We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was certrainly not the best. The toilet leaked all over the bathroom floor from the pan which was very unpleasant. In fairness when we complained the manager sent 'the engineer' in to sort it out and it was mended. However the shower never worked properly and the bedside lamp was broken and never got fixed. The food was quite good which made up for it but they were mean at breakfast and told us we were allowed porridge or eggs but not both. We said we'd pay to have both and then they were okay, grudgingly. The manager seemed a nice man but very money grabbing

After having worked in Ethiopia for one month before coming to Lalibela, we had a pretty good idea of Ethiopian Hotels and only stayed at the Yemereha because our NGO paid for our stay. We talked the absolutely overprized (even for a touristy location like Lalibela) rooms down from 60 to 40 $ per night and still got disappointed by what they had to offer. The lamps in our rooms were broken and there is no TV at all. But that doesn’t really matter too much, as there is only electricity after 6 pm anyways. The restaurant severs mediocre food, the same which you would find at any 10 $ hotel around.
Then, after having eaten, they tried to rip us of; and even the hotel manager insisted for quite a while that there was a new government policy with increased taxes that we would have to pay. But, 120% taxes just seemed a little too much to us…
Bottom line, stay away from this place. If you want a really good stay, go to a place that is actually worth the money or stay at a hotel that offers equal service for much less.

One of the best options in town, particularly because of a very nice dining room with artist-designed pieces of furniture including tables, chairs, chests. Food is rather standard, however decent and safe. Also the rooms display interesting pieces of furniture, are spacious and well lighted. Bathrooms are rather essential, but there is hot water for a few hours daily. The "piazza", between dining room and hotel buildings is wide, very dusty, and quite depressing - a bit of gardening would make feelings much better...
