“Good location”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights near the end of a 4 week trip to Malawi and Zambia but I was a little disappointed as although the room was comfortable and the staff friendly, we were surrounded by business people taking part in a conference and so it was not as relaxing as I had hoped for. Also, dinner on 2 evenings was a buffet style and by the time we got there most of the choices had run out. Breakfast, whilst very good, also ran out and so we had to wait for our choices. The hotel seemed rather impersonal and much more geared to business than to tourists. Furthermore, my husband needed wi-fi access and despite our requesting assistance to sort out the on going problems, no one seemed at all interested in helping us.

We stayed here a few weeks back and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff were all very welcoming and attentive, even the trainees on attachment from the Hotel Training School. The food in the restaurant was good and the general ambiance was appealing, with great views across the lake.
Our room was clean, comfortable and adequate. The aircon was a bit noisy and the kettle in the room didn't work, but overall it was fine.
We will always be happy to return!

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms on the beach, they have a nice verandah to sit and have your Malawi gin and ton...

We stayed there for about a week, arriving on a Sunday and leaving on the next Saturday. It is far away from Lilongwe and Blantrye. It is ideal for workshops, if you do not want people running into town. The place is also quiet and peaceful, and after the workshop, I enjoyed lying by the Lake and just looking out into the water. The rooms were well prepared and all was in good working order. The staff are friendly and I must congratulate the hotel for getting as many local staff as possible. Although their capacity still needs to be built to improve service, they are a friendly and helpful lot. The food was great, and though for A la carte meals, one had to wait for a long period of time. I would definitely go back to this place again and I can recommend it for people who want a nice getaway..
Ohhh, by the way. . . . the drive to the place is breath-taking both in terms of scenery and steep slopes.

Room Tip: The further the chalets from the main areas, the better the sleep and less the disturbances. The lo...

We stayed there for only one day so I cannot really say something about rooms, breakfast etc. BUT the day we spend there was wonderful. The staff is very nice and heartwarming. They also try very hard to make you comfortable. We had Chicken Kwazu Kwazu for lunch and it was delicious. Also for every Malawi inhabitant: they have selfmade ice cream which is really yummy! oh and they have cheese as well. So for all long stay Malawi visitors this is a must go!

I traveled around Malawi for a week, staying mostly at Sunbird hotels, and this was my least favorite hotel, all because I felt like they falsely advertised their accommodations. The room is nice and my balcony opens up right into the beach but they don't seem very organized as I had to ask for towels for my room and the remote to turn on the AC. This is also super picky but there's no Internet in the room. In theory there is some in the lobby. I'll find out if this is true shortly. The rooms are also pretty dark, even with all of the available lights on.

Stayed for one night. The impression one gets while driving into the lodge is of four star service. The hospitality and service of the crew is wonderful and heart warming. The beach location is amazing. The meals were all splendid, from the variety of fish (chambo) we indulged in to the continental breakfast... along with excellent service. The rooms however, are small, the interior is less than ideal and though we had a beach view room, the door opening mechanism was old and clumsy making it bothersome to access the veranda. The kettle heater still had old dirty water, the coffeepot had coffee i guess from the previous guest, the bathroom had used soap that had been left and not cleaned after. The swimming pool had not been cleaned for a while. In conclusion, factoring in the cost, i would advice one against sleeping here because the lack of attention to detail cannot be overlooked. For much less one can get better value for money for equally good if not better locations.

I just had the pleasure of staying at the Nkopola on the shores of Lake Malawi, and a very pleasant experience it was. Staff were amazingly polite and helpful. Food served was excellent, try the Chambo fillets with lemon butter, Yum! The rooms walk out onto the beach and it felt more like a holiday than a business trip. It was nice to return at the end of the working day to such a pleasant environment.
