“Save yourself and stay somewhere else!”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

My mother, sister and I stayed here this past weekend as part of my 30th bday celebration and it was a HUGE let down. Unfortunately we didn't look at reviews beforehand and boy were we sorry. The hotel is COMPLETELY run-down. It was like a strange time warp. Nothing has been updated since the 70s and because of that items are breaking (e.g., terrible beds and sheets, leaking ceiling in gym, missing light bulbs, wood paneling, AC wall units.. list goes on and on).

We arrived late Saturday night, right in the middle of a Polka convention, 2 weddings and Bat Mitzvah. They put us in the room right above the bat mitzvah and it sounded as if we were on the dance floor. After trying to sleep on the cement slabs they call beds, we couldn't stand the noise anymore (@ 12:25am) and asked for a room change. They told us 2x that there was nothing they could do for us, then finally after the 3rd attempt (and going down to the front desk) they put us in the wedding suite in the "luxury tower". Whomever named it the luxury tower must be blind or on drugs, because it was just as rundown as the rest of the resort. The room they moved us into was a suite, but only had a king size bed, so I was forced to sleep on the couch. I should mention that this "luxury" room comes with a jacuzzi in the bedroom and 2 sofas, one was an old lazy boy couch (which seemed so out of place, we were thinking an employee must have donated it).

We got massages which were ok - not bad, but not great. The masseuse was very sweet, but there was NO staff so we started my appointment 30 minutes after it was scheduled (because she had to set everything up herself). The locker room was again, SUPER outdated. You need locks for the lockers, so you have to bring your stuff into the service room with you. The steam room is broken and the water pressure is terrible.

We did spend some time at the pool which was clean and quiet - again outdated. It was a little difficult to relax over the Polka music that was STILL going on.

Overall, this place was run down and creepy. It was like being at the shinning. They said the place was sold out, but I don't know where these people came from cause it was terrible and I would never go back or send my worst enemy. Go somewhere else.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with the details of your visit to our property. We apologize that your experience was not what you expected, and we regret if we failed to live up to our own standards of excellence during your stay.

The Hudson Valley Resort is a historic property. At one time, the Catskills region was a very popular vacation destination, and a great number of grand resorts were built to accommodate the millions of travelers who came each year to enjoy the peaceful natural setting and majestic mountain scenery.

But times have changed, and in recent years tourism to the region has declined significantly. We’ve watched the river of travelers which once flowed to the Catskills slow to a trickle, and many of the grand old resorts have been forced to shutter their doors.

We’re proud to carry on the great Catskill resort tradition, however, and we work hard to ensure that each of our guests has an exceptional experience. As one of the only Catskills resorts remaining in operation, we’re faced with the tremendous challenge of maintaining an enormous property built to accommodate many times more guests than the number of travelers we see today.

We still accommodate tens of thousands of visitors each year. The overwhelming majority of our guests truly enjoy their time with us, and we love having them return year after year. The observations made in your review are the exception to the rule, and we do apologize for your inconvenience.

I can assure you that our resort is continually maintained and improved. Do a few minor problems escape our careful eye from time to time? Undoubtedly. With more than 350 guestrooms and 40,000 square feet of public area, we encourage our guests to report any deficiencies they may encounter during their stay so that our maintenance team can quickly remedy the situation.

We work hard to constantly improve our property. It is regretful that you did not allow us the opportunity to address your concerns while you were staying with us, and that you have neglected to include your room number in your review. Without this information, it will be difficult for us to evaluate and rectify your concerns.

Again, we are a historic property carrying on a proud tradition of excellence as a locally owned and independent hotel. Our guests do not come here expecting the Marriott. They come for an exceptional experience in a beautiful natural setting where they can step back in time, and enjoy the simple things in life.

While your experience may not have met your personal expectations, we do hope that you will choose to return. We would welcome the opportunity to show you just how enjoyable a visit to the Hudson Valley Resort really can be.

I ended up at this hotel because it was the chosen hotel for wedding guests at a nearby wedding. I wish I would have read Tripadvisor before that and saved me a horrible night at a this broken down hotel. Perhaps it once had a heyday but it has been decades since then. There is no hiding the flaws. Even in the beginning -- when you walk in -- you will be greeted by big stains all over the couches in the lobby. Then you go upstairs and it gets even worse. The hallway is something out of a horror movie with marks all over the room doors (see pictures). Then you go in the room and there are stains galore. The air conditioning filter probably hasn't been changed in years - the quality of the air is horrible. It just felt dirty and uncomfortable. Once of the worst places I've been to in a while. Spare yourself!

Nice people, potential for a great resort, but completely rundown. Golf course was a goat pasture and the pool wasn't even open. I couldn't believe the standards of the rooms. Nothing has changed since 1975...sleep with one eye open. Don't let their website fool you.

We spent 8 day of Passover at the Hudson Valley Resort Hotel and Spa. It is an old hotel and the small of mildew hits you the moment you enter but after a day or so you get very uset to it.

