“Restaurant made up for the poor rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

We were unfortunate that we stayed around the time in which fasting had ended and so every night we were kept awake for the whole night by the mosque which was nearby, which probably didn't give us a fair overview of the place. The bathrooms were poor, with mold in the showers and they gave me a foot infection from standing in the shower. The bedrooms themselves were decent, and for Ethiopia they were clean, however the plugs for some reason were too small for our chargers, which I have never seen anywhere else and is very annoying. The view and the area was fantastic, in particular the restaurant stood out and we stayed almost every night in the restaurant of the hotel: the freshly made juice in particular was very nice. The outside seating area was also nice. It was not too expensive but at the same time compared to other hotels in the area was decently priced, it was in a very good location as it is walking distance to most of the main attractions (St.George's Church) and if not you can rent a car which is quick and easy with the hotel.

Room Tip: Good, but wear flip-flops in the shower and be prepared for a bit of a bad bathroom, but the restaur...

Over priced by Ethiopian standards but heard good things about this place. Room had leaky shower and sink. My friend had to scoop water out of floor because staff couldn't fix leak. The room had no towels. When we requested towels they gave us only one (two people in room). Restaurant is decent. Advise for touring area was pay around $300 for two people and they'd take care of everything. No advice given on group tours or anything else when we weren't interested in paying $300. Restaurant is decent, location is good, staff help and rooms are pretty bad. The churches in Lalibela are amazing, but the difficulties of traveling here and dealing with everyone who is an "official tour guide" makes me regret visiting Lalibela

We travelled to Lalibella as a group of 4 adults on a tour of Ethiopia. We had already booked at a price of $42 a night for each twin room.

We were picked up at the airport in a really nice A/C minivan and thought that we were in for a real treat - How wrong we were.

We were shown to our rooms which were dank and had a smell of damp, but we had travelled a long way and decided to stay.

On closer inspection the bathrooms were found to be very damp with old peices of shower curtain, covered in mould stuck to the wall of the shower to try and cover up the dreadful state of the wall beneath.

Our twin room consited of a queen sized bed and what can only be described as a small wooden, very uncomfortable box with a bit of bedding on it. It was so uncomfortable that we (two males) decided to share the large bed as neither of us wanted to attempt the 'single'.
Things then only got worse. The first time that we used the toilet the whole thing jammed and so would not flush properly; the only way to get it to work was to remove the cistern cover and dip you hand into the water and god only knows what else and fiddle with the filthy workings inside.

We had it good however!!! the other couple in our group (see the review below 'avoid avoid avoid') had a tiolet that would not flush at all and filled up with other peoples excerment. When this was reported to the manager he went to the room and said it would be sorted. When we got back from our dinner the bowl was still full to overfolwing and when we went to find the manger we saw him literally running away from us into the resturant and turning all the lights off.

The only 2 good things that I can say about this hotel is firstly its position in the centre of the town with great views and secondly the queen sized bed which was probably the most comfortable bed we had throughout our whole trip.

In short, if you do stay here make sure that you check the room first and make sure you are certain that everything is working correctly, and DO NOT pay $42 a night IT IS NOT WORTH MORE THAT $20!!!

Room Tip: Try a different hotel!!!!!!!!!

We stayed here for two nights and it was the worst hotel of our trip . The first night the toilet didn't work and was full to the brim with other peoples feaces. The bathroom walls were covered with mouldy dirty shower curtains. The food was awful the staff were terrible and when we tried approaching someone they run off and left us with no working toilet. The hotel was charging, 42usd which is ludicrous . There are much much better options to choose from the only positive aspect is it is centrally located!! Other than that it's needs a FULLl refurb! Also the guides are pushy and tried charging four of us 637USD for a two day trip. As I said in the title Avoid the place!!!!!

Tranquil setting in amongst trees, buses and birds. Beautiful view both day and night. Close to all amenities. Belay Ketsela, the hotel receptionist, was extremely helpful and had great connections on all sorts of tours and guides that were available. You can contact him for more information.

The hotel is situated quite centrally, ATMs and shops are just a few minutes away, the churches are 20min to walk. Rooms are acceptable (for Ethiopian standards) and even come with a hot shower (though it took us some time how it works out).
The installation in the bathroom is awful, sometimes there is no water. At $37 (excl. breakfast) I found the rooms overprized, even with free WiFi.
In the restaurant you could die of thirst or hunger, I've never experienced anything like this: 4 people behind the bar, but nobody will come out to serve you unless you go to the bar and order there. And even when they walk around, they give their best to ignore you. The food was good though.
