“Traveling with Children”

Traveling with children the accomodation was very nice and the staff was friendly. The dinner and breakfast was also excellent. Finding a bakery in the desert was a nice suprise, with a really excellently stocked shop next door.

If u travelling from Sesriem to Solitaire, its a gravel road. The road is hectic and if u not used to gravel roads rather be safe than sorry, drive slow. The lodge cater for tour groups so double bed rooms are limited.

We came from Swakopmund and experienced the changing landscapes, from desert sands into growing more green. On the way we started seeing again those shy zebras and some game. It was a refreshing sight, as we didn't see them for a few days, since we climbed down from the northern mountains of Opuwo into the Skeleton Coast. But the important thing to mention, is that you need to drive carefully and adjust to the changing conditions. For several days now, there were only flat, very straight and long gravel roads segments. On the way to Solitair, you suddednly come to a place in which the sign tells you of 9 km of winding road. You're so used to driving fast and straight already, that you may ignore, or not act upon it fast enough. This is what happened to the 4 Japanese guys who reached the curves sometime before us (see pictures). When we got there, we verified that no one is in need of immediate help or is injured, but the sight was quite shocking. Luckily they were all OK. 2 of them stayed close to the crashed car and the other 2 we met in Solitair. Beautiful place, by the way, with a sense of humor (population sign). And, proved to be right - has some excellent apple pies.
We decided to continue to Sossusvlei after all, so we can hit the dunes by sunrise.

Conveniently located for easy access to Sossusvlei. A good option for an en route stop over to Swakopmund or Windhoek. Variety of accommodation to suit all budget types (offering both a campsite and en suite accommodation is also great for groups). Located next door to the bakery with the famous Apple pie. Bonus!! Spacious rooms, basic and clean with all necessary amenities. Lovely swimming pool set on perfectly manicured grass.

A lovely little oasis in the middle of nowhere with only 92 residents. A great place for clients to stop over for a night to break their journey. The rooms were cool and quite spacious and there is a lovely big pool where one can relax. The food at the restaurant was fantastic and the Apple Strudel is legendary.

We did not spend the night, but had a look at the rooms and facilities.
Basic good lodge – rooms could enjoy a soft refurbishment. Pity the pool was neglected – in the past it was always clean. The Apfelstrudel was delicious and this place is still a favourite stop.

We stayed for two nights at Solitaire and we're in for a pleasant surprise. After the new owners took over they renovated, upgraded and improved. Even the buffet was of remarkable quality. We were in low season and despite that there was enough staff, ever friendly. In short: recommanded!
