“Stay at La Casa del Naranjo!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2010

This is a beautiful hotel that truly feels like a home. Our room -- La Ciruella -- was perfectly suited to our needs and very beautiful. We rested there comfortably and slept completely soundly.

The common areas of the hotel are also lovely and we were perfectly comfortable "hanging out" in them. Even doing my Spanish homework by the bar! Breakfast is included and the rates are very reasonable. Food is not available during the day, but the bar is. Don't worry though, there are restaurants, taquierias and everything in between within a block or two.

The locations is very central and relatively easy to find from the highway. We were able to go back and forth from our sightseeing (with shopping bags of course as Querataro is a shoe-store mecca!) throughout the day.

As much as the place is wonderful, it was the people who topped it off for us. Angel is an angel in the kitchen. Try his Chilaquiles with salsa verde. You will not be disappointed! Diana, Rosa and Rosa A are super-friendly and it is lovely to chat with them. Diana and Rosa A speak English as well and are very happy to offer advice, mix a Margarita and help you in any way.

This was my first visit to Queretaro. I know we will be back, and as much as I'm sure there are other great hotels in the city, I simply can't stay anywhere else.

We were on our way to San Miguel de Allende and decided to fly via Queretaro and spend the night there rather than flying via Leon airport. I found La Casa del Naranjo through TripAdvisor. we couldn't have been happier. we were picked up at the airport by Maria, the owner. We got there and were delighted with the ambiance and the design of the B&B and even more, by the frendliness of the staff. Diana, the receptioness is a delight and also gave great service. The interior design of the room, rooftop patio, lobbies and entry were so good that I took over 25 pictures. They were all winners.
Breakfast was vrey good
Diana gave us great ideas for touring the city and for restaurants.
and to top it off, Maria gave us the drive to San Miguel
It was a magic 24 hours in Queretaro

Casa Naranja is a well located B&B in the heart of Queretero. One is instantly struck by the care that has gone into the renovation of this facility. Unfortunately, while it might look great on the pages of Architectural Digest it did not make for a comfortable stay. We had a 2nd floor room with a kng size bed which was placed into a box like structure on the top of the roof. The views outside our room were nice, but only in one direction. The bed was too big for the room. The bathroom had no doors and the toilet was very close to the bed. The tiny sink that seemed an after thought was too small for washing one's hands. The flimsy shower curtain in the shower failed to keep the water in resulting in wet floors in the closet area. The closet was a small poll in the corner. Couldn't even put shoes on the floor as it was often wet. Very ppor water pressure as well. There was no dresser so we were forced to live out of our suitcase for the 5 days we were there. 2nd floor rooms are only accessible by a spiral staircase that was frquently in the dark. Not recommended for persons with vertigo.
They serve breakfast, which must be ordered the night before since they shop daily. Fruit, however, was not always ripe. Preparation was nothing to rave about.
Lucky for us we were travelling with a cousin who is fluent in spanish as her translation services were necessary thoughout the stay. The owner spoke some english, but when she was not around the staff made little effort to try to understand our high school spanish, or allow us to understand their spanish, either.
Was very happy to pack up and leave this place at the end of our trip.

I usually follow tripadvisor recommendations in choosing hotels, but for a recent 3-night stay in Queretaro I decided to take a chance on a new boutique hotel in the Centro. And I'm so glad I did.

The location of Casa Del Naranjo is excellent. It's on the stately and beautiful Hidalgo, a great base for exploring the city, and within a 5-minute walk of the Museo Del Arte and the central plazas of Queretaro. The construction of the hotel, with rooms facing internally, meant that it was also fairly quiet in spite of its central location. We occasionally heard some traffic from the street during the daytime, but we kept the windows open at night, and were awakened only by the bells calling people to the 8am mass.

What makes the hotel truly special is the care its owner has put into the building's renovation and design. The place is gorgeous, adorned with weathered wood and carefully chosen art objects. Rather than offering a heavy-handed interpretation of colonial style, the decor combines the influences of many places -- North Africa, the Mediterranean, and of course, Mexico (both historical and modern) -- in its choice of textiles, ornamentation, and rich colors. The website advertises the hotel as "the house of a friend," but I can only wish that all my friends were so sophisticated and well-travelled in their tastes. Each room has its own "personality." Our room, El Ciruelo, or The Plum-Tree, was romantic, light and airy, with a comfortable canopied bed, tile floors, pretty little tables conveniently placed here and there, narrow skylights, and a lovely view of the central courtyard-walkway of the hotel. An alcove held a second bed. (I'm not a good photographer, and my photos don't do the room justice.) And the bathroom was a work of art. The original stone wall of the building made up one of the walls, and the artfully weathered look of the other surfaces lent a striking backdrop for the sleek, modern fixtures. And everything was exceptionally clean and thoughtfully arranged. The rooms are not air-conditioned, but the modern fans served us well in late summer. The room rate also includes WIFI and a selection of hot breakfast items, coffee, and pastries.

With just 6 rooms, La Casa offers the personalized qualities of a bed and breakfast, but with the professionalism of a larger hotel. The owner, Moreh, answered all the questions I had emailed promptly and patiently. And during our stay, she and her staff were wonderful -- warm and friendly, responding to our requests with generosity and good humor. At the same time, they also respected our privacy and independence as guests, something we really appreciated. All in all, a wonderful place -- I just can't say enough good things about our stay!
