“Unspoilt beach and roomy chalets”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

My husband and I have just spent a quiet "getaway" at Archipelago Resort for our wedding anniversary. We loved every minute of it. The chalets (casas) are roomy and comfortable and have breath-taking views of the ocean (book early to get a sea view casa). We often ate in the resort restaurant and their seafood and local 2M beers became our favourite! We also made a few trips to the small Vilanculos town to eat at other restaurants. It is about a 15 minute trip and we liked the Kilimanjaro coffee shop and the bars on the beach.

The days were warm and we enjoyed an unforgettable dhow trip to the islands. We have never seen such unspoilt beauty. The evenings can be chilly so we did wrap up when necessary. Archipelago is not expensive and because of that we are wanting to return in October when it will be much warmer. And we were told that October is the month when they have special low prices.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff who were so helpful and friendly. Roll on October!

Room Tip: try to get a sea view casa for breath-taking views. The view from the bar and restaurant are equall...

I stayed at Archipelago lodge as a riding client and had the most wonderful time there - extremely difficult to leave and I would certainly recommend it to anyone. The staff were friendly and attentive and always willing to go the extra mile to help. They worked closely with the Pat and Mandy with the horses so our meals always worked in around rides. The food was wonderful, fish straight from the sea and the bar and restaurant had a great relaxed environment. The casa was beautiful and certainly spacious and well kept. I had a wonderful view straight over the amazing beach. The lodge was located on a quieter stretch of beach so it was peaceful but the staff were more than happy to organise transportation to the north side of town where there are many more bars, restaurants and some markets. They gave advice on where to go and helped with the booking. There is a diving centre at the lodge and it was easy to get into contact with the instructor and organise some activities. All were held in a safe and professional manner and the lodge has a dive pool where you can practise. This lodge is absolutely fantastic and would be suitable for families, couples and solo traveller. It was a perfect place to relax after exhilarating rides along the beach.

My friend and I stayed for one week the beginning of July as part of a riding holiday and were so disappointed. First off - the lodge is located at the far end of the beach with nothing else around and very little actual beach to enjoy. We were told not to walk around the beach due to security reasons….but it was suppose to be a beach holiday! There are many more places on the other side of the beach – nice lodges, cafes, restaurants and so many water sports to enjoy, none of which are offered by Archipelago. They do have an office that says they offer diving, canoeing, etc., and we mentioned a few times we would like to try several activities but were always told “come back later” and that was that. The chalets are big so I can imagine they are quite popular with families but they are old and run down and cold and damp. The plumbing is in dire need of some updating and the lighting is so dim we had to walk around with our torches just to move around the chalet in the evenings. Mosquitoes are a given at any place in Mozambique and they do offer netting for the beds but not only did we have to deal with the mosquitoes, we had fire ants and termites living on the ceilings and dropping down on us every time we tried to use the sitting area. We were told “turn off the lights and they will go away” which is good advice but when you are stuck in a lodge that is totally isolated from everything and everyone else and it’s only 8pm….you would like to be able to keep a few lights on and maybe visit with friends or read. The management did nothing. The restaurant is nice and we did have a couple good meals and I must say the folks who worked in the restaurant were lovely and took good care of us. That was pretty much the only good thing about our stay at this lodge. I would not recommend it to anyone.

We are very disappointed to receive our first bad review at this wonderful resort. We have had many excellent reviews in the past. A full investigation will be carried out, as we are very confused having received a report from the resort that these guests were thoroughly enjoying themselves!

Wonderful location on a fantastic beach. We stayed for a week with extended family, and wished we could have had longer at the resort. The casa was spacious and comfortable and clean, the staff friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back

Our daughter and son-in-law were married at this resort in May. 30 of us arrived from destinations as diverse as South Africa and Northern Europe. It is in many ways thanks to the friendly and unstinting support of the staff that most of us left saying it was the best wedding we had ever been to. All our needs were efficiently looked after, the casa's were ideal, the activities were wide-ranging and suitable for all tastes. We left on a high having been treated to one of the most unforgettable weeks most of us will ever experience.

Fabulous destination made immeasurably better by real, caring humans at every level. Thanks again and highly recommended!

A paradise location, right on a completely untouched beach, this is a real gem. The accommodation is arranged in 'casas' along the gardens, we were lucky enough to have a view of the ocean from ours! They seem perfect for a family or friends sharing, as each has a couple of bedrooms plus bathrooms and living/kitchen area. The style is rustic but extremely comfortable and well-equipped.
There is a pool, as sometimes the beach can be a little windy, but is still simply stunning.
the service was great, with the staff friendly and helpful. the food was excellent, especially the seafood platter (easily enough for 3 people).
All round, highly reccommended as a beautiful exotic getaway, with the best snorkelling I have ever experienced.
