Marula Lodge is a very relaxing and comfortable place to stay, and is basically at the entrace to the game park. It was recommended to me when I arrived in Zambia and it has never disappointed. They provide great facilities and service, while remain friendly and down to earth. I worked for 6 months in Zambia and always stayed here when I went to South Luangwa. It has a swimming pool, a lovely range of seats/hammocks with views of the river and flexible safari game drive options. The both the tents and rooms have comfortable beds and insect netting. I think the best feature is a lovely shower block that is set up under a tree - you can have a private hot shower looking at the sky with blossoms falling at your feet - i used them even when I stayed in a room with an ensuite! The other highlight are the aminals that wander through the site - elphants, hippos, monkeys. Its a great place to unwide, and a good base for game drives/safaris.

Room Tip: Tents are by the river and have beds (not camp beds but real beds) - very comfortable and you are ab...

It's a fantastic place with very friendly owners who really looked after me. I was travelling on my own after a month of hard work in Lusaka and I really felt like I was visiting friends. Ideal place to chill with views to the river and with a swimming pool! The game drives were great and David the guide super knowledgeable, just ask him any question!
I would definitely go back again and highly recommend it

We arrived hot and tired from a long minibus ride and were greeted with a smile and cold drink.
It was early Sept and perfect weather. Mike and Jenny and their team are lovely and our stay was so good we were there 6 days instead of the planned 3. Lots of animals including hippos and elephants walking in the lodge grounds. Comfortable, clean place with seats on the riverbank to watch the wildlife including crocs. You cant walk outside the lodge because of the animals but Mike or Jenny would give a lift to the nearby small town and the lift was like a safari ride with many giraffe sightings. In our one year world tour arula Lodge was a highlight

We had a wonderful 4 days in south luangwa. Jenny and mike were very friendly. The food was excellent. The garden was lovely. And the trips were very good. The guids knows a lot from the animals in the park. All the animals we hoped to see, we have seen!

This was a deeply refreshing time. The lodge is very comfortable with a communal eating area. We were welcomed with a refreshing drink overlooking the Luanga river, alive with animals and birds. Jenny and Mike are excellent and interested hosts, making guests feel personally welcome and included. The staff are all very helpful.

David Tembo is a very knowledgeable safari guide, who led our game drives. Each was around 30 Km, going deep into the reserve. We saw four of the big five, many other animals, and 73 species of birds. David's knowledge is huge, including details showing the inter-relationship of the animals and their environment. A crocodile attacking giraffes at a waterhole reminded us that this was the wild. David's instinctive understanding of the animals led to us seeing a leopard drop down from a tree by us, to drink in the afternoon.

The lodge is spaciously laid out, with a small pool to cool off in, and plenty of space to sit and just "be".Mike and Jenny are always around, and interested in what we have seen. They also play an important part in the local community, with employment and conservation involvement. Mike took me out to local salt flats to see a flock of grey crowned cranes before we left - a special bonus from a lodge that clearly loves its work. It gives a glimpse of the wonder of creation!

We visited Marula lodge in August and had a great time. Mike and Jenny provided a very personalized experience and made for a highlight of our African safari vacation. The support staff and food was excellent. We went on safari drives in the morning and evenings and relaxed during the day. You can sit overlooking the river and watch hippos, elephants and crocs in the river. The communication with Jenny prior to arriving was great as we booked this directly through the lodge. Overall great experience and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: I would get a 'hard sided cabin' vs. a tent if you have any fears of wild animals. The eleph...

Lovely proprietors, excellent guides and a magnificent view of the river. Elephants and hippos come visiting in the garden, and the park as such is full of exciting experiences. The guides are very knowledgeable, so don't forget asking about the smaller animals, birds and plants despite the excitement overklig the big five. And don't miss the old Baobab tree who has been watching over the animals for hundreds of years!
