“Great accommodations for our little family!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2012

Keene Valley Lodge was a fantastic base for our 3 day adventure in Keene Valley. My husband went there for business, but my daughter and I wanted to tag along. We were worried that we wouldn't be welcomed with a 17 old month toddler, but when I called ahead, George was very gracious and happy to have us all come. The breakfast buffet was delicious and filling and I appreciated chatting with George to find out more information about the area.

We stayed in Room 1, which was very spacious. We set up the pack n play in the sitting room and enjoyed having our own private bathroom. It was more than enough room for all of us, but if needed, you can walk out the door and can sit out on the couch on the main floor by the large fireplace. If you wanted a wee bit more seclusion they have a music room off the living room on the main floor which you could read in. We also enjoyed the short walk to the river to sit in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the quiet evening.

We are talking of planning another group trip with extended family, this place was such a marvelous find! We are so happy we stayed there and explored the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks!

Room Tip: Their website does a great job of describing each of the rooms and their amenities. We were in Keen...

Keene Valley Lodge is full of traditional Adirondack style. It's large and homey, but not fancy. We stayed several nights in Room 1, which is an excellent choice. It has it's own private entrance, and is actually a two room suite with bedroom and sitting room. The bed was so comfortable, and there were plenty of thick towels. The only other thing I would have appreciated would be an electrical outlet in the bathroom - if there was one, I couldn't find it.

We loved the big living room with fireplace, and there is also a second room with books and a piano. Verizon cell phone service is now available, and there is also a landline phone provided for calls to anywhere. Check-in is self service, and you likely won't see the innkeepers other than at breakfast, but they are available by phone if needed. This suited me very well as I have stayed at places where the innkeeper hovered constantly and seemed to want me to spend my vacation chatting with her. Breakfast was substantial and delicious - scrambled eggs with cheese, homemade bread and muffins, lots of fruit, oatmeal, cereals. George, the innkeeper, was very pleasant, and also full of helpful information about hiking and other activities. We enjoyed our stay very much, and plan to return in the summer.

Room Tip: Room 1 is on the first floor and has it's own entrance.

For those of you looking for 'charm', this is a good choice. The Lodge is an old house with character....nothing fancy, but very homey and comfortable. The location is right in Keene Valley, so very convenient for outdoor activities, or the few restaurants nearby. There is plenty of hot water and great water pressure, which, after a long day of hiking provided one of the best showers I can remember. They do have wireless internet, though the signal strength can be spotty. Breakfasts, again, are nothing too fancy, but a great combo of eggs, fresh muffins, fruit and cereals. The owners know the area inside and out, and are happy to help out with a recommendation for activities. They are big fans of Hopkins Mt., and after hiking it, I can see why!!

We are a group of guys from the UK and Canada that have been hiking together for the last 22 years. This is our first trip to the Adirondacks (and North America) and staying at the Keene Valley Lodge was fantastic! We rented the Beede Suite, Notman Suite, Room 2, and the Phelps Cottage. We used the Phelps cottage as our "hangout" to chill and prepare meals.

Lori and George were great hosts. They accommodated our last minute changes and provided excellent advice on things to see and trails to take. The rooms were great, breakfast hit the spot, and the location couldn't be more convenient to the trailsheads, grocery store, liquor store, Mountaineer shop, and restaurants.

Room Tip: Although close to the main road, everything was quiet in the evenings. The Notman and Beede Suites a...

My friend and I stayed for 3 nights here in the Beede Suite. 2 bedrooms with a bath and sitting area. We had our own entrance to the suite. Lori and George were our friendly and helpful hosts. Great fresh breakfast. Best eggs I can remember. The suite was very clean and comfortable, in the back of the property with a view of the backyard mountain range. High quality bedding, and full hot shower. We spent relaxing time in the main room chatting with other guests, and looking through the collection of Adirondack books. Excellent location, too, near trails , stores, restaurants in walking distance.

We needed to be in the area for a wedding, and decided to stay here. It couldn't have been more perfect, with a lovely location, and delicious breakfast. The B&B proprietors truly love what they do, and they're always there at breakfast to chat about the area and local trails. The Notman Suite has a full kitchen, and the most delightful rainbow colored bedspread you've ever seen.

We are two ICU nurses as well as student nurse practitioners who frequently stay at KVL (three times already in august). After long days of beeping monitors and sick adults and children we have a profound appreciation for the peace, quiet, and beauty offered at KVL. We have adopted KVL as a refuge for multiple reasons. The rooms and common space speak for themselves there is no need for the over the top decorations like dead animals and antlers you find at the pseudo-lodges of lake placid. This is a real adirondack lodge with the perfect intersection of comfort and minimalism. The beds are comfortable and the breeze and pine scent coming in the window cannot be beat or bought anywhere else. As for breakfast, I have to drag myself away. It offers something for anyone, espectially if you are planning a long day on the trail (we are very avid hikers who have traded backpacking for nights at the KVL). Lastly, we look forward to seeing the staff every morning, discussing hikes, but appreciate the laissez-faire approach of checking in and making yourself comfortable. Its especially nice when you deal with people all day every day. Its rare to find people so trusting with something so special. We really appreciate the peace of mind we find at KVL and it is just enough to return to the long days and beeping monitors. Thanks so much!!
