My husband & I stayed at Michael's beautiful home away from home for Ithaca's College Family Weekend, which also happened to be our 25th wedding weekend! We (thankfully) booked in August and were thrilled when we arrived to check in. The grounds are expansive and include acres that are available for long, romantic walks. We stayed in the Red Room, which has a large, amazing bathroom adjoining the sleeping area. The bed, linens and black-out curtains are so comfortable and allow for a quiet, dark, peaceful night's rest. The shower is fun with double shower heads/body spray heads, one on each side of this 6 foot wide beautifully tiled shower area. There is no ledge/step up entry into this shower, the entry is flush with the bathroom floor & is separated from the rest of the bath area by a shower curtain.
The kitchen Michael prepares the guest breakfast in is filled with appliances that meet the exceptional needs of this owner-chef and his lovely, friendly staff. We especially loved the herbs, wheatgrass, etc being grown for use in meals prepared by Michael. We were impressed how Michael was actually teaching the staff about the process of making the meals he prepared, as well as actually delivering the food in a beautiful presentation. BTW, please bring your imagination and ask Michael to make you something for breakfast you've always wanted to try! He will rise to the occasion and I have a distinct feeling he actually cherishes the challenge! You will not be sorry and it will create a very special memory.
We truly enjoyed our breakfast each morning around a very large, square dining table in the Great Room surrounded by an eclectic mix of Michael's history, the friendly staff and guests. Everyone immediately jumped right into engaging, fun conversations. We had to force ourselves to leave the table, and only because we had to meet our daughter at Ithaca for a family weekend scheduled event.
In the evening when Michael was around the conversation was very interesting with all the stories Michael shared with us. Michael, thank you for making us feel instantly at home. We made sure we took advantage of the outdoor hot tub AND wonderful sauna, jumping out of one & into the other before we retired for the evening in our cozy room. Nobody around at that point so it was very quiet gazing at the stars and we just turned everything off as we went back into the house. Wonderful!
I just cannot say enough about the beautiful vista views from the back of the house as we woke up every day. Breathtaking!
Well, I could keep going with so many more details as to why this place is so special, but suffice it to say that it is special because Michael works very hard to make each person comfortable and exceed expectations, in his incredibly laid back, gracious way.
