“Quiet and Quaint”
Reviewed 10 June 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Lavender Room for two nights and three days in early June 2013. It’s a lovely room with a nice, peaceful view. The kitchen was well stocked with healthy coffee, tea, juices, breakfast items, and snacks. We didn’t need to ask for a thing while staying there. Everything was clean and welcoming! And bonus: eco-living!

Please note that is a quiet, respectful area. The B&B is in the basement of the owner’s house. The land is gorgeous to walk around and explore. It was an extremely relaxing stay. Everyone we encountered in the EcoVillage was very friendly. We were not bothered by anyone and never felt like we were intruding when we encountered others. Also, the owner of the Frog’s Way went out of his way to give suggestions about local attractions, places to eat, things to do, etc.

The only con was that when a family of three stayed in the Peach Room next to us, it got a little crowded because there were now five people sharing a small kitchen and one bathroom. But we made it work!

The Village of Song were Frog's Way is located was a quick drive from The Commons and other local attratctions in Ithaca. We found it very easy to get around with the help of guidebooks and the GPS on my iPhone.

I would stay here again and would recommend to friends and family who like a casual, intimate B&B atmosphere!

A friend and I recently stayed at Frog's Way while travelling through the Finger Lakes. The place was bright and airy, and it's location within EcoVillage Ithaca made it a fascinating place to stay. We walked around the village and found everyone very friendly. Owner Elan is friendly and gracious. There was ample food for breakfast, all organic and local. It's a select and make your own affair from the refrigerator--with ample and interesting choices. There is a great notebook with information about local sights and resources, as well as information about EcoVillage. We could have joined a community dinner that night at EcoVillage, but had prior plans to eat at Moosewood Restaurant. I'd highly recommend Frog's Way.

Staying at Frog's Way has been an economical and convenient bed and breakfast the two times I have visited Cornell University in the last 6 months. The proprietor Elan is a pleasant and straight forward gentleman, making the stay in his home comfortable and enjoyable. If you are sharing space with other guests expect that you must accommodate others for use of kitchen/bathroom area. If you are flexible enough to do this, your stay should be enjoyable. Also, EcoVillage is a marvel for those who are curious about sustainable living and intentional communities.

Our time at Frogs way was very healing. Coming from NYC we are used to the hustle and bustle and Frogs way gave us the chance to clear our minds. The quiet and comfort of the B & B, plus the organic and eco friendly environment (and the ability to continue to compost while traveling), were other perks of Frogs way! Elan was helpful with any of our needs while staying at Ecovillage and also helped us to get acquainted to Ithaca during our first time visiting the town! Would definitely recommend this wonderful space to others!

The bed and breakfast experience here at Frog's Way had pluses and minuses.

The pluses are that the Lavender Room, which I stayed ,had a super comfortable bed and a stunning night-time view as well as day time view. The room was packed with wonderful books on sustainable living and poetry and crafts etc. The room however, had a musty smell and the curtains were dirty. Since the breakfast is self -serve and some of it is kept in a small refrigerator I wasn't sure which food I should be eating, and which food belonged to the family of four that was staying in the other room. The bed and breakfast is a small space to begin with, and when it is shared by four adults and two small children, with one bathroom and a very small dining space , it took a lot of effort not to get in each other's way.

Thank you for making us feel so much at home during our stay at Frog's Way this past weekend. We both wish we could have freed up more time to explore EcoVillage's trails, gardens and fields, and perhaps spend a bit of contemplative time with the wonderful library you provided.

We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast selection and helped ourselves to the juice and delicious homemade granola and yogurt on Saturday morning. We used your restaurant recommendation list for our choice of brunch and dinner spots. Thanks for playing Ithaca Zagat!

I spied the plate of zucchini bread you left on the downstairs table when we returned to the room late on Saturday, so I wasn't shy about making myself a cup of tea and enjoying a few slices of the wonderful treat before turning in. Thanks for all the special treatment!

We look forward to coming back!

It is by all means worth coming here to have a unique experience of living like locals in an eco village. The breakfast in B&B Frog's Way consists of delicious home made local products and it is self served.
My only concern was that the breakfast nook is very tiny, especially if there are strangers in the other room, and the bathroom is also small and is shared by all guests of Frog's Way (when we checked in it was not clean...) If you need privacy or locks, it is not for you, yet if you want to meet wonderful friendly people living in the community, go for it!

ElanShapiro, Owner at Frogs Way Bed and Breakfast, responded to this review, 8 November 2012
I appreciate our guest taking the time to review Frog’s Way on 11/6/12 and would like to address her concerns about the “tiny ...breakfast nook… especially if there are strangers in the other room.” Starting this summer, in response to this concern, we have highlighted for guests the option of dining in the adjacent common room. It has a table area with much more space for eating than the kitchenette/breakfast nook, and is also separated by another space and a doorway from the guest bedrooms.
Also, about the bathroom that is “shared by all guests of Frog's Way”, I hope people don’t come up with a picture in their minds of a line of guests waiting to use the bathroom. There are only two guest rooms in our B&B and each one hosts 2 or at most 3 people.
Thanks again for the feedback, which keeps us focused on how we can improve.
Elan
