The Tukul Village is an excellent place to stay in Lalibela. After long days wandering around the churches a clean room and hot shower is very much required. The staff were pleasant and the hotel is located on the main street near restaurants and shops. The only criticism is the restaurant in the hotel, which was fine for breakfast but other meals were unimaginative. Certainly one of if not the best place to stay in town. Book in advance, the hotel was full when we stayed in August as they currently only have 10 rooms although they are building more.

The rooms here are great - Nice and big with big windows and a big balcony. We could just about see Bet Giorgyis on the hill opposite. The sheets were the wrong size for the bed though. We were shown the room with the doors already open, and it became evident that the reason for this may have been because the drains stank (sink, shower drains etc). Once the doors were closed the smell began to permeate through the room and since it gets chilly at night due to the altitude, we didn't want to open them.

Breakfast was included in our rate and it was pretty tasty. We had lunch one day, and dinner on another and that food was terrible. It's foreign food made by cooks who don't seem to taste it, so it tasted totally wrong, and I wouldn't recommend paying for food here.

We checked out hotels close by (Jerusalem, Roha) and Tukul had the best rooms, so I think I would recommend it for the accommodation, but not for the food.

we spent a few days at the Tukul village in February: the rooms are amazing (but get one on the second floor if you can, we had room 12 and it was great), spacious, clean and with excellent view and a small balcony. You can also have dinner at the hotel, the menu is fixed but adequate. The hotel is in the new part of Lalibela, which is currently under development. The hotel, like most of the new places, it is at some distance (15 minutes walk) from the churches, and there is no transport offered in town, so do not go there if you have trouble walking. The manager is incredibly helpful, ask him anything and he will sort it out for you!

Very much enjoyed our stay in Tukul Village. The rooms were very pleasant with balcony. The food was good (although only a set menu with a couple of options). But most importantly the staff were great. The waitress spend a long time teaching us Amharic over a couple of beers in the evening, one of the porters actually ran to help me when he saw me struggling with our bags, and the owner gave us a lift to the airport himeself when there was no taxi available. Like the rest of Ethiopia, we found the people (in this case the staff) the best attribute of the hotel. Also, the hotel is in a nice area and very clean.

We spent a couple nights at Christmas at this hotel, our 1st stop in Ethiopia. Having arrived from a connecting flight into Addis, with our bags not making the connection, the management in particular here were great. Very thoughtful to call ET airlines and track and store our bags while we went off on a 3 night trek into the hills, even when we weren't staying there on our return. The restaurant food, though more expensive than what could be gotten in cheaper hotels/restaurants nearby, was definitely very good. The hotel only has a few tukuls so a nice homey feel. The room itself was absolutely lovely - really can't find any faults with this hotel and lots to recommend. Also liked the location. Brought some school supplies and visited the school just across the street - very grateful for the help and very much in need. Do bring supplies or donations, but please don't give to the kids on the street - there's a charity set up specifically to help them, money boxes in many of the restaurants.

Probably the best experience we got in Ethiopia.
The hotel is owned by an Ethiopian-Dutch couple, who run the place with taste and high service standards.
Rooms are big, clean, with fantastic big windows overlooking the city of Lalibela.
Food is great, as is the service.
Highly recommended! Nothing more to add, if you want to go to Lalibela, this is the best price/quality ratio you get in Ethiopia!
