“Delicious Lobster Dinner”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

My husband and I went to the Chef's Kitchen in Hunter, New York last Saturday night. There was a lobster special. I had a 1 1/2 pound lobster and huge salad for $21. My husband had the same with delicious pasta carbonara with it. The meal was great as was the service. There is no wine so we brought our own.

“Setting the Culinary Bar High & Reaching It!”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

Chef's Kitchen, a fairly-newly opened restaurant (January, 2012) with an Italian menu, should become your go-to place in Hunter, whether after a day of skiing, zip lining, hiking, touring, leaf-peeping, hanging out, whatever. The mini-strip mall that it is in is directly across the road from the main entrance to Hunter Ski Area, so you can't miss it. The staff here is thoughtful, energetic, friendly, and they really care about this place. One of the owners is culinary school trained, while the other was a chemistry major in college and definitely knows how to "marry" her foods well.
It's a fairly small place, a bit echo-y, has 8 cherrywood tables (constructed by the staff, who also laid down the slate tile floor), and cabernet-colored walls on which there are paintings for sale, made by local painters. Prices are reasonable, portions are HUGE. The food is expertly seasoned with robust and verdant flavors. Everything is cooked to order and the home-made bread was so pillowy soft and warm that I was able to forget that the restaurant was so chilly because someone forgot to turn on the space heater. The olive oil dipping sauce has a "secret" chef-created spice blend that is terrific, as is the chef-made, rich, sweet and creamy mozzarella. The only criticism I have here is that, if you want water, you have to purchase bottled water, as they do not offer "traditional" (tap?) water-with-ice-in-glasses.
Chef's Kitchen also has a take out menu, as well as pre-packaged meals to go that are delectable. By the way, they transform into a bagel and breakfast place each morning and, of course, make their bagels and breads in-house. Yum!
The folks here really care about their cooking, their customers, their carbon footprint, so, show them a little love in return!

“Excellent food with reasonable prices.”
Reviewed 8 February 2012

We visited Chef's Kitchen on it's thirda day open and it did not disappoint. They said they will be changing the menu depending on the season but the stuffed meatloaf is the best I"ve ever tasted. Each meal includes either soup or sald and it $15 which I thought was very reasonable for the quality and size of portions. The garlic vegetable soup was also delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone. It's bring your own on alcohol and drinks are over priced (had to pay by the bottle for water) so be ready for this but don't miss out!
