This lodge is conveniently located a couple of kilometers from the entrance to Sossusvlei. The chalets are very nice - offering astonishing sunrise, sunset and stargazing views. The staff is very friendly and the sundowner drive was the best one we had in Namibia. The cactea garden and the pool are two additional features which make this lodge recommendable. Also for families travelling with kids - our daughter loved the chalet veranda to sit and play as well as the pool.

We stayed here for one night, after a long long drive from Windhoek, this small lodge gave us a warm welcome and cozy rooms. Maybe because of located in desert, there are not many kinds of food. The view from the room was very beautiful. It's about 40 minutes drive from the gate of the park, so we can see the sunrise on the road. But it's much cheaper than the lodge in the park.

The road is long....to many a winding road...untill you get here from Walvisbaai.... We were tired, irritated and hot when we arrived here. But as soon as we were booked in and settled in our rooms we were stunned by the silence and beauty of this part of Namibia. After dinner we spoke to the owner and he assured us we need to see Sossusvlei .... So early the next day we were ready for the dunes....! On our return our rooms were freshen up and new towels were in place. The food was the best we had on our entire trip through Namibia! Every evening and morning at breakfast the owner was there and the staff were friendly and helpful. I recommend this lodge highly! Thanks Betesda lodge!

We camped here for one night, the property is beautifully located between the mountains. Great scenery! The ablution blocks are a bit old, but the water is warm and the room is heated. Swimming pool is tiny and was very dirty when we visited... We wanted to do a quad tour, but it was not possible because the guide was not there...

Camping areas are set walking distance away from the main lodge. Each spot set under beautiful, old acacia tree - if they could only tell their stories of the seasons gone by! I love trees, so it's a pure delight to sit in the evening and late at night by the fire, under their lovely branches. You can listen to jackals calling each other in the distance and in the early morning flocks of sand grouse make most incredible songs! Scenic view from camping grounds is stunning! Especially in favorable, rainy seasons when rainbows and sunlight paint most amazing images in the clouds. Campground is clean, natural and simple. Bathrooms/toilets are neatly kept. There is hot water for a good shower after the day in the desert! Garbage and braai (barbacue) area is cleaned every day. Lodge is comfortably situated just a scenic-drive-away from the main gate to Sossusvlei and Sesriem.

The staff are helpful and pleasant. The rooms are clean, functional with little terraces. The grounds are very well maintained and attractive. The only problem was the food. A limited lunch offer included something called "chicken roll". This is another way of saying "mechanically recovered chicken with added water and gelatine".

Dinner was staggering. Prisoners in Guatemalan jails would expect better. The menu promised roast chicken or lamb stew. It was the first time I've ever been embarrassed on a cook's behalf. Her budget per head must have been tiny for the chicken available amounted to the four smallest chicken legs I've ever seen. Opting instead for the lamb stew the only bits of the sacrificed animal on the plate were fat and bone.

From the management's point of view it is a real false economy. We can't have been the first to have booked in for two nights and then decided we couldn't face a second dinner like that. If they sort out their catering it could be a very pleasant stopover.

I gave this lodge only two stars because of how pricey it is for what is offered! For 4 people, our overnight stay came out to about 80€ per person, sharing a very hot and very basic motel-style room. The staff was nice enough and there is a nice pool, but 320€ is on par with NYC prices!

It's true that breakfast and dinner are included. But, as someone else noted, there is surely no chef, so warmed up frozen veggies, incredibly basic salad fixings and two meat choices plus rice were the extent of the buffet. The appetizer that night was... Cold fishsticks with some sort of vinaigrette (I kid you not) and the desert was pudding from a dry mix package, no doubt.

For what we paid, I definitely expect more, either better food, or a better room. We paid less at other establishments for much nicer accomodations and cuisine. The place feels a bit tired and musty, it could use a breath of fresh air!
