“Nicest place in the area.”

What do you get when you take a very old Adirondack great camp that at one point sat empty and unused for many years and give a talented and creative couple for 11 months to pour in a lot of sweat equity and I'm sure a great deal of money, and what do you get?

Answer: A REALLY nice place to use as a base camp while exploring the surrounding Adirondack mountains and towns.

Don't forget to toss in a fantastic onsite restaurant and a convenient downstairs pub with sitting areas and plenty of games for entertainment, oh and don't forget...it all sits right on the lake!

I think we made the right choice when we chose this place for a long relaxing weekend (Sight unseen!).

At one time, Adirondack lakes were dotted with Grand Lodges that attracted guests from around the states and around the world. Not many remain, but The Woods Inn is a picture-perfect example- with all the modern comforts!

Owner Joedda greeted us warmly and pointed out that we were just in time for the lounge to open! Perfect!

But first a tour of the grounds just blew us away. An expansive wraparound deck, beautiful dock and lake views, and a warm and welcoming common room. Our guest room was done in a Fisherman's theme and we loved it! And such a view of Fourth Lake.

Then off to the lounge for live music by Fritz Henry- the perfect way to start our getaway. And bartender Kelly mixes the best Manhattan ever!

We had only two nights and a day to enjoy, so first thing next day we did the short hike up Rocky Mountain for breathtaking views of the fall colors and the Fulton chain of lakes. Afterwards we headed back to the Woods Inn and shared lunch on the beautiful porch. Then next door to rent a kayak from Connie Perry of Frisky Otter Tours. She's literally on the grounds at Woods Inn and we enjoyed the most wonderful afternoon kayaking.

But the best thing yet was the amazing sunset from the Woods Inn dock! Followed by a wonderful dinner in the dining room. And then back to the cozy Adirondack chairs by the lake for some of the most amazing stargazing we'd ever seen.

Thank you Joedda and Jay- we'll be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view- or maybe even a jacuzzi room!

This was our second stay at the Woods Inn. We had stayed here before, several years ago, and were anticipating a good stay in our favorite area of the Adirondacks. It was a huge disappointment. It appears that the owners have tired of taking care of this historic inn. The bedding was old and well worn. There was no mattress cover, and the bottom sheet was torn, so that the mattress was exposed. The comforter was well washed; it should have been thrown out months ago. The room was filthy, with cobwebs clinging from ceiling to light fixtures. It gave the appearance of a truly uncaring staff.

The evening meal was equally disappointing. It was hard to get someone to serve us, and, again, the whole experience appeared to be an afterthought. These folks need to pick up their attention to details, or to sell and get out of a business they have obviously lost interest in.

The young woman at the front desk was the bright spot in an otherwise frustrating stay.

Room Tip: Stay down the road at the Northwoods Inn!

Adkinnkeeper, Owner at The Woods Inn, responded to this review, 23 September 2012
I am the owner of The Woods Inn and this is a devastating review. We could not possibly work any harder or put any more energy , thought and care into our property. I check the rooms personally and we update linens and furnishings as needed. This customer did not complain when they stayed so that we could correct the issues nor have they responded to my e - mail thru trip advisor ,so I have no idea when they stayed or what room they were unhappy with. We are on - site every single day , so it would not have been hard to talk to us when they were here. In general when you are traveling if you are not happy with a restaurant or lodging it would be most helpful to let the management know sooner rather than later so problems can be corrected. Of course all hospitality owners want happy customers , it is what we strive for .

My husband and I just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here, and we loved it! Besides the location and building being beautiful, it just has an overwhlemingly relaxed vibe. We immediately settled in and felt disconnected from the real world all weekend. The girl working at the front desk was beyond friendly- she was genuinely so nice and helpful!
The restaurant's food was great as well. And you can't beat the view!
We highly recommend it to anyone, and hope to be back someday ourselves.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 107 and loved it! Jacuzzi tub, lake view, end room.

My wife and I made our first visit in our 1935 Ford. We felt very comfortable leaving it in their parking lot, approx. 500 feet from the road. When the owner learned that we planned to visit Great Sagamore Camp, she insisted we take her car due to the 4 mile gravel road into the camp. That's customer care! The food was so good we ate all evening meals in their restaurant, as well as the breakfast buffet. Our room (#205) was
rather spartan and some noise could be heard through the floor above, but the inn was originally built in 1894. We hope to return.

Attended a wedding at Woods Inn recently. The wedding party stayed at the hotel and had a wonderful stay. The reception itself was handled exceptionally well by the Woods Inn staff members. The food was better than ever! All details were handled perfectly. I recommend staying at Woods Inn any time of year!

We made our first trip this past weekend and loved it and will come back; however, I had to agree about the room. We had the worst room (208) on the floor....because when the rooms were left open after people checked out, the others seemed charming and had much nicer furnishings than ours. It was still wonderful...the restaurant was great, we ate dinner there both nights and the grounds were very nice. Especially liked the new dock area. The staff were all very friendly. Outside music was nice as well. We will visit again!

This is an award - winning historic property we designed to be a true Adirondack experience. The decor is meant to be campy shabby - chic.
