“Wonderful winter break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2013

Great hotel and good value for money (booked through Hotels 4U - owned by Thomas Cook, and flights direct with TC). It's all been said before but combination of top hotel, great location, good food locally, fantastic weather, no time zone change and bearable flight all add up to make this a great winter break - will be visiting again next year!!

Room Tip: Room 225 (Superior deluxe) (block 2, top floor, south side) was excellent ( we would ask for it again...

As expected from the earlier reviews this hotel would rate as a three star in Europe. However from speaking to tourists in other nearby hotels it would appear to be similar/better than others available for the same price. The grounds are beautiful, full of wild life and very well maintained and the staff are excellent. We were in a standard room with garden view and it was adequate although worn and at one point the bathroom wall switch fell out of its fitting exposing the wires next to the sink, it was fixed immediately. Unless you are visiting for total relaxation, you will; need to do some of the trips out into the 'Real Gambia'. We went with Arch Tours, booked when we got there as we wanted our money to go locally and not to Thomas Cook. We also ate out as often as possible for the same reason. There is nothing to do in the evening other than walk up 'the Strip' which was an eye opener for me .I wasn t exactly expecting the Las Vegas Strip but this a literally a rough road sided by restaurants, bars etc. in various states of disrepair. However, as I kept reminding myself...this is Gambia, and it's hot in February and only 5 and a half hours from the UK with no time difference. I wouldn t recommend for families as there is precious little to do for children. Breakfast excellent with lots of choice hot and cold.

Room Tip: pay a bit more and upgrade to a suite

Looking for something original to add to the many favourable reviews. A massive plus has to be the hotel's prime position in Kololi. Great for restaurants. We reckon you could easily eat out in a different place every night on a 14 day holiday. Hotel is well maintained and has fantastic staff. Gambia Experience (excellent operator) put their customers in upgraded rooms (deluxe minimum). Hotel staff know the score, and it's fair to say they have a hard life. Always smiling and helpful. Whilst staying, there was a huge event at the hotel next door - Senegambia -which the management kindly warned us about, apologising for the noise in advance. Only downside is the beach, which is a real disappointment but no fault of the hotel's. Not much reference to the erosion problems and rather unsightly attempts to stop it in the brochure. Otherwise, a fantastic holiday & we will returm, despite the appalling cattle truck conditions on TC airlines - it's a disgrace!

Room Tip: We got a Superior deluxe, which was a corner suite - excellent. We'd suggest the southern end. 1...

This was my fourth time at this hotel but had not been back for 7 years until this year but everything was just as good as I remembered it and felt right at home as soon as I got there, The gardens are still immaculate, The room was very clean and tidy, but I now think the rooms could do with a bit of a face lift but still clean, The restaurant Bodega Casa Fernando was so much better than last time, the food was very good and the staff were lovely and the entertainment was great, Its a real shame that it was never very busy because it is really nice and I am very fussy when it comes to eating, The pool was very clean and the pool boys were great many thanks to Andy who was lovely he would always make sure the towels were there for you and were clean, I did have my Wimbledon towel go missing but my fault as I left it on the sunbed !!!!!!!!! so don't let that put you off, The only negative thing I have to say was the reception staff were not very friendly and not very helpful when I lost my towel, but apart from that a great hotel and a lovely holiday

Room Tip: go for sea view its lovely to watch the waves rolling in

We stayed at the Kairaba 4th - 11th Feb. The staff can't do enough for you. The Hotel is smart (African standard) and very clean. You can have the ice as they use sterilized water. They use gloves for food prep., we were worried about getting bad stomach but the only thing i got was a bit of sun stroke! Weather was beautiful and the Gambian people are so friendly - we were 6 girls on our own so sometimes a little over friendly but never felt threatened. If you have never been to Gambia - you must and stay at this hotel.

I staid here with business trip, and it was very good. Hotel locate near senegambia street, and a lot if restotaunts are near. Staff is very friendly and cultural. Monkeys walks on the territory of hotel. Good beach and swimming pool, no nouse and very tasty breakfast. Excellent hotel, recommedate it for all.

Have just returned from this hotel. Only had a standard room which after reading various reviews was slightly concerned about. It was absolutely fine was not overlooking the carpark and was lucky enough to have a nice garden view. The room was kept very clean, towels whenever we wanted them plus extra coffee as requested

We booked bed and breakfast which was great as there are many restaurants to choose from to eat. Two I can recommend are Escala and Kora which are almost opposite one another. The staff are all extremely friendly and have been trained well. The drinks are expensive but they have four happy hour sessions which most people make use of.

We did trips booking through a company called Arch tours next to Escala where I found them very helpful not at all pushy. The trips were well run and much cheaper than Thomas Cooks own tours.

It did get chilly in the evenings and I would recommend taking some cardigans or jumpers.

Anyone going here will have a good time.

Room Tip: All ground floor rooms have a garden
