Desert Rose Kenya
Reviewed 13 May 2014

This review is long overdue as visited way back in 2010. It was a familiarization tour for me being the reservationist for Desert Rose Lodge. Departed Wilson Airport ex Alexis Peltier charter. The general experience was far beyond my expectation. Indeed one gets to see wonders of creation.

It was a 3 days trip and got to fly over Lake Logipi, the lowest point in the Rift Valley, South End of Lake Turkana, Suguta valley, sand dunes, volcanoes, lava flows, Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, the spectacular volcanoes of Suswa and Longonot.

Visited both the Samburu and Turkana communities. Had breakfast by the riverside, lunch at a fantastic sand lugga with lovely acacias trees, sundowner up the mountain, candle lit dinner at the dining deck. The means are just fingerlicking.

Loved it greatly. The experience is just undescribable.

A beautifully hand crafted lodge in an amazing location. Chef Maina is a creative genuis, food was delicious. The rooms have magnificent views, with hand made authentic furniture. The hikes in the surrounding hills have stunning scenery. Just needs a few tweaks in housekeeping, lighting in some rooms, better communication with the outside world to make this the "NIRVANA" of Kenya
Thank you Emma & Alexis for everything. Cuddles to Wapi the cleverest dog.

Room Tip: Jumba ya bao (the wooden house) overlooking the river

If you dream about "remote destination" or n need of "reset", i don't know better place in the world. 5 star lodge, excellent food, great great great views, hidden in northern kenya, in the middle od nowhere. Not easy to get in (unless helicopter or a private plane) but worth every effort, especially thet the road from maralat is great itself. Only five cottages, so you are almost alone.

I would definitely recommend anyone who loves a beautiful enviroment to go to this lovingly built lodge, the photos that are posted on the website do not do justice to the strikingly porpotioned buildings. There is nothing to compare to sitting up in bed and looking out at the clouds sitting on the mountains out of the paneless window-except perhaps the picnic we had beside the paradisical rock pool fed by a natural water shute.
As one would excepect ' the owner and daughter of this magical place are very special people and it was a privelege to spend time in their company. A spirtual experience, as well as an interesting insight as to how the local people live.
