“A relaxing getaway from City”
Reviewed 11 February 2014

Visited the lodge during the off peak season, so didn't go there for game viewing, but for some rest and relaxation.
I was booked in the tented chalets with a good view of the river right from your bed. Since they have an outdoor bathtub on the deck right above the river banks, so can sit outside in your birthday suit because the deck is well concealed and private- very wild experience indeed!!!
The bed is so cozy and comfortable, it was hard to decide whether to go outside and enjoy the view or just stay in bed. The room was kept clean, large enough and airy, equipped with mosquito sprays and repellants.
The food is great, especially the dinners- I fully enjoyed their steaks and vegetable chowder. The ambiance in the lounge area and dining is very 'romantic' in the evening as most of the public area are lit by candles or lamps- the lodge is powered by genset, so alternative sources of light and heating are used.
'Buzzle' the hippo came to visit the lodge, and we were offered on free ride on an electric powered land rover- my very first time! the boat cruise was also nice. I didn't go on a game drive, but got to see some warthogs, impala, hippos and fox around the lodge.
The staff are knowledgeable, polite and friendly.
its definitely the place to visit if you want some outdoor fun or simply a quiet and relaxing place to unwind and getaway.
Can't wait to visit again, and hopefully next time I can visit with a special someone and of course exploit the activities offered by the lodge.

Room Tip: Rooms are at the bushcamp are at the river banks and newly renovated. they also have an outdoor bath...

My friend and I recently spent a few nights at Mukambi Safari Lodge. Living in Zambia I have visited many game parks in many part of Africa over many years. Mukambi Lodge was exceptionally good. Great food, very very comfortable accommodation and splendid game viewing. It is very high on my list of places to re visit.

Dear Sir,

Many thanks for your comments and we are saddened by the fact your experience in the Kafue wasn’t up to your expectations compared to other parts of Africa. We are also heart-sore that during your stay with us you joined none of our game drives within the park so that we could show you what a truly special park the Kafue actually is. I am sure you would have enjoyed it as much as your boat trip and drive on our eLandy.

The Kafue is most certainly in its fledgling stages of competitive tourism but it is as wild as you can get – it is very seldom you will come across another game drive vehicle sharing sightings or routes. Animal sightings, in particular the cats, are excellent, even at this time of year. If you remember correctly other clients overnighting at the time saw both leopard and lions languishing in the trees! You can view the photos on our Facebook.

Indeed, during summer, with the rains at its peak, the routes are limited much like the Okavango or even South Luangwa. Our proximity to the main road makes us a sought after destination as many lodges in Zambia close at this time of year. The road is tar all the way from Lusaka and I am sure you will agree it is an easy 3.5 hour drive (an hour of which is through the park).

We would be truly delighted if you would consider visiting us again in the winter months to see a totally different side to the Kafue. Perhaps if you have some extra time on your hands you could visit our camp on the Busanga Plains as this is an incredibly unique part of Africa!

Regards

My family took a trip just after the new year and what we found was beyond our expected. The game drive and boat cruise were just great! My kids were not very happy with the imposed 'night curfew'....of course it is for good reasons! A great destination to unwind!

We stayed for 4 nights in Mukambi in November after a selfdrive trip through Zambia. We stayed in a luxury tent overviewing the river. After 2 weeks driving on bumpy roads this was just what we needed. The tents are very luxurious with the most comfortable beds in Zambia! Sitting on the balcony with a bathtub we enjoyed the sounds of the wildlife and the birds just sitting in front of us. The lodge is very beautiful situated on the bench of the river with a very beautiful poolarea to relax after a gamedrive. Linda and her staff are doing a great job and the meals are very tasty. Our guide Newton was very enthousiastic and improvised if needed. We were supposed to do a afternooncruise on the river but he heard about a male lion that was spotted in the neighboorhood so we left the boat, jumped on a car and found the lion. Perfectly lying in the shadow. Awesome! After that we returned to the boat and went on with our boattrip. We saw a beautiful sunset and enjoyed the silense of the river. The lodge on the Busanga Plains was closed because of the end of season. But next time we will come back and stay on the Busanga Plains!

Room Tip: Choose to stay in a luxury tent overviewing the river

I am a Canadian who frequently visits for work Zambia. In early December 2013 I had the pleasure of 2 nights at Mukambi Lodge. We were immediately on arrival greeted by management. The main lodge ( dining, bar, observation deck, lounge etc) was excellent overlooking the Kafue River. The "luxury" cabin was fantastic. The morning game drive was fantastic with Lion, Lioness, elephant, impala. Kudu, Hippo, zebra etc..
I will definitely recommend to anyone, and will definitely return as soon as I can.
Staff and management were tremendous - knowledgeable and very pleasant !

Many thanks for your lovely review! We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Many travellers fear visiting the Kafue in the Emerald Season but sightings are fantastic at this time of year and your review is testament to this.

We hope to welcome you back soon
