“Great, if exhausting, trip to Lokobe with Donald”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2013

We booked a day tour to Lokobe with Auguste as we were in Nosy Be for the day with a cruise ship and wanted to maximise our time and see wild lemurs, rather than the tame ones at Nosy Komba. Despite the ship failing badly to get everyone off on time, we still managed to do everything we wanted to, albeit on a tight schedule.

Donald was our guide and he was simply one of the most informative, friendly and genuinely nice guides we have ever had. There was nothing he didn't know or wasn't interested in and his English was excellent. We didn't really know what to expect as the e-mails we had exchanged with Auguste has been a little vague, mainly due to the language barrier, but don't let that put you off.

It was a lot more physical than we had imagined from the e-mails so might not be suitable for anyone with physical challenges. We did ask in the e-mails how much walking was involved as we had some older friends who were interested and didn't really get a straight reply, again, due to language I guess. There was a lot of walking, across uneven ground and beach, and approx 1 hour each way in a dugout canoe across the sea to get to Lokobe, all in 34C temperatures and 90% humidity. Don't let this put you off - it was a great experience - but simply be aware if you do have fitness problems then make sure you clarify exactly what you are going to do!

it's worth the effort though, as you arrive in a beautiful quiet spot miles from anywhere (and other tourists) in a tiny village on the edge of the reserve. A few minutes walk finds you in the forest and in a different world. We didn't see lots of lemurs, but that's the point. The ones we did see took some finding and were completely wild and far more satisfying than somewhere like Nosy Komba, where they are tame, like a zoo. Plenty of other wildlife as well - boa constrictor, chameleons and even a rare sight of a nocturnal lemur. Great lunch provided (also not mentioned in the e-mail!).

All in all an excellent day and highly recommended. We will certainly use them again when we return.

“Wonderful wildlife, great snorkeling and fantastic guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

We had a great trip with Auguste who took us on a trip from Nosy Be to Tanikely a beautiful, small island paradise where we saw brightly coloured chameleons, lemers, big fruit bats and lizards and had some fantastic snorkeling with turtles and many colourful fish. Then we went to the island of Nosy Kombi, accompanied by dolphins, to see the fishing village, the rare black lemers and more chameleons. A great day with Auguste entertaining us with his vast knowlege of the wildlife and local life, everybody in our party of 12 loved our visit to Nosy Be thanks to Auguste.
