“Decent Hotel. Close to Subway.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

I had a two night stay at this hotel over the Thanksgiving weekend. I didn't have any of the bad experiences expressed by other reviewers. The price was right, we booked directly from the hotel's website and got a great deal for such a busy weekend. The staff was very friendly. The first night we had to park on the street (right next to the hotel) and the night staff helped us find a good spot and even warned us about street cleaning so we wouldn't get a ticket. The next night we parked at the hotel parking, which is very limited (if you want a spot, you have to get there early). The surrounding area is not the best, but I didn't feel threatened. Parking had light, the hotel lobby was staffed at night. The subway is withing walking distance (E line), which was a big plus. The room was clean. The continental breakfast was the usual cereal, eggs, bagels and donuts. It was great not to have to worry about where to have breakfast. Check out was smooth.

The staff was unfriendly and I might even say unpleasant. When we asked for a taxi to the airport, they called us some guy, who was definitely not a taxi-driver and he charged us 10$ more than a real taxi would have cost. The breakfast area was funny in a bad way, we could see the administrator and his creepy friend who was almost always there chatting with him and looking at us.
Despite of the fact, that the hotel is a bit worn out, the rooms were clean and comfortable. With the subway "around the corner" it was a good place to discover Manhattan and the airport was also easy to reach.

Went through booking.com and apparently they never visited or fact checked the place. the neighbourhood is rough. The parking is limited and the manager would not even tell us where to park safely. Lobby was dirty and poorly lit -we did not even bother to check in. Also, booking.com promised to reimburse us for this dreadful place and after 3 months has failed to do so. Stay away from this place and booking.com. Spend a few more dollars and stay at a cleaner, safer place near the airport.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere

I stayed here at the last minute and overall I was pleased. A few points to be aware of - the area is visibly rough and there is a heavy police presence. A shopkeeper told me he had been robbed four times recently. On the plus side however the metro station is less than a minutes walk away and I felt reasonably safe. My own experience was marred by bed bugs in the first room. Never a good thing but when I complained I was immediately moved to another room which was fine - the staff were really helpful and even moved my stuff. The breakfast is very basic but more than OK for what you pay and overall I got the impression of a family business trying to do their best by their customers. I had nothing like the terrible experiences listed on some of these reviews and also appreciated the free and very fast wifi. The hotel is about 40 minutes travel on the E (express) line to Manhattan - it can get busy and packed but if you are looking to experience New York that's all part of the fun!

Save your time and money!!! DON'T STAY HERE! The pictures are a bold faced lie, and the service was appalling!!! I'm embarrassed to say I gave these people a dollar. Check out was at 11am, we checked out at 8am because we just couldn't stand the smell of cigarettes and filthiness. There were blood splatters on the sheets, rips in the furniture, garbage in the ice container and dirty rags in the bathroom! We asked for a non-smoking room with 2 standard double beds and we got a smokers room with 1 king sized bed. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel

Very nice hotel. Breakfast could have been better. Service is excellent. And very much affordable. I would go visit again. Close by to a lot of great food areas and shopping areas. Also really close to the highway and subway and buses.

We landed at JFK at 11pm and the drive home was 3 hours so we decided to stay by JFK for a night. We picked a cheap hotel (which was still very price at $128) thinking it would only be a night and that was the biggest mistake. The hotel was in a rough neiborhood. We saw some prostitute-like women outside of the hotel. We were worried about our car's safety at the open parking lot but we were very tired to think much more. The front desk staff was not friendly. The first room he gave us was in the basement. As soon as we got to the basement, my fiance noticed the back door was open. That was alarming since the area was bad. Then we got into our room and encountered heavy cigarette smoke smell as soon as we entered. The room was supposed to be nonsmoking! The bed sheet looked dirty. It looked as if they never changed the sheet since the last person stayed there but only made the bed, and did a very bad job. We immediately requested another room. He then told us to wait at the room which was still in the basement and someone would bring the key. We stood in the hallway for 10 minutes and somebody finally showed up. He hesitated at first before he opened the door then he went into the room and came right out telling us that room wasn't clean. We then went back to the front desk. They were not able to give us any other room at all stating all rooms are occupied. They were going to spray the first room with some air freshner. That was definitely not a solution. We decided to drive 3 hours home at 2am because it was just not worth of risking having our car breaking in or suffering in the dirty room. Do not stay there would be my suggestion.
