Bilimungwe was our first experience of a real bush camp and our 3 nights there (about right) proved to be a pleasant surprise. The lodges were superb (5star facilities on stilts) with a water hole for the animals just outside the door. The food was some of the best we have had in any hotel, everything being homemade including the cakes for tea and refreshments out on safari. The bread made great toast! Our waiter was quietly efficient and the company was lively and relaxing. Simon, the camp manager, was keen that everyone had and did everything that they wanted. Charles was an excellent guide and we particularly enjoyed our morning river walking safari with him as this was what we especially wanted to do. The elephant family were frequent visitors to the waterhole both for a drink and a shower, and along with the baboons they tucked into a lunch of nile cabbage! Visiting in September there was plenty of activity at all the watering places as this is the dry season. Giraffes were in abundance too.
The thing we liked least was the feeling of isolation during the hours of darkness in the cabin as there was no method of communicating with staff. A medical emergency could have been a challenge.More
