“Beautiful and Relaxing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

What a wonderful time we had at Orenda, this was my first experience with this type of vacationing but it definately will not be the last!! From the moment you arrive you feel relaxed. Upon our arrival we were greated by John who welcomed us and carried our bags right up to the Hemlock tent. But this is so much more than a tent, once inside you find a comfy bed with extra blankets, electric lights on the bedside table, and a wood burning stove in case its chilly. Then we toured the property with John so we knew where everthing was located and what amenities were available to us. Include in the price was the use of camps canoe, kayaks, and archery equipment. We took the canoe out on Garnet Lake and had a wonderful and peaceful time on what seemed like our own private lake. We also took advantage of the archery equipment and had a fun time. There are hammocks to rest in by a running stream and camp chairs set up around the fire for you when you get there. The food was wonderful all cooked on an open fire in cast iron pans. Did I mention the personal chefs, Angela and Mellisa well they certainly know how it cook. They can whip up some meals I didn't know were possible over the open flame. This too was all included in the price. They will cater to whatever your dietary needs are and send you a questionier prior to check in so they are aware of any special needs or requests. Even pack you a picnic lunch if you so desire. The beautiful outdoor shower inclosure is tiled and is complete with enviromentally friendly products, so you don't need to pack that. There are two seperate flushing toilets in the rest facility, soap and hand creams are provided. The eating pavillion jets out overlooking the running stream and has a cabinet with a few games in case you are so inclined. The first night it was just ourselves and one other couple and the second night we were joined by a third couple and had a great time hanging out by the fire and making smores and talking, oh by the way all the smore supplies were left for us.Your worries are just erased at Camp Orenda and I could have moved in permantly. Bravo David Webb please don't change a thing its perfect!

My wife read about Orenda in a newspaper article, and we decided it would be perfect for a long weekend getaway while our kids were at their own version of camp. From the minute we walked into camp we were taken care of and the stress just melted away. The staff is definitely the shining star of Orenda: John, Angie, and Melissa all made sure that we were happy, entertained, and fed throughout our entire stay.

The location is just beautiful and all the facilities at camp were hotel-quality. The food was tasty and freshly prepared for us on site. Not fancy B&B fare for the most part, but camp classics with a gourmet twist. Cookies/baked goods were prepared at their kitchen up the road (commercial kitchen on site coming soon) and were delicious.

John made sure we had all the info we needed for activities, and is a wealth of information for any and all outdoor attractions within 100 miles of the campsite. He is a seasoned hiker/outdoor sports enthusiast and knows all the best spots around. He clearly cares about the camp and the clientele, and it shows.

People expecting a gourmet tour of upstate NY might be disappointed, as will families looking for a value camp experience for a family of 6. That's not to say that it's not kid-friendly...there's plenty of activities for the entire family. But this is 'glamping', and you get what you pay for; personal attention, small guest count, luxurious facilities, and great food (3 meals a day!) prepared for you by the staff. In my opinion, it's worth the price, but that might not apply to everyone out there.

My wife and I are already looking forward to next year's trip.

Room Tip: Talk to Dave, there are only 5 cabins so really there's no such thing as a bad room. Proximity...

Great 3 nights at Orenda. Thanks to John for taking great care to see to all of our needs Thanks to Melissa and Angie for cooking us great food.Very relaxing stay in a pristine setting without any of the downside of regular camping The beds were great with real mattresses and 4 layers of blankets Each cabin had a wood burning stove for heating at nights(not needed in July ).The grounds were well kept with a camp fire burning all day and night very few bugs there. The brook goes through the upper and lower grounds. Hiking trails were on the 40 plus acre property. John made arrangements for us to go white water rafting which was excellent. We even went to a fire work show in town which was great. None of our requests were denied. We will be back

My wife and I stayed at Orenda for 3 nights. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by John it was an amazing weekend. I'm not much of an outdoors/camping person so had my doubts but this was the perfect way to go. The camp grounds are in perfect condition and have so many great little touches- the wood burning grill, awesome outdoor shower, fun firepit to hang out around, perfectly clean bathrooms, well marked hiking trails, peaceful stream that runs through camp etc. The tents are incredibly comfortable and very spacious. The mattresses and sheets were great (we had read some negative reviews in the past about those but they put in all new ones this year and it's an upgrade even from our own at home!). The food was outstanding. Breakfast was always delicious and the grilled sandwiches for lunch were great. Dinners were inventive and also delicious and the taste of food coming off the wood grill was perfect. John was there first thing every morning to help plan our day and was so helpful and friendly. Days can be adventurous and full of activity or lazy and relaxing at the camp and no one puts any pressure on you to do stuff. The only potential negative is that there are only 13 people at the camp and you don't know who you will be sharing it with. We had a had a great time the first couple of nights with a ladies trip that was there but also had a great time with all the other couples. So come with an open mind and it won't really matter who else is there. We kept saying it would be great to book with a big group and have the whole camp as our getaway. You can be part of a group or you can fly solo and either way Orenda is an awesome experience that we will definitely go back to! Thanks John and Dave and all the staff for making it a perfect weekend trip from NYC!

Camp Orenda is a peaceful getaway nestled in the woods of the Adirondacks. The location is perfect for all types of activities as the camp is very close to some great hikes (peaked mountain, crane mountain) and outdoor adventure companies for white water rafting, zip lining, etc.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the chef was able to accommodate a gluten free, vegan diet. John was very knowledgable of the area and had plenty of recommendations for activities of varying difficulty. If you want camping without having to set up your own campsite, this is the perfect place. We will definitely return next year!

About us....5 crazy girlfriends 45-50 that love a good time on our yearly "girls weekend!" We were here 2 years ago when David 1st opened... we came in September 2012....No flushing toilets and it rained. I vowed to my giIrlfriend Debbie I would never return......Well she had me at 2 FLUSHING TOILETS! We were there last weekend for 2 nights and had a much more better experience. So many improvements....Our group arrived at 2 different times and John was there to greet us and carry our bags up to our tents that have elecrtricity and lamps in them now! I was thrilled !! He went out of his way to make us feel like family..Dinner was waiting for us..salad with goat cheese, bacon burgers and fries..Brownies for desert! My girlfriend only eats gluten free and they were very accomadating to her needs as well. They have real mattresses on the beds now and plenty of blankets plus a heat stove in each cabin. Very comfy and cozy.. We had a great time and will return!! My apologies to the other couples that we met... We were kind of loud and rowdy! That's just how we roll on girls weekend!! Thanks again to John and Angie who did a great job...Also, David who really knows how to make it work for all types of people that come up to his camp.

We were here for my husband's birthday and we absolutely loved it. Truly an authentic back country experience with wonderful hosts. The whole team was extremely friendly and caring. Both me and my husband are vegetarians and they had their menu planned to accommodate our food requests. Food was delicious and the open-fire cooking, cast iron skillets, pretty little details like the candle holders, flowers, outdoor seating by the creek, all made it a very unique experience.

We stayed in Cabin Mill creek, the one right beside the creek. We could hear the water all day and night which was very relaxing. The wood burning stove inside our cabin kept us warm and cozy all night. There were good amount of activities too. A nice waterfall at a walking distance, kayaking, archery, hiking, and canoeing. The only low side is that it is pricey. But otherwise the quality and service is all excellent. We had a great time on the whole.
