading to the hotel. we were attacked and violently robbed in March 2013.

Very poor price quality deal! Due to minimal information, I was forced to pay for expenses I would have never thought of paying. I had to argue with difficulty whilst the ladies at the counter knew very well that they should have informed me better. If this information was provided, I wouldn't dream of staying at a hotel that is a building site without functional aircon in the room and that charges me 40 cedis extra without reason. The hotel was mostly empty and had a bad vibe. I assure travellers that there are much better options in Tamale. Unless you have to be here for a conference this is a definate NO GO!

Dumb_screen_name said it all: "poor fit and finish" but typical for this part of the world.

On the + side: The best water pressure I experienced in Sub-Saharan Africa (South Africa aside), some very good staff members, very large rooms, quiet overnight, great lunch arrangements.

On the - side: Dusty hotel, much noise through building/expanding the hotel overday, only one towel (if any) provided, some (very) annoyed staff, unreliable internet, bad bed quality, horrendous restaurant for evenings.

On the balance sheet: That's what you might expect in Tamale and some argue it is the best hotel in town. It's definitely ok, but only for conferences or strictly sleep-over base for touristic trips, no fun inside...

If you organise a conference for a large group (50+) this might be the only viable option in town. If you organise a smaller meeting or go for holiday, find another place, though you might not get much better...

Room Tip: Stay close to the reception as it helps get a better internet connection (if that matters to you). I...
