We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Ithaca for July 2-5th. This is a good location for exploring Ithaca and the area. The hotel was clean, but the pricing was very expensive for the level of amenities and quality of the rooms provided. Perhaps this was due to the proximity to Cornell University. There is a nice row of restaurants nearby with several choices of cuisine. The area around seems safe, for the most part.
We arrived in a rainstorm and there was a long line of cars waiting for valet parking, but no valet in sight. After a wait we went inside to the lobby and we were told to go park in the lot across the street, which turned out to be fairly simple- a sign to that effect would have made things more efficient.
We asked the concierge/clerks about things to do in town and they pointed out the waterfalls in the area and gave us a good guidebook to visit these lovely nature attractions. We were looking forward to fireworks for 7/4, however apparently Ithaca celebrates with fireworks on 7/3, which the hotel staff failed to tell us when asked about this so we missed seeing fireworks. Perhaps they were not aware, did not know or did not care. It seems something the concierge staff should have been able to provide information on.
The rooms are an ok size, the view was on a low level and nothing special. The room could use a refurbish, with evidence of peeling paint in the bathroom and worn rugs. The beds features a sleep number system bed, which was nice. There is also a Kurig coffee machine in each room, a nice touch.

Room Tip: Our room had no view, perhaps higher up rooms might have a better view.

Traveling alone, which I have done often, you find that the staff can sometime "overlook" a single person. The Ithaca Hilton staff was warm, welcoming and extremely professional. The room decor is up to date and contemporary, quite comfortable and very clean. Great location in Ithaca....you can walk to all the restuarants, stores, etc. I'll be back.

A great hotel experience, service, friendliness, cleanliness and everything that mattered was more than I could have hoped for. We felt like this was a five star experience ! Even though major construction was going on the street below, the hotel went out of their way to have one of the best trained staff I have ever experienced. and offered excellent value to its guests. Everything was top notch.

The location of this hotel is terrific, right downtown & walkable to everything. I stayed in the renovated part of the hotel- tower and it was terrific. I hear from other guests the older part of the building is quite rundown. This is a great addition to Ithaca, as there aren't many updated places to stay. I hope other hotels follow their lead as the options are expensive for what they are and very outdated.

I am sorry but you are reviewing the wrong hotel. All our rooms are on the 6th floor and up to the 9th floor. We don’t have older wings. The hotel you are talking about use to be the Holiday Inn. Our Hilton Garden inn was built in 2005 and is the only newer hotel in the downtown area.

The hotel is centrally located in downtown Ithaca. The rooms are nicely appointed and comfortable. The fitness room is nicely equipped. The indoor pool, is rather small, more suitable for children than serious swim.

In addition to the hotel's own restaurant, there is a Starbucks and Kilpatrick's attached to the building with access from the inside of hotel.

There is complimentary coffee/tea in the lobby in the morning. Late afternoon, warm cookies are added as well.

Parking is across the street and free with validation at the front desk.

Overall, we had a very nice stay.

Our family of four was in town to visit Cornell and stayed at this hotel two nights. We were glad to eventually get a reservation because initially it was all booked up. It is a good location, right in the downtown area and near campus. Our room had a great view of Cornell. Unfortunately, the Ithaca downtown commons area is "under construction" right now, so walking around is not as great as expected, but we still enjoyed the nearby restaurants, etc. The room was fine; the bathroom is a little small (they only put up three sets of towels because not even sure where you would put a fourth). The TV is a flat screen but on the small side of things and the mattresses seemed a little saggy. So, for what we were paying I was not super impressed by the room, but everything was clean, the staff is very friendly, there is free parking, there is a nice setup of water and coffee and sometimes snacks in the lobby, and the hotel seemed very safe. We paid for the breakfast on the second day (about $10 per person) and it was good but extremely crowded in the small room and they were having trouble keeping up with restocking things.

Having also attended school at a large university in a small college town, my guess is this is one of the better accommodations in Ithaca. I'm glad we chose it.

We have the Garden Sleep System bed Adjustable bed conforms to your body, gently cradling your neck, spine and legs while providing pressure-free sleep with 100% virgin wool mattress topper that helps regulate and maintain comfortable body temperature the adjustment knobs are on both sides of the bed. It seems we fell short of telling you how to adjust the knobs for your sleep comfort and I am deeply sorry for this. Here is the information about the Commons.

Ithaca Commons, a two-block pedestrian mall, is the social and economic center of Ithaca. Sasaki completed a concept design to assess existing conditions and provide recommendations to improve the commons as a retail environment and community gathering space. The preliminary concept plan draws inspiration from the striking gorges of Ithaca, incorporating them into the urban fabric of the city to establish a vibrant, active center.

Much above normal Garden Inn standards walkable to everything downtown. If not, they have a free shuttle to Cornell, the airport and elsewhere; they will also pick-you with a phone call. Rooms are very comfortable and if you are high enough on the north side you can see the lake. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable. Hotel parking was just across the street in a high-rise structure; free but valet parking was also available.
The only disappointment was the breakfast; oat meal (porridge) was awful and the strawberries were all wilted (in prime local strawberry season!!). Cooked eggs etc were very good, and the staff was helpful and if in a hurry you can get in and out in a few minutes. There is free coffee in the lobby all day long; in addition there is a Starbucks on the same street level.
There is a pool, which we did not use, so cannot comment on.
For Ithaca the price is quite reasonable

Room Tip: The higher rooms have the best view, and those on the north side may see the lake in the distance
