“Don't believe their website!”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

Last year we stayed at The Lake Motel but wanted a little upgrade. After finding Surfside website I thought this would be a little nicer. I called and asked what was their standard room like. The girl said "oh it's just a basic room, full size bed. Stand in shower, the regular!" Well we get there and my boyfriend couldn't fit in the too
Without ducking. It was beyond filthy and you couldn't even fit our luggage in the room. You had to like go sideways to go around the bed. So we asked if we could upgrade. THANK GOD then had another room available because we would not make it for 4 nights in that shoebox! So we upgraded to a 2 queen size bed room. It was still filthy and something from the 70s. Long story short, I wish we just stayed with The Lake Motel. It was clean and simple. The pictures of The Surfside looks nothing like it does in person.

We had a great time. Excellent location. You are walking distance to village and right on the lake. Nice beach and pool. Breakfast buffet was also great. Kids love it. Lake was very safe, kids can walk out and it wasn't deep at all. My only complaint is they told us we can get there early and use facilities. When we got there, staff and manager said no, we have to wait until we check in. That was very disappointing.

Last year we stayed at The Lake Motel but when we called to book, they had no vacancy. I decided to call The Surfside and requested the special at $99/night which was in the North Wing. I was told the only room they had available was in the Central Wing but they would give it to me at the same rate and also said the room was a bit bigger (it was actually smaller I was told). They did tell me it was on the 2nd floor but I hoped it wouldn't be so bad. Well, it was so I asked if they could move us to the ground floor. They said they would if one became available but I don't believe they even tried. Room was clean enough but we did have to call for towels which were not replaced. Besides this, we put water, milk and peaches in the fridge and they froze - I was told they took the dial off so people couldn't play with it. We did eat next door at Giovanna's and I would recommend that you check it out for your vacation. Lots of parking, staff seemed very friendly. Honestly felt like they forgot about us once we checked in. One night the vending machine wasn't working and they didn't even try to help me out with it, so I ended up walking in the rain down to the village to get what I needed. Would rather stay 2 nights at a higher price somewhere else than 4 at Surfside.

Room Tip: Parking is ridiculous. Try to move your car as little as possible or you lose your spot.

Surfside is defiinitely in a great location with lakefront property and a private beach. A clean outdoor pool was also well maintained with plenty of seating. We also had a nice balcony with a lakefront view.It is also a short walk to the village, which was definitely a plus. Now the bad...I read reviews about the parking but didn't quite take them seriously. Well, parking is atrocious, with spots so narrow, even the skinniest person will have difficulty getting out of their cars. They will only allow one car per room, but don't monitor when people NOT paying for rooms park in the lot. If they would enforce their own rule, they could widen the spaces and have plenty of room for paying guests. The room, although advertised as a suite, and quite expensive, was definitely not my definition of a suite. We arrived finding the security door leading to our second floor room broken with the lock totally missing. It was not fixed our entire stay. The carpet leading to our room was filthy, with a big black streak across the entire carpet. When we arrived in our room, there were crumbs all over the floor with cobwebs lining the ceilings. There was plenty of dust on all the woodwork. We did call the front desk, and got immediate action, with a thorough cleaning completed. I do have to give them kudos for that. We did stay here for our entire trip, but would not book again. The place needs, at the very least, a full spring (or maybe Fall) cleaning. Even though it was not the cleanest place, thank goodness there were no bedbugs.

We had a wonderful experience at the Surfside. The suite was roomy and clean, a couple of minor touch-ups were needed but nothing major. We had a great view of the lake and the pool was close by for the kids. The restaurant is in need of some updating but overall the food was good and the buffet had a lot to choose from. Poolside lunch and fruity frozen cocktails made for a good mommy experience!! We were very happy and the kids are looking forward to going back next year!

This was our first time at this hotel. It was nice. We had a poolside room with a patio. We could also see the Lake from our room. The beds were comfortable and the room was neat and clean. The hotel is a short walking distance to town.
Unfortunately, they advertised that their Cabana bar would be open for the 2013 season and it was not.

Just got back from The Surfside 2 days ago
.Surfside happens to be right on top of everything without being in the middle of it and very few steps to the lake itself.
We booked 5 days spur of the moment, sight unseen and at first look a bit disappointed.
However that all changed QUICKLY.
Lake George, though a little crowded has something for everyone light great resaurants., and more.
We live just off the beach on Long Island, so we went this way as the Montauk and the Hamptons
are unimpressive....just another beach, so.............
We spent a lot of our time on foot. This was the hottest week in years so the lake made up for it.
GREAT RATES and Service.

Room Tip: Book way ahead..and the closer to the lake the better
