“Food was delicious but overpriced!”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

We had a nice experience here....colonial feel dining room...good service. The steaks were blackened but really delicious. We had a good salad and baked potatoes but at the price they charge for the steak you think they could throw in some lettuce and a potato.

“Excellent on all counts”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 via mobile

We stayed just one night at LaTourelle, on same site as the JTS, and dined here. The food was very good. I ordered lamb chops, which were very big. I asked for them to be fairly well done. They were black on the outside but just right throughout. The waiter's service was excellent, and as for the hostess... ! Had we stayed longer we might have looked for somewhere cheaper on another night, but for a one-off it was just what we needed.

“Very good food, accommodating staff, pricey.”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

We have been going to John Thomas for our anniversary dinner for several years now. The restaurant is basically an old farmhouse, converted but still rustic. The steaks are very good, and have always been cooked as ordered. I most recently ordered the prime rib ($42) and it was huge--took most of it home and fed off it for two more days. Everything on the menu is a' la carte--if you want salad, you have to order it as it is NOT included with your entree'--expect to pay extra for both salad and a side veggie, baked potato, etc. (Some of the side dishes come in large portions which can easily be shared with another, such as the garlic mashed potatoes.) Dessert cart contains pretty standard fare--cheesecake, chocolate cake, cobbler, pie, etc.--tasty enough but nothing special. There are also fish and vegetarian options for those who don't care for steak. The wine list is fairly extensive, with moderately priced options ($25 - $30 bottle) all the way up to Dom Perignon. Staff has always been friendly and accommodating. John Thomas is pricey however--we never seem to get out of there without spending in the $220-250 range depending on what we order (tip included). But hey, our anniversary only comes once a year (:

“Good but expensive and overextended staff”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

Service was spotty but several large parties were going on as it was a saturday night. Steak was good but over priced. People next to us had to send their food back because it came out over done and then raw. There is a feel of and old tavern and the dinning room staff was very accommodating. On a quiet night it probably would be quiet charming.

“Not worth the price.”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

There are some very good things on the menu here, but it is way over priced! Like WAY over priced. Their steaks are not the best in town either, but it is a steakhouse, and there aren't a lot of those around. Honestly, the meat tasted like Sysco. Dry-Aged Sysco, but still Sysco. Nothing truly special about anything... except the sides, which were ironically vegetarian and the best things we had.
In the end, it's just a place with very little to offer for the price they demand. So we're all set.
