Absolute wonderful location and great staff. Highly recommended for travelling around Kafue Park in Zambia. hippos, elephants and leopard. Good chance to spot all in the camp or around. Make a fishing trip on the river at sunset.

Kafue is a beautiful area - still recovering from the poaching era. It is however well worth a visit. The Rangers we had were a privilege to be with- very knowledgeable and courteous. Loved every minute in the bush.
The Lodge was over sold and the Management clearly under perform.
The Bush camp in the North was a highlight. The tented accommodation great, the staff were very helpful. The Camp was managed by a young lady called Cas who was a joy- nothing was too much trouble and she was involved in all aspects of running the camp with her staff - which showed in the level of service and attitude to guests. This camp made our Kafue experience.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Many thanks for your feedback and kind words about our Busanga Camp and your overall enjoyment of the Kafue and our guides. We are saddened that your experience at Mukambi did not live up to your expectations and would like to apologise for any poor service you might have received. We appreciate your feedback as we continuously strive to improve our standards and require the input of our clients in order to achieve this.

Trip Advisor kindly allows us to respond to postings and we would like to take this opportunity to point out the fantastic synergy we have created between the 2 camps to give our clients the best of both worlds. Mukambi is a busy 3 star lodge with over 35 beds located so conveniently within the Kafue that we are able to offer road transfers instead of the incredibly expensive alternative of a charter flight. We operate 12 months of the year and are therefore able to extend to our clients a low rate compared to most remote and smaller camps.

Busanga, on the other hand, is intimate, upmarket, is set in a fantastically remote part of the Kafue, has 8 beds and operates only 4 months of the year. As a result it is priced higher than Mukambi.

It is this comfortably synergy between the 2 camps that makes visiting the Kafue and the coveted Busanga Plains the most affordable package on the market. In 2012 we built state of the art accommodation at Mukambi mostly for our Busanga clients to give them a more exclusive (and upmarket) experience at Mukambi. We feel that the many positive Trip Advisor comments we receive is testimony to the fact that this accommodation is easily 4 or more star.

Having said all of this, we are mortified we have fallen short of our normally high standards at Mukambi, with service and food nearly always receiving the highest commendations from our clients both on Trip Advisor as well as through our guest questionnaires.

Once again, our sincerest apologies and hope to see you back in the Kafue!

Warm Regards
The Mukambi Team

We realy enjoyed our stay, the lodge gives you a feel of home on a very high standard. The staff is so friendly and well trained, the managers are helpful. You feel the vipe of Africa. We will definitely come back and try to stay for a longer time. The best accommodation is definitely the Villa with the amazing veranda at the Kafue River. We saw so many animals just from our veranda it will be unforgetable for us.

Room Tip: Choose the Villa

A month too late but definitely a must write about our stay at Mukambi. We didn't have much time and planned a week's trip to the Kafue National Park opting to stay at Mukambi. Heather helped us plan our trip well and we used the Mukambi lodge more as a base to visit their sister lodge - the Busanga Plains camp (which I believe deserves an exclusive page for itself!).

Mukambi itself was wonderful and relaxed and we had a tent overlooking the river. Loved the tent and the view, only thing I missed was perhaps a fan for the afternoons when it can get really really warm. The lodge staff are warm and welcoming including Basil. Linda has a personal approach to guests and did not hesitate in taking us on an unplanned drive down the road to check out some leopards that were sighted.

Our 5+ hours drive to the Busanga Plain Camp was wonderful despite several encounters with the tse tse fly!! Lions on the way and in the plains broke our lion jinx! The plains camp run by Caz made our trip possibly one of best travels in Africa. The tents in the camp are comfortable and the views of the sprawling plains are spectacular. Caz and her team made our stay memorable and the food at the Plains Camp was way superior to most other camps we have been to. Lex, our guide was very knowledgeable and good company through our drives through the plains on what can only be a termed a lion fest.

Thanks for the wonderful stay and experience.

Room Tip: The tents at the main lodge are nicer than the chalets.

