“Authentic Meal in the Beautiful Catskill Mountains”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Last weekend my husband and I had the pleasure of dining at the Prospect Restaurant in Hunter, NY. What a wonderful experience it was. From the magnificent views of Hunter Mountain to the quality food and service I cannot recommend a better place to try. We ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer and it was amazing! For our entrees my husband had the Woodstock burger which he swears was one of the best burgers he has ever had and that is a lot coming from him. I had the bruschetta burger which was also delicious and I am normally not a huge burger eater. The wine list was extensive, but our waiter was great with helping us choose just the right bottle to compliment our meal. I wish we had saved room for dessert, but I know we will be back for fall foliage and ski season very soon!

Overpriced food, poor quality from the kitchen, although the great wait staff couldn't save the experience...

“wow what great food !”
Reviewed 11 June 2013

The wide variety of appetizers and entrees gave you an idea of the talent and capabilities of the chef who does an exceptional job from the fresh salad to the wonderful main courses . We did not have a single bad aspect of our fourteen meals that we so enjoyed. From the simple but filling breakfast keeping us happy to the dinners that were consistent in freshness and delightful taste this place has so much to offer.

“Bad... Just really bad!”
Reviewed 20 January 2013

They claim to be award winning; if it's for the worst meal ever, yes, without a doubt, The Propect wins.

Dinner consists of a salad; it's a plate of wilted romaine lettuce. That's it, nothing else. The appetizers are a selection of poorly put together frozen food. The bruschetta had a bizarre taste, not sure if they threw cucumber or green peppers in it, but it was horrible served on the pieces of stale toast, not on a piece of rustic bread. Clearly nothing fresh there.

They make an attempt to push "game" entrees on you. The "game" as well as everything else is just so bad; so overdone you could crack a tooth. You wait another 20 minutes after you tell the server it's bad to have them remove it from your table, and then wait another 20 minutes for another plate to come out, once again, completely overdone.

Desserts are also frozen and not even enough care to defrost them!

You get all of this for approximately $50 a person without drinks or wine. Outrageously overpriced.

Never, ever again.

Try the duck or the game duo, extensive wine list with some great options was unexpected. Will come back.