The hotel has lots of facilites such as an outdoor and indoor poor and full spa. There is outdoor tennis and golf. we were there for a religouis conference and spent most of the time involved in eating and prayer

The rooms are sufficient. Clean but the decor is old. During our stay there was a roof leak into the main lobby but they fixed it almost immediatly. Someone had difficulty with the plumbin gin her room and they toiok a day but did fix the problem

My take on this hotel is that it is not a fancy new hotel but if you want to spent a week in beautiful country areas or you need a large hotel for a confention or get together this is a fine choice. We will defintilty consider going back again

This hotel is in a very pretty, secluded spot but is very run down. I spent a weekend there with a group of friends the last three years and each year it seems to be more disappointing. The rooms are barely adequate, (you may or may not have hot water, no microwave or coffemaker) the food is okay but not great, the staff is a mix of caring people, young, inexperienced people and a couple who don't give a darn if you need something. The most aggravating part of the experience was sharing the place with about 600 wild teenagers on a school trip. I tried to use the spa on Friday afternoon at about 1PM after I was told the person running it arrived at 11AM, only to find it dark and deserted. When my friend and I finally got someone there to open it she acted extremely annoyed that we couldn't figure out how to turn on the jets or the sauna and before we were in the hot tub 15 minutes about ten girls came in and rudely pushed their way in without even acknowledging our presence. There were leaks in the roof which had trash cans in the hallway to collect the drips and I am sure one of those places was leaking the year before also. The bathroom facility near the room where our group activity was set up was not functioning, as promised. I feel sorry for the workers at the hotel who do try to make things work but I will not be going back.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this valuable feedback. We are committed to helping each of our guests have an exceptional experience, and we sincerely apologize if we failed to live up to our own standard of excellence during your stay.

We take reports of guest dissatisfaction very seriously, and promptly investigate any circumstances which may have contributed to the unsatisfactory situation. Unfortunately, your report does not include many specific details which would help us in this process, such as your room number, the dates of your stay, and names of employees who may have failed in their duties. The last time we had a student group visit the resort was more than a month prior to this review being posted, so we’ll have to make some assumptions in addressing your concerns.

The description you've provided of our in-room amenities are somewhat misleading and we apologize if this misunderstanding is the result of our failure to effectively communicate your options. We are more than happy to provide guests with in-room coffee makers upon request and free of charge, and we assure you that had you only brought your concerns to management’s attention during your stay we would have welcomed the opportunity to extend you this courtesy.

It is rather perplexing that you suggest guests “may or may not have hot water”. We strongly encourage our guests to report any issues they may experience as they occur so the situation may be quickly addressed by our professional maintenance team, who are on site and happy to help 24 hours a day. If you have personally experienced any outages of hot water while visiting our resort, we deeply regret the inconvenience and are confident that the problem would have been rectified immediately.

We can certainly understand your frustration about sharing your time at the resort with a large group of high-school students. Your group’s event organizer would have been aware of this situation when negotiating her contract, and while we make every effort to contain group activities to separate areas of our facility, the spa is open to all guests of the hotel.

We strongly encourage our guests to be courteous and considerate of one another’s comfort, and the girls you encountered using the spa were being closely supervised by one of many school-appointed chaperons. If you found their behavior impolite, we apologize on their behalf and must stress that this situation could also have been mitigated by simply reporting the incident to management during your stay.

As you are no doubt aware, the entire northeast region was experiencing one of the worst winters on record during your stay, with average temperatures well below normal and total seasonal snowfall accumulations of more than 40 inches. Like many area facilities, our roof underlayment did sustain some damage under these extreme conditions.

As you observed, this damage resulted in minor ceiling leaks in one section of our conference wing and a damaged water pipe leading to the restroom located in that area. We can assure you that we took all appropriate steps to address the situation as quickly as the weather would allow, and we’re happy to report that the damaged section of roof and water pipe have since been fully repaired.

We do sincerely apologize that your most recent visit to the Hudson Valley Resort & Spa did not meet your personal expectations, and we’re very sorry to learn that you may choose not to return. We do hope you’ll reconsider, and give us an opportunity to help you make the most of your stay. We value the relationships we've built with our guests, and we look forward to each and every one of their visits.

As I arrived here to have a great Senior trip with my friends, I was disappointed. The lobby is the only place where it is nicely represented, although the room are dull. It is clean but the sheets had a odd odor. The towels at the room were dirty. The lamps and some of the furniture are damaged. The beds are extremely uncomfortable that leave back pains. The T.V's are outdated and "free wifi" is a complete lie. You have very little service here. The hallways look like The Shining. The first night the power went off for about five minutes. Next, the food is bad. It may look nice and representable but it is half cooked and it made you get bad stomach aches. The pools are not as clean and it is very small. Overall I did not like it here at all. I do not recommend it here at all. I paid $300 for two nights and I was expecting better. If you want to enjoy the "fun activities" it is best if you go somewhere else where it would be free and close by.

The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa is a great place to stay. The staff is super friendly and really want to help you have a pleasant time while you are their guest. We were treated to complimentary breakfast during our stay and it was delicious. It was made-to-order and well prepared. The room was clean and roomy. We were given plenty of towels and enjoyed a clean, spacious bathroom. We had a lot of fun snow tubing and swimming in the indoor pool. We plan on returning during the summer so that we can enjoy all the outdoor activities the hotel offers, such as golfing and swimming in a huge outdoor pool. Thank you Hudson Valley Resort for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: The higher floors have a great view of the mountains. Breath-taking!
