“Basic, clean motel”

This hotel had a retro vibe to it, sort of Norman Bates-ish but in a really good way. I loved it. The grounds were nice & the fireflies a bonus. The location was a bit far from Ithaca but I liked the more rural setting next to Buttermilk Falls Park. The room was very clean. The bed was a bit hard but the linen was clean and the pillows were comfy. Keurig for coffee in the morning which is okay by me because the cup was fresh. If you're looking for a very reasonably priced, clean place to sleep this is your spot. If you want a destination hotel, look elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed at Grayhaven Motel in Ithaca, NY last summer, and have already booked our stay there again for our vacation in August. If you are going to Ithaca to play on the internet in your Swanky hotel room, don't stay at Grayhaven. But. . . if you are going to Ithaca to do things in and around Ithaca, and wouldn't mind seeing humingbirds at the feeders outside your window, or you like to have a spacious room with a real like-home feel, then Grayhaven might be your place.
Recently Kathy (the proprieter) has stopped serving a continental breakfast. BUT she has COFFEE in the front office. Grayhaven permits you to bring your pets, in fact, Kathy made special arrangements for pet-owners in Binghamton, NY and the Tri-Cities area of upstate New York to come and stay at Grayhave after last fall's flooding in those cities. The motel has a professional area that is fenced in for dogs to be exercised and exercised well.
Grayhaven has been around a while. My husband's family stayed there when he was a student at Cornell in the 70s. The rooms are not newly created, and the wifi signal is weak in some rooms, non-existent in others. But the beds are super-comfortable, the staff is friendly, and extra towels or blankets are readily available.
While there is mention of traffic noises in other reviews, this is Ithaca, New York, not Washington, DC. There is minimal traffic out there, and many of the rooms back onto a wooded area that does a great job of drowning out the car noise when cars go by.
Overall, I think our family will continue to book our annual stay in Ithaca, NY at Grayhaven - it's a great place for the cost, and hasn't let us or anyone we know down yet!

Room Tip: Look to get a room close to the main building for good wifi signal.

First of all, this is not a B&B - I don't know why it's classified as such in Tripadvisor.
Also, please note my rating is for and old style local motel. Please don't try to compare it to an upscale hotel or a chain hotel - it really doesn't compare favorably.

Having said that, here are my comments. The hotel grounds are immaculate and we had a very pleasant time walking our dog around and even trying out the Agility equipment in the fenced-in dog area. The motel is on the southern edge of town so it's a bit away from things (we went to visit Cornell). It's also on a busy road (route 13) and that can be bit noisy.

As far as the rooms go, there are pluses and minuses. The room we had (room 11 in the Carriage House) was quite large with 1 double bed and a fold down couch. It had a refrigerator (but no microwave). It was a bit "campy" and smelled heavily of some kind of cleaning agent upon our arrival. That was quickly remedied by running the heater/fan for a few minutes. It was completely carpeted except in the bathroom area. The rooms in this building have vaulted ceilings which kind of adds to the roomy feel of it. I sort of felt like I was staying on a cottage on a lake - it had that kind of feel. We thought everything was very clean and reasonably well cared for. The wi-fi did not work in our room (it was pretty far from the office) but we knew that in advance. The price was certainly better than other places in Ithaca and they really do cater to folks with dogs. There aren't a lot of decent places to stay in Ithaca and most of them are way overpriced so this is a nice find.

This place is quite a bit different than anything else you will find in Ithaca. It's not a Holiday Inn or a Best Western -- it's just an older style local motel, so don't expect luxurious accomondations here. It is really close to several shopping centers but its several minutes of driving to get to the college campuses. The owner was really nice and very accomodating in my opinion.

Room Tip: Look at the pictures and descriptionson the web site. Room 11 is closest to the highway so it was a...

I stayed here while my horse was at Cornell. Very quaint and comfortable though. The furnishings are outdated, but we stayed in the room with 2 double beds, and the beds were super comfy. I brought a small fan, which drowned the noise of any traffic that other reviews may mention, but didn't notice much traffic on the road anyway?
If you want pristine, and are a germaphobe, I wouldn't reccommend staying. It's not filthy, and was plenty clean for us. I don't require starched linens and such, just a clean place to sleep. Which is just what we received.

I didn't notice any odors either. For the price you pay, it's worth every penny.

Room Tip: Stay in the room with doubles. Very spacious and comfy beds.

We've stayed at this place after driving for hours and couldn't find anything. This motel looked pretty, at the front.......unfortunately we got (the last) room at the back of the property (room 14) and of all the many motels we've had stayed the last years, this was definately the most worst!
The room (2 seperate beds) was so over aged, the smell was terrible and it was far from clean! The little table between the two beds was so dirty that we put a towel on it. Lots of dust, especially at the wooden plate above your head in bed.
Although it was just for a few hours sleep and we are surely not demanding people, we've learned from this night that we always have to check the room before making a reservation. This has never been necassary before.

We got a 1 bedroom suite/cottage with kitchen. the size of the cottage was perfect, the picnic tables outside lovely (although located directly on a busy, noisy street). But inside was so dirty and smelly, i kept wanting to puke. Bugs in all the windows, air conditioner vents filthy, bringing in filthy air. I wasn't able to sleep, thinking about my nasty environment. Also they make you clean and sweep the kitchen upon checkout or you are charged an extra $50. The location is great though, next to many restaurants (Chilis, Friendlys) and stores (walmart), and only 5 minute-drive from Ithaca commons. Also very close to both Buttermilk Falls Park and Robert Treman Park (both with gorges, hiking trails, and waterfalls-both must see!). We spent our 2nd night somewhere else in Ithaca because i just couldn't stay here another minute.
