The design of the hotel doesn't quite work. The balconies look onto each other, and there's an unfinished feel to the place (bare concrete etc). The restaurant is an after-thought with no atmosphere. Matters weren't helped by the manager soliciting a tip the evening before we checked out- and then booking us onto a bus when he'd promised us a private taxi!
That said, the rooms are OK and clean, and the driver and guide provided were good. Tukul's main competitor, Mountain View, has better "hardware" and looks like a top class hotel- but scrape the surface and the "software" is no better. Seven Olives has a great atmosphere and restaurant but the rooms are several cuts below.
So given Lalibela's options- and the fact that the town feels more touristy and pushy than anywhere else in Northern Ethiopia- Tukul Village may be the least bad alternative.More
