We were fortunate to stay at Nkwali for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay with great hosts Greg and Chloe and their amazing staff. Position by the river is unbeatable as was the delicious food. Guides were brilliant and the different landscapes were amazing.

I had a few excellent days in Nkwali Camp. I felt very welcome and really enjoyed my stay here. Seen a lot of game, and got a lot of information about the wildlife from the very knowledgeable guides. The food was great. It was very nice to eat with the staff and get to know more about the camp and RPS. Also very nice if you are on a solo trip.

we had a brilliant couple of days here.....stafff brilliant....animals from the very large to the very tiny.....fantastic...cannot fault anything...well apart from only being there for two days. favourite moments were when i met a baboon in my room. he was casually reclining on the bed..we eyed each other for a while and when i pointed out that i didnt think he should be there he gave a kind on nod and left...a very surreal moment!..also the enormous black spider on the curtain i got my very brave partner to get rid...using a basket and a magazine he was removed...who needs a gun :)

Very comfortable chalets which are completely open to the river during daytime. Exceptional service. Wendy was a very good hostess and the team are most attentive. Fantastic food - creative, healthy, local. Good wine. Very nice to have the guides join us for meals. The best game rangers I have ever come across - thanks especially to Kanga and Julius, our guides, you wowed us with your extensive knowledge. The park is spectacular this time of year, especially for those interested in birds. I cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: rooms on the river have the best view. obviously :)

Ending our trip in Luangwa here allowed us the view 3 of Robin's camps in close sequence finding each had a different feel and experience accentuated by both the environment & nature of the camp and staff.
The rooms at Nkwali were wonderful being fully open to the river, eating was undertaken on a dias away from the river with a slightly disconcerting (at first) moving log that acted as the serving platform and the bar being (for us) the feature of the camp overlooking the river and providing a wonderful area for RnR in the few spare hours you had during the day.
The drives undertaken after a short boat ride all proved stimulating made eloquent and bought to life by Kanga which combined with Wendy's attention at the camp made the whole experience a seamless journey through the various day parts and one that whilst different from the other camps in the valley fully delivered the experience of Zambia.

The Luangwa Valley is not necessarily the easiest place to take 3 young children (6-10 years) - but Robin's House at Nkwali is a great option. It is separate from the main lodge and you have your own dedicated guide/driver and vehicle so your timetable is at your own discretion. There is a small plunge pool as well far enough away from the main camp not to worry about disturbing other guests.

Service is attentive but not intrusive. The house is plenty spacious and well designed for the heat in September - both indoors and outdoors were good seating areas. As expected so far from a supermarket, the food was simple, but it was always freshly prepared and very edible.

The guide was well trained and professional, good with the kids but the game was a bit shy on our visit. This was partly made up for by meeting a family of lion as we left the lodge for the airport.

My husband and I just returned from 4 nights at the breathtakingly beautiful Nkwali Camp and I highly recommend this camp, and the overall experience - it was spectacular.

We travel often in Africa and have stayed at numerous camps, but there is something incredibly magical about Nkwali. The Camp is so restful and comfortable and the staff there are so friendly and accommodating. We met Daudi, Nyambe, Jeff, Amos, Jonathan, Thomas and our hysterically funny guide, Fred. He made each game drive a treat and we laughed our heads off at his antics and his sense of humour.

The camp is beautifully appointed and has wonderful open spaces, with a gorgeous swimming pool. Whilst we lay there a herd of elephants came down to the lagoon to drink in front of us and this was just one of the very special sightings we had whilst staying there.

The food is incredible and I love that they time their lunches early (11h30), so you have plenty siesta or resting time before the game drives at 16h00.

I really loved our stay and was very sad to leave. We had the most amazing experience there, with memories to treasure forever.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Many places claim to be "among the remaining wilderness areas" or "one of the last wildlife sanctuaries"; South Luangwa National Park lives up to both and more. The Luangwa Valley is vast, remote and home to both people and a truly impressive variety of game. The South Luangwa Park is 9050 sq. kilometer; with the river, its tributaries and the riverine strips being the focus of the wildlife viewing. There are diverse habitats, from huge ox bow lagoons of varying stages of maturity, woodlands, ebony groves, grassland and thickets, that host a great variety of wildlife. The birdlife is also excellent with over 450 species to be seen. Nkwali is located on the banks of the Luangwa on a magnificent meander in the river overlooking the National Park where leopards roam along the bank and can often be spotted from camp. Situated on Robin Pope Safaris’ private land outside the park there is a private game viewing area behind camp as well as exclusive access into the park either by boat or across the pontoon. The six chalets with bamboo woven walls and thatch roofs offer a rustic luxury opening up to magnificent views of the river as well as open air en-suite bathrooms. Nkwali offers understated elegance, seclusion and superb service. Nkwali is dominated by an enormous ebony tree around which the bar is moulded. It is this tree which, when Robin and Jo Pope found it cemented the location of the camp. From the bar deck cantilevered over the river a cool drink can be enjoyed whilst watching the sun set over the Luangwa. The six chalets are spacious and during the day are fully open to wonderful river views, in the evenings the Constantia grill doors are pulled together to close the open room fronts. The en-suite bathrooms are spacious with double sinks and showers from which you can enjoy the enormous African skies. Set back from the river on a lagoon are the dining room and swimming pool from which guests are often treated to elephants and other game coming down to drink during the day unperturbed by our presence. ... more   less
