So the Vanderbilts didn't invite you to their Great Camp Mansion this year? Well, here's a fine alternative. Woods Inn has an unbeatable location on the lake shore at Inlet, we watched sunsets over the lake as we ate very tasty - and good value - meals by the deck. The location is handy for Sagamore, the Adirondack Museum (well worth a visit) and of course the lakes and trails. Kayak hire is available next door, and the little village of Inlet has interesting shops. This big wooden house is a century old and has been restored enough for comfort but retains real character in the bedrooms and public rooms. If you love the big chain hotels it may not be for you but if you like authenticity make a beeline. The staff are friendly and you get to meet the owner not the duty manager. Oh, and there is a cheerful bar, an elegant dock on the lake, grassy slopes and traditional chairs at the lakeside....if I go back to the Adirondacks I would definitely want to stay here again.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- A restored turn of the century inn with tavern and restaurant. Situated on Fourth Lake in Inlet with amazing Adirondack views. This is an award - winning historic property we designed to be a true Adirondack experience. The decor is meant to be campy shabby - chic. While we have added the modern conveniences that we think were lacking in the past century, we have tried to create a less stressful mountain environment that brings back another time. ... more less