My wife and I drove down from Solwezi to the Kabanga gate at the Northern end of the park, which was a challenge. I had received conflicting reports on this route but as I drive a Prado RX I decided to go for it and have some fun. The road is good to Kasempa but deteriorates from there, a compass and mileage guide are imperative as there are no sign posts. The last 15 km before the park gate are a nightmare and low gear is needed for most part, which takes an hour through the thick powdery sand and many pot holes. Once we hit the park it was much easier going but you need to keep an eye on the compass and your mileage. We entered the park at midday and it was 39 degrees so all we got to see was some antelope and a few water fowl along the rivers edge. After missing a turn off the Moshi Rd we ended up at Lufupa camp which cost us about half an hour to get back to the Moshi road. We finally got to the Kafue river bridge after a solid 10 hour drive which I would not recommend in any vehicle other than a powerful, high suspension 4x4.

Although I am from the bush and spent enough years of my life as a foot soldier, roughing it during the Rhodesian bush war, I enjoy the comforts of home when Im back in the bush so I booked the family villa for my wife and I and we were not disappointed. We each had our own bathroom with plenty hot water and own space. The Villa has two large rooms and a common lounge leading onto a private timber deck overlooking the Kafue river. The master bedroom has a King size bed and all of this is under thatch and connected to the camp generator. These luxuries were well worth the additional cost for the Villa and are a welcome site when returning from a hot day in the bush.
We went on a sunlight cruise and walking safari and received a complimentary midday cruise as well. I did not take any of the drives as we were in our own vehicle. The meals were excellent and Saturday evening we had a tradional braai around the pool with a full house of guests.
As a keen sportsman and rugby supporter I had the pleasure of being invited to Jaques and Linda's home to watch the Boks play Aus on Sat afternoon and my wife and I were made to feel at home, whilst Basil the wild hippoe wallowed in the pool built for him by the Team, right in front of Linda's terrace. We were lucky enough to see a pair of leopards (extremely rare siting) on a kill and then got up close to the same pair the next day after they had been feeding all night. We had to high tail it from an angry bull elephant and came across a herd of 300 plus buffalo.

I found the service to be professional and personal, with very polite and well trained staff in the dining areas. Our check in and check out was efficient and fast, the villa was superbly serviced at all times during the three nights we spent there.

I would like to mention a few outstanding personnel who helped us enjoy our stay :

Linda and Jaques are an asset to the lodge and treat it like their own home.
Heather is up there with the best and is never far away when needed
Purity the concierge is pleasant and helpful and always on the go.
Hastings the guide has amazing knowledge and was an inspiration on our walking safari
Clements the park ranger was silent and professional in the back ground but instilled confidence with the way he kept guard during our walking safari.
But my man of the match goes to our river cruise guide, Fraser who has eyes like an eagle and helped me as a seasoned birder to get 16 new bird sitings to take my total to 312 Southern African birds.
We will most definitely be back

PS bit of advise to management would be to remove kitchen service area from pool area, as a planted screen is not enough for guests to feel comfortable.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and take the Villa like we did, it's well worth it

We only stayed here for one night and wished we'd been here for a lot longer! We were in one of the tents - which can only be described as amazing - definitely 'glamping'! Our room overlooked the river with a deck which not only had a couple of comfy chairs but also a bath...quite a surreal experience bathing while listening to the hippos 'laughing'...
We went on a game drive which turned out to be quite something - we saw two leopards, a large male lion and a herd of elephants drinking at a watering hole. Very worthwhile - it was quite cold as it was early and they give you ponchos which kept us warm, as well as stopping for a morning coffee half way during the trip.
The food was super and everyone was very helpful and friendly - we'd recommend this as an excellent base for exploring Kafue.

Room Tip: Go for a tent overlooking the river.

We used Mukambi as a ‘base’ to work from during our visit to the North & South Kafue as well as Busanga Plains. On each of the 4 occasions that we returned to Mukambi we found the staff to be very welcoming, attentive, polite & obliging and their hospitality was excellent. An outstanding lodge, well managed by Linda, Jacques & Heather!
Our three night stay at Busanga Plains camp was the absolute highlight of our trip. The staff were outstanding as was the tented accommodation and food. The guided game viewing was absolutely unbelievable.
