We spent two days on the lake, spending the night at the Driftwood Inn on the west side of the lake. Cayuga is a big lake - 38 or so miles long, up to 5 miles wide, and roughly 400' deep. If you are planning on boating on this lake make sure 1. You check the weather. If the wind is right the waves can get big and you could find yourself overmatched. and 2. Have a full tank of gas. There are places to buy gas, for sure, but as this lake is big you might find the gas is further away than you planned! There are multiple state parks from which to launch or at which you can play. Taughannock Falls St Park is the one we launched from and it boasts a handy waterfall to hike (and easy hike) up to. At the south end is Ithaca with plenty to do, a nice waterfront restaurant (the Boatyard Grill and Bar) and a very nice marina. Note: The marina is not a close walk to town ( a mile or two at least) so you might want to take a cab.

We enjoyed gentle walk up to Taughannock falls, we all walked up the river bed. Excellent views of falls, kids really enjoyed the trek. Then back down to lakes edge for sun bathing and a swim in a well supervised area. Kids all swam out to diving platform, approximately 100 yards, and spent happy hour or so diving off the springboard and taking in the warm weather. Fast food outlet produced reasonable burgers at good value. Most however who were prepared had brought a pic nic.

The lake was beautiful when we visited. Nice and clear at Taughannock Park. Admission one day gets you into all the state parks in the area the same day. You can take the trail up to the falls and swim in the lake and use the playground by the lake and then head to Buttermilk Falls and Robert Treman Park.

What a beautiful Lake and filled with Vineyard after Vineyard! We really enjoyed driving the scenic roads and stopping at all the wineries along the way.
