“An Underappreciated Gem of Huntington!”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

If you have to live on Long Island, one of the best places to be is Huntington,, and the reason is because of its burgeoning art and music scene. Heckscher Park is a center for this, with the Chapin Stage and as the site of the annual Fall Fair. There is always something new and cool at the museum. In the summer there are music events outside the steps. A nice way to spend an afternoon.

Well curated special exhibits, notable permanent collection, easy parking, no crowds (like at MMA & MoMA).

“Small Gem”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Recently had the opportunity to visit the Heckscher Museum of Art's Stan Brodsky Retrospective. His work is thought provoking and a sensory delight.

This museum is a small gem....easy on the eyes and easy on the feet. In addition to the Brodsky show there were works from the museum's collection, giving the view a taste of some excellent, less well known, American and European artists.

For families with young children, they have a table with art materials and projects to keep them engaged while the parents enjoy the show.

Finally, the park surrounding the museum with its sculptures and small building is a delight on a nice day.

“Small, but well-run art museum”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

The Heckscher is a small but thoughtful art museum in Huntington's Heckscher Park. Exhibits almost always have a useful or interesting take on their subject. And because the place is not much bigger than a medium-sized gallery, it's not exhausting for those folks who don't have decent museum stamina.
