“My first bush camp experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2013

Chindeni was our first bush camp stop--for four nights. It is impossible to describe how much we loved every aspect of the experience. The "tent" was five star--the views of the animals and water excellent. The quiet was remarkable. The staff were excellent. We began the bush walks here--our guide, Manda, was unbelievable as were Matthew and Mike (scout and tracker). In fact, Manda is the best I have ever had as a guide anywhere. Food definitely 5 star.

Room Tip: There are now bad rooms.

We stayed at the Chindeni Bushcamp for 4 nights the first of June 2013. The accommodations were extraordinary, (including the outside shower) and the location was superb. While the accommodations were great they were nothing compared to the staff. James was in charge of the staff and they all went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. Then did I mention the animals? We saw leopards, we saw tons (literally) of elephants and hundreds of other animals. For the birders, we also saw a Pel's Fishing Owl which I am told is one of the 10 most sought after birds in the world. Our guide was Manda who was International guide of the year in 2006 and no matter how good he was then, he has gotten better.

Room Tip: There are only 4 tents to choose from. Ours was the one on the small watering hole where the elepha...

I spent two fantastic nights at Chindeni and loved every minute of it. The accommodation is very comfortable and really well planned with views over the lagoon, I will never forget lying in bed listening to Lions roar. The staff were great, I wanted for nothing during my stay. The bush walks were incredible, having such a knowledgably guide made everything so interesting. I was lucky enough to see Wild Dogs all thanks to Manda seeing some vultures in the distance and knowing something was going on. Staying here was one of the best experiences I had during my travels in Africa.

Chendeni was our most rustic camp in our 2 weeks in Botswana and Zambia. The 2.5 hour drive from the main lodge was enough to make you feel the rest of the world had melted away.
We spent 4 nights, and frankly the solar lighted and wind-blown lanterns left it very dark at night, but after the first night all was good.
James was the manager at the time, Peter was our guide, as educated a guide as I've experienced.
Lolling around camp midday, in the main area or the tents hammock, was incredibly peaceful and relaxing - observing elephants, all sort of birdlife, hippos, crocs, antelope, chimps, buffalo, warthog, more - while sipping a beer or falling asleep.
Day and night drives were terrific - next camp upstream called us one day that they witnessed a pair of female lions take down a Buffalo and her calf - we got there just at the end for the calf - brutal, but it is what it is. Saw several leopards at night, plus another pride of lions miss a antelope one night but get a warthog the next. Watching the lions approach the antelope (red light lantern) for almost 15 minutes, the silent teamwork, was astounding - yet they missed!
Walking safaris were the most fun, I can now probably identify 20 different kinds of dung! :)
Camp was as laid back as possible, food was very good given how far from the main lodge this place is. We all made pizzas one lunch. Could improve on the box wine could be my only improvement recommendation. Highly recommended for a real 'camp', non-luxury, experience

Had our first stay in Chendeni in October. Loved the setting -- incredible bird-watching without leaving our tent. Peter is an excellent guide and we had some excellent game viewings. The food was also superb. I recommend it strongly!

Over 3 trips to the Luangwa, cheindeni has always proved to be our go-to camp for spectacular leopard sightings. 4 years ago we were treated to 4 in the same tree - male, female & 2 large sub-adults. This year we had 3 sightings in one day. I wish we had stayed longer as Peter is fantastic and so attentive both in camp and on safari. The tents are perfect, the camp staff are some of the most entertaiing in any of the lodges i've stayed, and the view, well, i dont want to spoil it but it is something special.

Chindeni is located in an incredible position overlooking an oxbow lagoon. The best bits include lying in your hammock on your private deck watching the game go by. Peter the Guide is brilliant. The tents were comfortable and food very good.
