Lion Camp Safari Lodge

Lion Camp is not only a beautiful place to stay, but its location for viewing game is hard to beat. In three days we saw everything from leopards to porcupines. As well as game drives, we did a walking safari which we would highly recommend. Our guides Paul and Isaac never ceased to amaze us with their knowledge and ability even at night, to spot animals.
The Lodge itself is stunning, photos just don't do it justice. Having dinner at a beautifully decorated table swapping stories with other guests and guides, was just so special.
Thank you to the great staff particularly Emma and Rob, who were wonderful hosts and great company.
Want to go back!

We stayed at Lion Camp for 5 nights in July 2013. We had decided before coming to Zambia that we were going to get married whilst there in a quiet ceremony.
Our stay at Lion Camp surpassed all our expectations. The staff were amazing and attentive and our guides (Isaac, Hendrix, Paul, Moses and Warden Batwell) were knowledgeable and passionate about what they do.
Our hosts; Louise, Emma, Corrie and Rob were superb and helped make our holiday and our wedding day unforgettable.
We did day drives and night drives and a walking safari (which we'd definitely recommend!). From the dining table in the lodge we saw hippos, elephants, crocs, puku, impala, saddle billed storks, fish eagles, and even a leopard!!
On our drives we saw a standoff over a recent kill between a female and male leopard and one night shared our sundowners with a couple of hyena! It certainly is a fitting name; we saw a 15 strong pride of lions one night and a different pride the next! Our guides were always patient and respectful of the animals, and helped us get close to the animals without ever bothering them.
We were also lucky enough to spot a honey badger one night and then two the next!
On our wedding day the entire ceremony was organised by Lion Camp with a few decisions made by us (colour of flowers, choice of cake..). We were overwhelmed by the efforts of all the staff on the day from Emma, Gavin, Louise and Corrie taking photos, to the special menu and all the flowers and balloons. They also arranged for a local pastor to come to the camp so we could have our ceremony by the river (and hippos!). In the morning Lion Camp even organised a bush breakfast for us (complete with marmite on toast)!
They joined in our special day and filled it with laughter and singing!
We could not speak highly enough of Lion Camp and would thoroughly recommend anyone visiting South Luangwa National Park to make time for a stay here!

This is the second time we have visited Lion Camp and this time we came for 6 nights. The game viewings were incredible and every day we saw regular sightings of Leopards and Lions and their kills. Emma, you have trained your staff incredibly well, their knowledge of the local environment, birds and wildlife is phenomenal and everyone has a genuine interest is making sure that every guest is catered for in every possible way. It's like having your own personal safari guide and team, all eager and enthusiastic to let you experience the absolute unspoilt and pristine environment that this lodge is surrounded by. We would often go out and never see another vehicle. We would watch kills, with usually just our vehicle and our trusted guide Hendrix. We would all keep absolutely still as Lions and Leopards would walk by just a few feet away. They would look at you and pass by, the atmosphere electric with excitement.

After the adrenal rush, it would be back to the lodge for a glass of wine (or two) and a sumptuous 3 course feast fit for a king.

A special thanks to Louise (front of house) the guides and wardens, the staff serving the drinks and food and to everyone who we never see, but are all working behinds the scenes to give you an adventure and holiday of a lifetime.

Thanks everyone

Martin & Julie

This is a lovely camp and is not close to others so there are very few other vehicles about. The game viewing was excellent and we were lucky to see both lion and leopard.
The camp is very comfortable and the food excellent. Emma, the manager is a wonderful host and nothing is too much trouble. She has an excellent team and they all work together to ensure that the guests have a great experience.

Three days in the northern part of the South Luangwa is all you need to see just about everything except wild dogs. Fantastic game, and this lodge is a great base. Couldn't fault them on food or service, and the guiding was excellent.

Five evenings at Lion Camp were spent as a welcome guest in quietly luxurious surroundings. The wildlife viewing was outstanding e.g. leopard, lion hunt, being matched by the Guides knowledge of even the smallest insect or blade of grass. The food was absolutely first class with entertaining dinner conversation. Swimming in the pool in midwinter was another treat. And just after our sun downers the vast African night sky showed off her constellations. A life enhancing experience.

We had already enjoyed five great days in Zambia when we arrived at the Lion Camp for the final three nights of our trip. Definitely the right place to end on a high note!

The location is fabulous, nearly 2 hours into the National Park, which meant we had a 'game drive' on our way in from the airport and saw very few vehicles during our stay. The main lodge area and the chalets were lovely; spacious and comfortable with bright splashes of color. The little touches made the difference between a 'very good' stay and an 'excellent' stay.

We had some fabulous encounters with lions (of course!), elephants, hippos in the lagoon outside our room, hyenas, and even a exciting spy of a leopard going after a baboon in a tree! Hendrix was a great guide, his knowledge of the area, the animals, and the birds was amazing. All the lodge staff was wonderful, from Emma to Isaac, Rob, and Musamba, and everyone else. It was a pleasure to speak with them over meals, as well as to meet the others guests from around the globe.

The Lion Camp was highly recommended to us by Aardvark Safaris, and it did not disappoint. My husband and I were traveling with our two daughters, 17 & 19, and my father and the safari thrilled us all. We are already discussing "our next trip" to Lion Camp. We have lived on four different continents and done quite a bit of travel, but our time in Zambia and at the Lion Camp was truly "the trip of a lifetime"! Thank you Lion Camp for the amazing safari experience for all three generations!
