“Glorious location”
Reviewed 15 January 2011

Chindeni is a spectacular bush camp in a glorious location on the banks of the lagoon.

Our tented accommodation was so spacious and superbly fitted out. The tents are set on elevated on platforms with verandas providing excellent viewing points over the lagoon.

Standards of hospitality, guiding and opportunities for game viewing were excellent.

Everyone was so friendly, can’t wait to return.

The camp is in a beautiful location and we received excellent, friendly service and very good food. The camp overlooks a lagoon with hills in the background and at the beginning of the wet season everything was incredibly green and lush. We were there for bird photography, but one of the best sightings was of a leopard resting up a tree. Plenty of elephants and hippos around too, and we could not have asked for more.

We spent two nights at Chindeni; it is in a simply stunning bush setting. It overlooks a lagoon, which in the short time we were there was visited by a huge variety of bird life as well as elephant, hippo, giraffe and baboons.

The gorgeous tents are luxurious and elegantly decorated, and with just six in the camp it feels very exclusive and intimate.

The staff are extremely friendly; Sam even taught us how to play a traditional Zambian game one afternoon out on the deck, and the food is exceptional.

My best memory of this camp was sitting on the veranda in the middle of the day enjoying a drink when everyone else was having a siesta just watching a hawk repeatedly dive down on the lagoon, the camp has such a lovely outlook you could sit all day there without the need to go out on the drives! Our drives were good with a good variety of game including some of the big cats. It was a really lovely time of year to go out with the game all condensed before any of the rains came and also the camps slightly emptier as it was towards the end of the season. I am not sure about how much it would cost so can't comment too much on the value as we paid for a honeymoon package and I suspect this is not the sort of thing we could normally afford but for us it was definitely a holiday of a lifetime. Also the sundowners were amazing, the site with the thousands of Carmine Bee-Eaters diving around on a high river bank is definitely worth requesting if you are there at the right time.

We stayed at Chindeni Bush camp early October after asking for a last minute offer at the reception at Mfuwe Lodge.
The lodge is at a beautiful location on a permanent lagoon, about 3 hours drive south of Mfuwe Lodge. The tents are very spacious and comfortable, the whole camp consists of only 6 tents so is small and intimate.
The staff are all excellent and most accomodating.
Our guide Peter was a pleasure to be with and has a great love for nature and the bush.
The only disappointment was the lack of game. Yes, you will see elephants, hippo but not a great variety of game nor big numbers. During the night drives we saw very little.
The cost of the camp (around $650/night/per person) is way over the top and not good value in our opinion. We paid half that and still thought it was too much for what they
offer.

Our party of 9 (4 couples + our 4 yr old son) stayed for three nights.
Chindeni is a simply magnificent camp with beautiful tents and a stunning lounge / dining deck overlooking a large ox-bow lagoon. It is luxurious in its elegant simplicity. Everything in the camp is comfortable without being pretentiously plush.
The food here was absolutely delicious and each meal seemed to outdo the last in flavour and presentation. Special mention of course needs to be made of the brilliant management and service from all of the staff, especially the camp manager James, and the guides Manda and Ornasious (sorry if I spelt it wrong!) who were also all great company around the table and lounge at meal times.
Game viewing here was incredible with leopards on almost every game drive (day or night) and numerous elephant, giraffe, kudu and buffalo sightings – along with all the other smaller (but in no way lesser) game.
The surprise candlelit dinner for our party on the banks of the river was a nice touch. The Bushcamp Company needs to keep its camps simple and traditional like Chindeni and resist any urge to go down the route of pretentious designer plushiness. Keep the “bush” in the bush camps!

Spent only 2 nights here on honeymoon but wish we could have stayed longer. Traveled through the bushcamp company's Mfuwe Lodge, Kapamba and Chindeni Camps before spending 3 weeks at 6 other safari camps with Wilderness Safaris in Livingstone, the Okavango Delta in Botswana and finally the Namib Desert. We both found Chindeni to be our favourite even though we saw more wildlife in Botswana and more stars in Namibia. It is a much more intimate and personable atmosphere traveling through the Bushcamp Company's series of lodges/tents in the South Luangwa - you really get to know and enjoy your time with the other travelers, managers and guides! The safari's were very raw and Peter was an outstanding guide! We saw 7 different leopards on a single night drive! Fantastic food and fellowship :) The moonrise over the lagoon with the milky way overhead is an indelible memory that will be cherished always! The staff really go our of their way to make your stay and safari a special and personal experience. The paraffin lanterns make this stunningly beautiful camp even more romantic - like something out of a movie :) You have to see it to believe it - pictures do not do it justice!
