Thank you to everyone at Kafunta for making our recent stay there so memorable. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was first rate and the game viewing superb. I cannot rate them highly enough. We will be back.

The service was exceptional nothing but praise for this lodge and staff from the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome and treated special ! our rooms were magnificent and have their own decks that look out over a open plain with Luangwa river in background we often seen Giraffes and elephants , Puki , impalas and water hogs from comfort of room and at night hippos feeding like cows outside our rooms !!! - 4 coarse meals very tasty and varied as one of our party was vegetarian and was well catered for – Game drives were highlight and guide Andrew was exceptional knowledgable …. a surprise was we crossed into the park over the Luangwa River on a pontoon 5 minutes from lodge which offered a more private safari as if a not for busy area of the park as the main gate area of the park was a little traffic with a lot of other lodges in area doing there drives.

I cannot say enough good things about this lodge and we certainly to return to kafunta again but spend more time as our 3 nights were just not enough – thank You all !!

We're delighted to hear you had an enjoyable stay with us and thank you for taking the time to write a recommendation. The staff do try very hard to make sure every guest is made to feel welcome and their stay is special. The pontoon is a great feature of the lodge, giving quick access to the remoter areas of the park away from other vehicles.

A few weeks ago my Husband and I stayed at Kufunta for three nights during our honeymooon. The lodge is set in a beautiful location overlooking the South Luanga river where many animals pass by (giraffe, lions, warthogs, impala, elephants).

The Safaris themselves were outstanding. We had the pleasure of being guided by Josephat whose knowledge and enthusiasm for what he does was incredible and infectious. I have to admit that I was a little nervous before going out the first time having never done a safari before but Josephat put me instantly at ease and at no point did I ever feel in danger. The parks themselves were relatively quiet in terms of other vehicles (and from what we heard from the other guests compared to other safari parks they were empty!) and we got to see all the animals that we set out to and get up close and personal to them in a way that we could never have anticipated.

The food was excellent. I am a vegetarian and often get served what I can only describe as a mixture of side portions but on no occasion did I feel this here. Quality, taste and presentation was incredible. My husband who is a meat eater was equally impressed. We were on a food inclusive package and were worried about the prices of drinks but we really shouldn't have as a glass of wine was approximately £2.50 and a gin and tonic £3!

The overall service that we received from the other members of the camp was also excellent and everyone seemed to go out of their way to make sure that our experience was varied and interesting.

The only negative was the accommodation itself. We should probably point out that we have never been to Africa before and so our expectations may be unduly high but given the amount that we were paying the lodge felt old and in need of an upgrade. We had bats flying around us every night around our bed as well as frogs in the bathroom and other visitors that I wont name which were removed and so the room didn't feel like the luxury it was sold to us as. Again as I said this maybe common in areas such as this regardless of the type of accommodation so we maybe being unreasonable here having not stayed at any other lodges other than Tena Tena but its something people should be aware of.

Overall we had a great time and would love to visit this area of the park again some day (particularly with Josephat guiding!) but I'm not sure if we would choose to stay at this accommodation again unless it had been upgraded.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of Kafunta River Lodge.

We're glad to hear you had an outstanding safari with Josephat. His knowledge of the park and wildlife is truly amazing. As you pointed out the lodge is in a great location for wildlife viewing and gives you ready access to the park where you can have a private safari away from other guests.

It's also great to hear that you thought the service and food were excellent. We're always happy to cater to any guest's dietary requirements as dining under the African stars is all part of the safari experience.

The chalets are built from natural materials and designed to fit in with the environment and allow views of the wildlife on the flood plain in front of the lodge. The wilderness location means that that there are more animals around than in the city. The chalets are secured but the bats are very small and manage to go through the tiniest cracks. Having said that, we will be taking extra measures to keep them out.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us and certainly sounds like the Zambian wildlife really put on a show for you. Watching the animals from the comfort of the deck is a highlight of Kafunta. Thank you for your kind words which I will pass onto the staff and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

South luangwa is amazing and Kafunta is a wonderful place.to stay near the park. Alison, the manager, and the team could not have made our stay more comfortable. Martin, our guide, was fantastic in finding the birds in the park, which was our interest as well as the larger animals having booked through Naturetrek. The food was excellent, the view superb, the chalets beautiful. Cannot recommend this lodge more. We will be back at a different time of year for some Walking in the park.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at Kafunta River Lodge. I know the owner has been in contact with your agent since but let me apologise again that there was an issue with security and rest assured we are conducting a thorough review and will be taking firm action. It's great to hear that you really enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the game viewing and bird watching.
