“Nice evening out”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

We enjoyed the atmosphere, staff and food at Maxie's. It was crowded, but it was Friday night. We spied the special dessert right away, so we saved room by having small meals. Ahi tuna that I had on my salad was a bit overdone, but not horribly so. My husband's Andouille sausage po'boy was to his liking. The dessert was a chocolate espresso bread pudding, and met our delicious expectations.

“Past it's Prime”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

This used to be a fun, innovative restaurant, and the only one of it's kind in the area (serving cajun/southern style food). However, as time passed, they became complacent and now just sit on their laurels. For instance; the gumbo used to be full of shrimp and andouille sausage - last time we counted 4 shrimp and 2 pieces of sausage in a bowl of mostly rice. The soft whipped, herbed butter that came with warm, fresh cornbread is now hard, almost flavorless butter with day-old cornbread that tastes right out of the fridge. And the fact that they charge $14.95 for a piece of chicken on the bone, then charge another $1 for gravy, is just nickle and diming the diners. Nope - I'm done. There are too many excellent restaurants in this area to be over-charged for this food.

“Excellent oysters very good food and wine”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

This is an excellent place to go as a small group for very good food. The atmosphere is communal and fun. The oysters are opened in front of you and the staff have a good nose for bad oysters which are discarded. The price is moderate for an overall highly recommended experience. I would say to anyone you have to try this one on for size to decide for yourself. It is well worth the visit.

“Awesome ending to start our Mardis Gras weekend”
Reviewed 2 March 2014 via mobile

After a day at the wineries 4 of us, 2 couples dressed in our Mardis Gras garb stopped at Maxies for bite to eat to end our evening. The wait was reasonable, which gave us an opportunity to enjoy some oysters & clams. Our meals, shrimp n grits, steak, bbq shrimp and shooters were terrific. We had an excellent server, Megan & the whole staff were fun and gracious. We look forward to our return trip here soon. Thank you all!

“Let the good times roll!”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

We ended our Mardi Gras wine tour with a trip to Maxie's. They didn't let us down! Started with raw oysters and clams while waiting for our table. Our server grated fresh horse radish for our plate - yum! We came in to have fun, we had our beeds and masks, we joked with patrons and the staff - everyone was so friendly! Dinner started with BBQ shrimp and delicately fried oysters. Our meals were wonderful! Fall off the bone ribs, carolina pulled pork, spicy shrimp and grits with taso ham gravy, beef tenderloin. The grits are stone ground and cooked with TLC! We love this place and always plan a visit when we are in Ithaca. It's crowded, yes, but it adds to the laid back friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to go back! Thanks to the staff for making our evening special they went above and beyond!
