“5* safari”
Reviewed 3 October 2012

It was my third visit, to SLNP this time with 3 childhood friends. The rooms and service has gotten even better. The whole complement of staff, looked after us the whole way from bookings, room service, waiters, senior staff, including our dietry requiremnts (halaal).
The game drives were superb, with Ian, and later with Kelvin. Their knowledge was extensive in all aspects of flora and fauna, would have loved to spend more time with them.
Was a bit dissapointed that the guides did not have their meals with us, as was the case on my previous visits, as would have really enjoyed thier company and knowledge.
Highlight George, the male elephant visited, the lodge, saw him from a mere two meters close, and never felt threatened, amazing....
Thanks to all who made our safari 5*
Saving up to visit once again.

Room Tip: for roo deck viewing the rooms left of the pool are ideal.

Every minute of our stay was perfect. Each staff member was warm, engaging and engaged. I was amazed that from the first meeting each staff member I interacted with remembered my name. 2 game drives every day with the same guide, Onatious. His knowledge of everything and anything, didn't matter if it was flora, fauna or just a plain old rock was impressive. Our chalet was private and luscious. We opted to skip one game drive and enjoy our chalet and saw nearly as much game from our deck as we had on our drives. Aside from superb service I think one of the Lodge's over riding objectives is that guests must be fed well & often. In addition to the customary breakfast, lunch and dinner there was coffee, tea and biscuits mid-morning game drive, afternoon tea and more beverages and treats during afternoon to evening game drive. A terrific, over all experience. We would return in a heart beat

Room Tip: I don't think there could possibly be a bad one

I have spent 20 years traveling throughout Southern Africa and have at some point worked professionally as a Zoologist so, my expectations of the staff/guides/game viewing and what is offered at various camps are high. Also, for many years I have had to consider the 'budget' and would not have necessarily looked at safari ventures such as The Bushcamp Company.

I have had my notion of what makes a great safari reshaped by my extraordinary experience in the Luangwa Valley. I stayed for two nights in Kampamba Camp, two nights in Bilimungwe Camp and finally two nights in Mfuwe Lodge. The staff were friendly and generous to a point, the accommodation was first class and the food exceptional. The early morning bush walks were brilliantly lead and the guides kept a constant dialogue, balancing the aesthetic appeal of the bush with the scientific in flawless English.

The experience was heightened by close encounters with lion, leopard and wild dog(!) and the care with which the guides took to meet the the requests of the clients and respect for the fauna and flora was utterly professional. The guides joined the clients for supper and the bush-talk continued!

The great advantage of paying more for an all-inclusive package is that many smaller operations often cost the same when all the activities have been added to the food/lodging/transfers. I was travelling solo on this trip but I can't wait to return with friends and family in tow!

Both my wife and I had a wonderful time and enjoyed one of our best holiday experiences.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful which made our stay extremely enjoyable.
All the fascilities were of a high standard. The meals were varied and brilliant.

I would like to make special mention to our guide Kelvin who took us out in his truck to see the animals each morning and night. Kelvin was professional, incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly and courteous. I felt his work with us and the other people in our truck each time was first class and needed to be recognised and acknowledged.

A beautiful lodge with great hospitality. The staff is friendly and genuinely concerned that your stay be perfect from game drives, sleeping comfort, dining experiences and relaxation time. Dining is a treat with a variety of dining experiences. South Luwangwa National Park is beautiful with wonderful sights and wildlife. From the lodge deck or from your room deck you can enjoy watching animals in the riverbed below the lodge. Elephants, giraffe, antelope, hippos, baboons and monkeys are common sights. An unforgettable experience!

I travelled with my husband, our daughter, her fiance and his mother- two Zambians in love with Mfuwe for many years - to Sth Luangwa National Park staying with The Bushcamp Company at both the Mfuwe Lodge and two of the bushcamps. The Lodge was the most extravagant resort experience with elements that could only be found in this magnificent place. 5 star service, superb food and the surreal experience of listening to the sounds of hippos in the lagoon from our chalet.

Then came the bushcamps. Firstly to Bilimungwe . Sitting on the verandah of our magical 'bush hut' we were viewing elephants, warthogs, puku and beautiful birds drinking from the lagoon in front of us just metres away: the stuff of fantasy. Imagine experiencing this as well from the outdoor shower in the beautiful of weather of June.

At Zungulila we were in our truly enchanting 'tent' looking out across the Kapamba River and soaking up the atmosphere of indulgence and rustic pleasure of the common areas...and listening to the roar of a male lion in the distance. Words can not describe the magic of this place and sense of romance at being in such a place. The ultimate dream of relaxation and being away from it all.

Combine all this with the thrill of seeing the magnificent safari animals in their natural habitat and the astounding knowledge of our guide Steve, not only knowledgeable but a wonderful person to spend our eight days with at Mfwue. Thankyou to Kirit for organising this trip and to Andy and the Bushcamp company for their wonderful hospitality.

We came three years ago and fell in love with every aspect of the lodge, staff, game drives and of course the animals. Last year we had to bring relative. This year it was our grown children and a spouse. Each year it just got better. Having lived in Africa most of our lives, we have been in many parks and this is one of the best. We have never seen the leopards the way we do in this park. Just an oustanding experience.

David & Lori

Room Tip: If you like hippos go for the lagoon side. If you want to see other animals go for the dryer side
